Great video David. I did the same test,, only difference is my sim shots are inside a steel building. With that I have my outdoors set at proper elevation for my area(700). And to match the outside numbers I bumped up the elevations to (6500). My next step is to use the net outside to see if it’s the building causing the number jump. Keep up the good work.

Really appreciate your dedication to the R10 and the garmin and awesome golf apps specifically. You've helped me tremendously and really inspired me to build my own garage makeshift sim, all these questions come up and having someone answering them around the same time I'm asking these questions is immensely helpful, I'm in Cape Town otherside of the globe but you definitely helped me alot, you are definitely the best relative to others on this exact subject at the present. Keep doing the golf gods work m8 it isn't going unnoticed globally. I was getting shorter numbers on garmin app just like you and then flattering numbers on awesome golf so this was helpful, making use of e6 or GSpro can be fitted to match the awesome golf as a baseline as you've eluded to in original videos I will do this accordingly. I will also share my setup with you if you have a way for me to do so. Appreciate you keep it up maybe try doing one with gspro not only e6

You hit a few balls slightly chunky and the R10 did a good job on grass, however I just had a reality check after practicing off of a mat into a net for a while and then taking my swing out to a muddy, soft course. There, I was hitting behind the ball badly, but instead of the forgiving mat experience I was taking chunky divots that ruined my distance. So the fact that the R10 + Awesome Golf can do a good job in real life doesn't mean that it will do a good job on a mat, predicting what would happen in real life, because the characteristics of the mat are much different than the characteristics of soft, muddy turf. Lesson learned, I need to focus more on making contact with the ball first, especially after a wet period when the ground is soft. That, unfortunately, will throw off my calibrated distances, too. I'm finding it quite a challenge to figure out what my actual distances are (a) when playing Garmin Home Tee Hero, or (b) when playing Awesome Golf from a mat, or (c) in real life, but on all sorts of lies and turf conditions that I cannot simulate or practice from the mat at home.

I really appreciate your videos. I'm just learning how to shape my ball flights and this is my primary concern. I've had the r10 for a few weeks and i see improvement but I haven't been on the range to try it yet. I was hopeful that the r10 and AG was accurate enough, I don't expect perfection. Thanks!

Indeed this is the video we were waiting for. Now I am convinced and will spend the money on the Awesome Golf app - just to make sure that not only the distrances are accurate, but also the flight path. I will cancel my Garmin subscription - it was up fro renewal in October . Did you make any adjustments to the settings of Awesome golf, or are you using everything with default settings? Keep up the great reviews of the R10 - really appreciate your honest opinion and the effort you put into these videos.

Thanks for the great video. Very reassuring that the AGS is spot on. I think my mat gives me perfect footing, so I feel more solid/grounded and therefore hit it further. Also, as you showed, we often just let it rip hitting into a net. So I wonder why the Garmin app is shorter than AGS into a net?

Thanks so much for all your work in bringing us content on the R10 use with Awesome Golf, as well as the comparison to the Garmin Golf app. I was so impressed with Awesome Golf as a training tool, that I sprung for the Lifetime Membership. I am curious as to how you got the ball flight tracking on the video while on the course. Is this a feature that comes with either the R10 or Garmin app? I have not taken my R10 out to the course or driving range yet and was just curious.

Thanks mate, I use a software called shot tracer on my Mac computer and that adds the tracer line over the video 😊

Great video and shows that Awesome Golf is currently better for shot path in particular. This has certainly been my experience on the range with the r10. Any chance of doing the same with e6? I'm yet to buy an ipad and use e6 so would be interested. Cheers

Super video I always wonder about the numbers/flight path i get with my R10. Have you done any videos regarding spin numbers on the driver ? I find them quite high , maybe just me but I cannot get them below 2800/3000

The Garmin, and any radar device, has much more accuracy when hit outdoors. It’s getting probably 2 or 3x the data for its algorithms. What you need to do is compare your indoor distances measured by the Garman with your actual outdoor distances hit with a rangefinder. Also, you need to be focusing on the much longer clubs, as that’s where a smaller radar device like the Garmin can show its limitations.

I’ve actually had great performance indoors with the Garmin on all number with all clubs. Check out the previous video where I used it to match Micah Morris stock yardages 😊 The reason for the difference in distance I figured out after watching it back was the spin rates. So off the grass on course I was generating more spin which makes sense - hence the shorter distances. In the simulator off the mat I was getting longer distances because I wasn’t generating the same amount of spin and therefore getting longer distances

@@davidmaxfieldgolf understood, except for you are not getting real spin rates indoors. The Garman automatically switches between indoor and outdoor modes. But indoors the spin rate is heavily using an algorithm. What I was getting at is what is more accurate, the Garmin app verse awesome golf, indoor distances versus real outdoor distances. Because when the Garmin is set up outside you are totally changing the numbers it’s able to produce.

@@chrisjames7489 when I did the test with the Garmin app I didn’t adjust or change any of the numbers with the elevation, just used the local conditions to my locations. Is that what you mean? For me, outside of the distances awesome golf was a lot more accurate because it nailed every shot shape except 1 and I find the same indoors so I can personally trust the shape a lot more. I hear what you’re saying about indoor vs outdoors but for me at least I find the indoor performance pretty spot on with the use of awesome golf 😊

Awesome golf is just software, all the data is coming from the R10, so why is flight path so different, is it just the algorithm's or is there something else making the difference? I love your videos, I have purchased the R10 and in the process of setting up a hitting net on my roof terrace ( Spain) many thanks for all the information you share with us all.

The same data comes from the R10 to all apps but the algorithms of how those apps interpret the data is different hence why there’s different numbers 😊

I think it’s definitely good enough to a certain level. If you’re coaching pros or plus handicaps then maybe the next step up to like a GC3 would be good but this will definitely help

Hi David. Thanks for the great videos. After watching this video and the video with the Garmin app it appears that both apps are accurate with the distance on the course. However there is still about a 10-15 yard difference when comparing these to apps in the sim. If they are both accurate on course what would be causing such a difference in the sim?

Thanks for the video. Really interesting. It would be great to see a summary of the differences between indoor and outdoor hitting. Could the outdoor tracking be more accurate due to being able to track more of the flight? Seems indoor numbers higher than outdoor but maybe wind playing a factor in that difference. I think I’ve figured out why and I think they’re both accurate. See when I watched it back I noticed that on course I was generating more spin with the irons because I was hitting straight off the grass. Whereas in the simulator I was generating less spin hitting off the mat which in both cases effects the numbers and distances. So I’m essence they’re both accurate

@@davidmaxfieldgolf interesting, I'm by no means a good golfer at all, but when I'm inside my spin is way higher than outside. I'm using stealth irons though that tend to lower the spin and I know that R10 reads spin outside as ball flies far enough but not inside. I've found as I've gotten more consistent it's been pretty accurate in and out though.

Interesting. How can both be accurate?Maybe one last test needed where you do both apps in the same video from the same distances, marking the balls so you know how far each one was on the apps, and then ping your range finder back from each ball to the hitting spot. :)

I was thinking the same thing lol 😂 but I didn’t want to do it again 🤦‍♂️ guess I’ll have to lol 😂 My guess though after watching back over the video though is that in the simulator I’m hitting off the mat rather than grass. I noticed a spin increase on course which would promote a touch shorter distance. So ironically the numbers for awesome golf were correct both in the simulator and on course but just different elements effected the numbers

I’ve found both apps to be good tools, but haven’t committed and stumped up for awesome golf yet. It’s a large investment and I’m not sure my game will improve any more using it over say Garmin/HTH.

@@davidmaxfieldgolf really enjoying your videos mate and thanks to you I have purchased the Awesome Golf software and agree it is great. I just have a question relating to E6. I was initially using the R10 with an android phone and it worked fine but there were two negatives. Well three if you count the small screen lol but the main two were 1. It chewed up the battery on the phone and it was either dead or close after each session and 2. No E6. So I bit the bullet and bought an iPad this week. So far so good. I don't have a home setup I use this at the range and really enjoy the playing simulator as well as the range. Like you I tether my iPad to my android phone for sessions at the range. This has worked fine for Garmin Golf and Awesome golf but on E6 the little green circle in the middle of the screen turns red and says Error check device is connected. Very frustrating as it has worked fine with both other apps. Disappointing as I was really looking forward to playing the five free courses that come free on E6 with the R10. Sorry for the long post mate but have you had any issues tethering to your phone at the range with E6?

@@boojiboy2275 yeah you’ll have to close the app then re open it again. It’s an e6 bug that happens. Once you do that it should fix the problem
