The parasocial relationships people have with celebs/influencers makes them forget they're not actually close with these celebs. It reminds me of that time when these 2 teenage girls were roasting Tom Holland, thinking it's just a playful banter (and because they always see Tom holland friends and co-stars roasting him), But those fans don't realize it just looks awkward because they're not close with tom holland. It doesn't work, it's just cringey. You don't know them personally, and they don't know you.

@@einfachnurleo7099 I don't think you can judge whether the action is ok or not if you're not the person whose picture is taken of. Regardless of intentions, someone shouldn't take a picture of another without their knowledge and consent. And it's a whole other ballpark when that picture is posted or shown for others to see. It's a total invasion of privacy and it can make that person feel scared or uncomfortable. Whether that person is ok with it once they find out, they shouldn't have done it in the first place. There's time to think things through when someone whips out their phone to take a picture but if they can't even do that, they should at least realize that what they did was wrong once the excitement dies down and delete all traces of the picture's existence. These are real humans we're talking about, not sightings of the legendary Yeti.

I've recently gotten into a position where I get to meet a lot of people I admire and this little trick has almost always worked. Go up to them and say: "Hi, my name is [blank] and I'm a fan of yours. Is it okay if I talk to you a bit?" If they say yes, cool. If not, ask this: "Would there be any better time for you talk?" If yes, follow up on it. If they say no, they're not comfortable with fan interaction, so leave them alone. That being said, most "celebs" are fairly used to being in the spotlight and understand that fan interactions are part of the job, so if you're just straight with them and tell them you want to take this chance to have a convo with them, they're cool with it way more often than not.

I have admittedly been cringe at cons before. I remember I saw two girls in really cool cosplays at AX once and asked to take a picture. Fate decided that my phone would die RIGHT before I could, so I explained it, we had a small chat and complimented each other's costumes, and I said I'd try to find them again once my phone was charged. Lo and behold, I DID find them, and got the picture. I then asked if I could like, join them or hang out or something, and was declined. Luckily, I was smart enough to just leave it at that and wish them a good rest of the convention, but I still get embarrassed and cringe at myself when I remember it.

My friend and I go to conventions all the time and sometimes we meet up with other friends but normally it's just us two. We like making new friends but people like to latch on to us for some reason and we can't shake them off. One time both of us cosplayed Rin and Len from Vocaloid and this one girl loved my friend's Len cosplay so much she would not let go of her. We walked around the con for 20 minutes while she was had both her arms wrapped around my friend. It was cute at first since she seems like she was a young teen but I could see my friend getting tired of it so I had to make an excuse for us to leave. Somebody needs to teach these people how to soicalzile. Like I get it, we can be awkward too but we never overstep boundaries.

Idk, I would probably want to say hi, but I definitely fall into the camp of "I don't want to disturb their personal time/space" camp. It would be different if it were at a con, or a fan meet up, etc. But most of the time I think it's better to respect that people who work in an entertainment industry related job should be able to "clock out" just like anyone else. I know there are definitely times where people wouldn't mind a fan stopping them to say hi. But I think it probably feels lot like it does for women when they get hit on by a random guy, or getting cat called, it's kind of rude to assume that that kind of attention is automatically welcomed. If it were me, I think that content creators often already share so much of themselves and their personal lives with everyone, it probably is nice to be able to have time that isn't for someone else. If I haven't been offered someone else's time or attention, I just don't think it's right to feel entitled to it.

So I’m just going to be a big sister here to all young anime fans in their teens and tweens who plans on visiting their first anime con. I hope this will serve as a helpful advice for the lot of you. Anime cons (well pre-Covid and now even with Covid restrictions being lifted) can be overwhelming. It’s fun and exciting as you get to meet your favourite cosplayers or youtubers etc, but this exposes you to a lot of dangers as well. The last time I went to an anime con in my country before Covid, the convention was filled to the brim. There were far too many people in one space alone which resulted to me getting separated from my friend that day whilst walking through the crowd. If you’re planning on cosplaying your favourite character that has a revealing outfit, ensure that you’re with a buddy that you know and is comfortable with at all times. Avoid crowded places as this will expose you to molestation and the suspect can go unnoticed in the crowd. Avoid secluded places as well when you’re alone as this will expose you to potential stalkers and creeps. Now with anime becoming very popular across all ages and around the world, it means that there’s an increase in predators as well. So my other advice is that, if you’re planning on going to an anime convention with an online friend, ensure that you have someone you know to accompany you as well. You’ll never know if that online friend of yours would turn out to be a stalker or a serial killer in hiding. This is my advice for all of you because I never got the same advice during my first time visiting an anime con. Nothing scary or terrifying happened, however, I found it overwhelming as there were just too many people crowding the convention, it made me worry for my safety every now and then. But that’s not to say that it is not fun. If you’re with the right people, there’s nothing to be afraid about ^^ So if you’re planning to go to an anime con soon, I wish you all the fun but remember to take heed to my advice, okay?

The 5 stories one up made more sense to me. Because maybe the person was like omgsh its them!! But then thought it would be weird if they literally ran up those 5 stories just to chase them down, and the opportunity couldn't be missed so they just took a photo of them from far away to at least get some memory from it. Still creepy, but kinda understandable.

I don't really get why people idolise youtubers or even. People get hype about seeing celebrities they don't even like/care about . If I met someone who I genuinely admired for their talent, that may make my day a bit better but its not that serious.

I'm curious what the etiquette is regarding seeing idols in person, like you're a fan of their content but want to respect their private space... it's just unspoken rulings.
