On the social justice/activism question, I think that the issue is that footballers are celebrities, rightfully, for their football prowess, and don’t necessarily have much of an education or insight into political issues. Not to say they can’t put their personal opinion out there, but are liable to be taken to task by Joe Public who may well know far more about the issues they are holding forth on.
