I've always felt that the guitar solo in this song is more emotional than the lyrics. I cannot say why, but somehow Gary managed to put the same feelings in his playing as in the words.

If you think about it, the feelings can be expressed in many different ways. When you are emotional, and you want to share it, your choice of words will be affected. For a musician going ad-lib, it is the same principle. But instead of using words, he uses notes, intervals, strum patterns, arpeggi. He is doing the same, telling his audience his particular feelings of the moment through harmony and melody. Unfortunately, if you are not a musician, or if you are, you need to have reached a certain level, where the instrument and you are one, and becomes an extension of your brain. You don't think about it, it comes out of you as a second nature. Just like words. When we speak, we don't need to always think about what we want to say. Sometimes we do look for specific words, but most of the time, the words flow is seamless. For Gary Moore and virtuosi Musicians, the same can be said about their music.

@gloreano3 жыл бұрын
At one point during this performance one of the strings on Gary's guitar goes out of tune and Gary retunes it without skipping a beat. The man was a pro. Gary was so soulful and skilled as a guitar player and could sing his heart out. He took the mid to late 1960s Bluesbreakers style of blues playing and brought it into the future with his hard style of Blues that sounded modern but still with the soul of classic Blues. Gary is in my book one of the greatest Blues guitarists and Blues vocalists of all time. He died far too young and too soon. RIP Gary.

As a guitarist the ultimate quest for me personally is to be able to express myself like this ! The perfect bends , the vibrato , the tone , in the pocket timing , THE FEEL. To be in complete and utter control of the instrument at all times and being able to play whatever you want , those bends are NOT easy to hit right , takes a lot of time patience and control. What a player man holy smokes !! I can listen to this man play all day long !

I'm a mere 35 years in, studio sound engineer and still a student.... yes, this man was an absolute master of the art..... I can mimick, but not recreate. Can I play the solo? Yes. Does it feel right? No. Only Gary does Gary. My first ever live gig was Gary Moore, After The War, I THINK it was 1986, but everything online says 1987... Anyway, no turning back after that.... Then he went Blues and..... well, that was the rest of my life... I love other bands but Gary is basically the reason I play guitar and mess about with sound engineering... He may be gone, but as far as I am concerned - 2 seconds of a solo and I am back in 1996.....
