the reason cloud streaming is so inconsistent is that there is so many variables. The device you use, the operating software on that device, app or browser, internet speed, location to server, wifi or cellular. But ultimately Dustin is right, it's not viable until it's consistent, and its currently the opposite of that right now

The thing about "sitting on Banjo" is that is a decision that is made by Rare. Phil Spencer's current philosophy running his studios is to give the studios creative freedom and ownership over their IP. Greg Mayles is the reason there isn't a new Banjo. This has been publicly declared. He doesn't want to work on Banjo right now and doesn't want to loan out the IP. But I'm fairly certain that once Toys for Bob get given that same creative freedom that they will be happy to continue working on IP that they clearly care about like Crash and Spyro.

Great episode I wish it was much longer, but I understand you guys are very busy as it is. I just wanted to say that Dustin put into words what I was thinking. And it's that when Sacred Symbols talked about the acquisition they were mostly talking about the big picture of how this might affect the gaming industry. While Matty and Cog were were mostly looking at the small picture and how this is better for Activision-Blizzard IPs. That's why SS sounded negative while on DD it sounded positive. Explains why I agreed with both of them even though they seemed to have different views on it. I personally I'm more than happy with it. We most likely will get many games that weren't going to be made by Activision-Blizzard. Plus Xbox and PC players will get a bigger gamepass library. As well as incentive Playstation to make first party shooters again. But we won't truly see the effects of this acquisition in atleast 5 years.
@TavishHill2 жыл бұрын
I don’t feel as if Colin is engaging in good faith with points that undermine his central thesis wrt the ABK deal. His comments are almost entirely strawman arguments that avoid the real counterpoints made to his position. Nobody that I have seen has suggested ‘every single team working on CoD would be taken off of the IP and the IP shelved’. What many are hoping for is new IP from these teams (like the one we *literally* just saw announced from Blizzard days after the deal was announced). Or looking to make games utilizing those ABK IP’s that are dormant, which Phil said he wants to see done so you can bet that will happen. We also are hearing that CoD will indeed be taking a year off for the next iteration in the chain (2024 likely won’t have a CoD game, for instance). Simply pretending ppl are out there expecting CoD to be sidelines just to fabricate a counter argument is not constructive and isn’t based in reality. Someone else also brought up the argument that we can't trust MS to maintain ABK IP since they don't keep making BK games or whatnot...but the reason they aren't making BK games is *because* MS gives their teams the freedom to pick their own projects, unlike ABK. Rare isn't making BK because they wanted to make SoT, their dream game. The last thing you should want is for Phil to force these teams to make games for IP that they just don't want to build anymore. That just gets them back in the same situation they were in beforehand.

this is how the standard podcast SHOULD be. none of that splitting the shows up by console, feeding into the console war. it unifies your viewership & fanbase instead of separating them into two different sides of a console war. you guys could even throw a little nintendo & pc talk in there if the situation warrants it. as you can see from the comments, EVERYONE here seems to like this better than splitting things up. instead of splitting the shows up by console manufacturer, just do more shows more often, to make up for the missed views that you would've had from doing multiple shows, like kinda funny does. unfortunately i got blocked from my main account for saying this smh

Yeah the timed exclusivity issue is touchy. People said they did not want Microsoft buying publishers but would it have been any better to buy timed exclusives of all the games? Truly, the crossover event we need at the start of this year. And honestly? The beauty of the game industry right now is that we get to have these conversation; that competition between the big game companies is keeping things fresh and interesting. Xbox One was a dire generation, saved only towards the end by Xbox One X and the backwards compatible program. Now, the Series consoles + Game Pass, alongside PS5 with its upcoming heavy hitters, Nintendo's bold visions for its long-standing franchises, and PC gaming's large and complex offerings is making this generation of gaming the most engaging, for sure.
@MrLocke-bk3om2 жыл бұрын
Amazing episode. Please do this more often. One major positive of this acquisition is increased competition. As odd as it sounds, the consolidation of studios is actually driving increased competition and I believe that we’re going to see higher quality games from both Microsoft and Sony because this is NOT business as usual. They are both competing for their lives, and consumers will ultimately benefit.
@gamerbychoice40242 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Even with the slight consolidation in the industry now there are still enough major players where everyone eats well. When he talks about comparisons to TV style subscription services it makes no sense, those services are better for consumers and the quality of the content we watch is miles ahead of cable TV, we don't even get commercials anymore, and advertisers dictating that every sitcom needs 3 guys and 3 girls in two apartments.

I like the music industry comparison. The good thing about that band that would get a million dollar deal before and flopped the million was wasted. Now if you suck you don't get a deal because you friend knows someone at a music studio. It brings out the music the people want instead of the trash some sweaty studio executive wants.

I really love this panel and level-headed discussion (so tired of other scripted podcasts out there). My beef with Microsoft is that despite the fact they're now serious with gaming I hate the fact that it feels like they're cheating or at least what they've been doing is not earned. It's so easy to buy multiple studios and claim their IPs as yours and now there you go you got plenty of exclusives, I wish Microsoft took the time over the years to nurture original IPs just like Sony did. I won't be seeing Stars Citizen as an "Xbox" game...no I want to see something M has built from the ground up to bolster their core identity as a player in this industry.
@alexlyster34592 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I think they are taking that time to nurture IP. But if you look at say Ghost of Tsushima, HZD, those games took like 6 years. MS started making their acquisitions and studio expansions in 2018, so basically 4 years ago. Essentially we should start seeing the fruits of their labour starting next year/2024. Somy had their house in order first, but I think it's clear MS are hopefully on the right track

Monopolies are the logical progression of a late-stage capitalist system. It is worrying, don't get me wrong, but I don't understand the Microsoft bashing from some players (not this show), especially since Activision-Blizzard were actively looking to be bought.
