Is this serious? Plenty of those who make youtube videos on hair have full head's of hair. But even if it was, that shouldn't make much of a difference for something so reliant on genetics. It would be like Shaq making a video on how to be tall and you praising his advice because - since he is tall his tips must work?

Hi many thanks. I have struggled with lesions and sore scalp all my life. I’ve concluded that too much sugar in my diet is the main cause, alongside dairy and wheat. Getting type 2 diabetes was a blessing as it made me do a whole system rethink of all aspects of my life. Learning how to wash my hair correctly has been a revelation and I hope will strengthen it again in the longer term. Since taking processed sugars out of my life my sore scalp has stopped, with the wash regime helping as well. All the best Al

You actually said what I have been thinking for the last 3 years. I had short layered hair for close to 50 years ( I am 63) shirt layered hair needs the be washed every day or it looks like crap. I'd roll my eyes Everytime someone said oh you can't wash your hair everyday, yes can't, people would actually say that including hairdressers, I paid no mind. 2020 due to lock down I now am a long haired girl I started washing less frequently out of pure laziness it's much harder to wash dry and style long hair every day. It was around September of 2021 I noticed hair loss I wasn't shedding just not growing, I started chalking it up to age but yet that nagging feeling that it was dues to not washing but twice a week, started reading up and thought..hmm I think I'm going to try to wash more often. I think I'm going to start the daily wash again and see how it goes,I know this much , even though people constantly say " you can't do that" I can 🤷‍♀️

Hi, I find your videos very helpful because they are straight to the point, although I had a few questions about this one. What would you define as a scalp condition? 1. I live in the UK, and in the winter (due to the cold and dry weather) I suffer from dry scalp flakes. Wouldn't shampooing every 24/48 hours and twice make the environment on my scalp even drier? 2. Since I have started researching on how to make my hair healthier, I have learnt that most of our hair is shed in the shower due to it being wet. Surely shampooing twice will pull out more hairs because you are making contact with your wet hair more often, making it more susceptible to shedding? 3. Why do you apply conditioner to the scalp? I have been told this entire time to only apply it to the mids and ends of the hair, so as to not clog the hair follicles with conditioner. I don't mean to offend you with any of these enquiries or to question your ability to advise people on their hair, I am simply curious as I am being told contradictory information and so I want to find out for sure which one is right. Thank you.

As a person who work for a dermatologist as a chemist and write his prescriptions sometimes Using Shampoo 3 days in a week alternate days is enough you don't need anymore than that you can even use twice a week Secondly you don't need to use shampoo twice while washing your hairs & also conditioner is not must
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

You are correct, conditioners are not "a must"… However, this conditioner is a scalp conditioner, which does bring down inflammation after using something that is drying the scalp. And I understand you may work in a dermatologist office and are a chemist, but nearly every client that I've ever seen has been to a dermatologist first trying to resolve their hair loss issue...so clearly if they're still looking for a solution, dermatology as an industry has not solved the problem.

Washing your hair multiple times a week does wonder for the scalp. It's all about the quality of the products too. If you're worried about your hair drying out, I'd recommend a full shampoo/condition treatment once a week along with a scalp only only wash. Apply shampoo with perm/dye brush only to your scalp, by parting and applying product. Let it sit for for 5 mins then rinse apply conditioner to hair only rinse then thoroughly dry. Never leave your scalp wet.... fungus love wet scalp.

Hello, can I add my lavender essential oil to your shampoo? Or is it not recommended? You also talk a lot about proper microbiom on scalp but applying serum right after cleansing hair isn't distrupting proper development of scalp environment? I mean anything applied externally which is oily won't put ur scalp in natural state if u see my point. I can understand this may be beneficial for those suffering with problems but what if I already made my scalp healthy and I see hair regrowth?

I use a very mild, safe and sensitive shampoo, which I use typically 2x day (Am and Pm). Having great success with your products, but I prefer to wash inthe Am because the folligrowth is oily and i cant really style the way I like. Of course, I wash in the evening as well so the topical can absorb. I use a more thorough shampoo once a week, and condition typically one to two times per week.

Thanks for a great tutorial. Do you have any advice on whether to wash your hair with cold or warm water. I've read cold water helps 'seal in' any topical application, and helps maintain natural hair oils. But I have also read cold water discourages blood flow to the hair - which seems in contradiction to some topical applications which aim to encourage blood flow to the hair (among other things). Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would like to know the distinction between straight hair vs. curly hair (afro) as it's been often said that additional precautions are needed for the latter type of hair.
@Exonarium
@Exonarium 6 ай бұрын
I did some research over a year ago (not afro but looong wavy/curly hair) and here's what I found after countless tries and research: Structured hair requires way more attention and care, especially a softer approach. Brush them only when they are wet (I brush right after applying conditioner to help minimize resistance using a "Tangle Teezer"-brush). Generally speaking structured hair is prone to being dry and thus needs to be hydrated more. I use 2 shampoos, first one to cleanse (based on tea tree) and another that's less aggressive and aims to be more hydrating. Conditioner is up to you, try which ingredients work best for you specially (tbh almost every conditioner seems to have roughly the same hydrating effect, do not apply to scalp but instead from half way up until the ends because your scalp produces oils but those don't reach the ends of longer hair thus you need to supplement and provide important hydration and minerals with a conditioner/oil plus applying to scalp causes excessive oil production). Apply a hydrating hair mask once every 7-14 days and keep it for 5-10min before washing out. Additionally use a deep cleansing shampoo once per month to get rid of product build up in your hair. Hair oil (based on herbs or fruits like rosemary or coconut) once or twice per week on the ends works fantasticly well. It's important to keep in mind that the natural oil your scalp produces is essential but at the same time having too much can cause issues quickly so experiment and find a balance between your natural oils and products. Another thing is to stay away from alcohol/perfume as an ingredient (dries hair out) and laureth sulfate/micro plastics (clogs up your pores). Good luck!

Your instructions were detailed and brief. However, I’m an African American female and I have thick and dry hair but have experienced some hair loss. I’ve always normally washed my hair every 2 weeks or once a month. What would you recommend.
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist 6 ай бұрын
GPT Given your experience with thick, dry hair, and recent hair loss, adjusting your hair care routine to promote hair growth and scalp health is essential. For African American hair, which tends to be drier and more delicate, finding the right balance in washing frequency is crucial to prevent further dryness and damage while ensuring the scalp remains clean and conducive to hair growth. Based on the guidance for proper shampooing in hair loss and scalp conditions, here are some tailored recommendations: Shampoo Frequency: Considering your hair's dry nature, washing every 2 weeks might be suitable to maintain moisture levels without stripping natural oils. However, if you're experiencing hair loss, increasing the frequency slightly, such as washing once a week, might help address any scalp conditions contributing to the hair loss. It's important to monitor your hair's response to any changes in washing frequency and adjust accordingly. Shampoo Technique: When you do shampoo, use a gentle, hydrating shampoo formulated for dry or natural hair. Apply a quarter-sized amount of shampoo and use the pads of your fingers to gently massage the scalp. This method helps remove buildup without stripping moisture. Rinse thoroughly and follow with a second shampoo application, focusing on cleansing the scalp while being gentle with your hair strands. This double cleansing helps remove any debris, excess oil, and buildup, promoting a healthy scalp environment for hair growth. Conditioning: Always follow up with a hydrating conditioner, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. For the scalp, consider a lightweight, hydrating scalp conditioner that won't weigh down your roots or leave a greasy residue. This step is crucial for adding moisture back into your hair and scalp, especially after shampooing. Deep Conditioning: Incorporate a deep conditioning treatment into your routine, at least once a month or more frequently as needed. This can help address dryness and brittleness, making your hair more resilient against breakage. Scalp Care: For scalp health, consider using a light, nourishing oil or serum after washing to moisturize and protect the scalp without clogging pores. Products containing ingredients like peppermint oil, tea tree oil, or caprylic acid can offer additional benefits by promoting a balanced scalp environment. Low-Manipulation Styling: Opt for protective styles that minimize manipulation and tension on your hair. This reduces breakage and helps retain moisture between washes. Moisture Maintenance: Between washes, maintain moisture levels by using a leave-in conditioner or a light hair oil. Focus on ends and any particularly dry areas to prevent breakage. Diet and Supplements: Ensure you're getting enough nutrients that support hair growth, such as vitamins D, E, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Supplements can help, but it's best to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new regimen. Adjusting your hair care routine to include these steps can help address hair loss and improve the overall health of your hair and scalp. If you continue to experience hair loss or scalp issues, it might be beneficial to consult with a trichologist or dermatologist who can offer personalized advice and treatment options. You are doing a great job with hair problems. Well, my issue is that I developed seborrheic dermatitis at an early age, and my hair started falling out. Now, I am very worried about my kids' hair. Their hairline growth is very low, but the rest of their hair is fine. What could be the reason for the lack of hairline growth in my kids? Please advise.

Hey dr I’m 18 from the Uk recently my hair has been really brittle and weak near the scalp and it’s super dry whenever I try shampoo it makes me super self conscious. I also experienced hair loss and my corners slightly receded. I did have a blood test and my vitD is slightly below. Is vit d the reason or do I have telogen effluvium. I have thick Sri Lankan hair but it’s way thinner than it was before. Should I shampoo like you said and what oils should I use and should I use minoxidil hope u can help thank you

Isnt constantly washing hair a bad thing? Because you will be washing away the good oils on your scalp, also you lose some hair everytime you wash. Its impossible not to atleast lose 1 strand of hair when washing and drying.

GREAT VIDEO! After performing this method, before putting the topical oil, wouldn’t micro needling be ideal now that the scalp is perfectly clean and even further help the oil penetrate the scalp? Just my 2 cents! Thanks!
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! So I am not a huge advocate of the derma roller, because I feel as though it’s efficacy is totally overblown. But if you are going to use it for exfoliation, then yes you can do that. I do, however, recommend micro needling in a medical environment, every two weeks for usually for sessions, and then taking a 2 to 3 month break. But this is performed in the medical environment and it hurts and there is lots of blood because you’re getting into the dermal layer. That does work.

Is there a version of this for afro/kinky hair type? I have Lichen planopilaris and I've noticed my scalp is extremely tender, sensitive, and flaking after just 3-4 days. However, I can't even wash my hair every 4 days without exacerbated hair breakage, knotting, and dryness, so I really don't think I can do every 24-48 hours

Oil is not good for a lot of people on their scalp.. And if people are using it on the scalp, they should only be using very specific oils. no I do not typically recommend oil for a hair growth or hair loss scenario. I typically recommend a scalp serum that has very low oil like the FoliGrowth pellicular performance serum

Do you recommend to leave coconut oil or rosmary oil over night doctor?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist 6 ай бұрын
No, I do not recommend leaving oil on your scalp overnight because it could lead to greater infestation of yeast and fungus and bacteria because once the oil is on the scalp, it immediately begins to degrade until it is essentially food for microbials

@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist Thank you for the reply it's most appreciated. For 5 years now I have been experiencing ONE left sided hair loss since being diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. I am now on biologics to suppress my immune system. ( It's only on my left side of my entire head). It's always sheds more on the left, and I have less hair there. The left temple went nearly bald. So, I started using regain. It grew back. When I stopped, it fell out. So now for 4 months I am using rosmary oil and there's now hair growing but I don't know how long for. Iron levels are fine now because i take 3 iron tablets a day, ( the condition causes heavy bleeding) vitamin D is fine. I've seen 5 different dermatologist. I also went to Philips Kingsley. NO ONE has been able to tell me why this is happening. I also have left sided nerve pain and I have to take 70mg of Amatryptaline to stop it from burning. Hair loss and burning pain started at the same time. It's all very complicated 😕

Base on google; he is NOT a doctor “To become a Trichologist, you first need to become a licensed Cosmetologist or Barber. This is a prerequisite to sign up for the Trichology Certification program with us at the AAHSD. Once you complete the program and receive your Certification, you'll be able to start a hair loss practice or expand your existing one.” Still appreciate the info and just bought his shampoo, conditioner, and serum to try out

Correct, I am not a doctor. I am a certified trichologist and one of only 5 fellows with the World Trichology Society. Also have been in practice for 21 years and worked with A list celebrities, billionaires, athletes, and tens of thousands of men and women. But to your point there are a lot of inexperienced trichologists and there are also a lot of physicians that know nothing about hair loss.
