This nurse literally harassed a woman who had just given birth. Setting aside the fact that this is grossly homophobic, I don't think this nurse is stable enough to fulfill the basic function of her job.

Yes she is. You're the one who's not stable. She had the guts to call out a woman who decided to give away her baby to a male 'couple'. No doubt she was well paid for betraying her baby to its fate.

I adopted my son when he was 5. I was a single father, but the adoption went smoothly. A year and half later, I met my partner and I went from being a single dad to a couple who shared responsibility of this child. It was tough at times....especially when my son entered his teenage years, but my son never lied to his friends about having 2 dads. He was never ashamed of it. And now he just turned 23 and is serving in the US Army (He's currently in Afghanistan). We could not be prouder of the man he has become. Congrats on your adoption and you will find that there are more accepting people than there are ignorant fools. Enjoy your son! I'm sure he is loved!

I have two aunts, but I'm only related to one, the other is her partner. I spent A LOT of time with them growing up. I didn't realize until I was about 18 or 19 that they were lesbians. It struck me like a thunderbolt to the head. Being Pansexual myself, it didn't bother me. I was just surprised I didn't notice it earlier. The point is I never questioned it, to me they were my aunts and since no one made a point of it and they didn't really say anything about it, I just automatically thought it normal. Which leads me to this: Same sex parents can be seen as normal by their children. Sure, there might eventually be questions, but it's not all that different from any other question. I think it's outside influences, example that nurse, or perhaps some priest or just someone who's homophobic, that make it not normal. They want it not to be normal because they're too ignorant to accept people for, well, being people.
@williambunter3311

Hence, it's appropriate to ask if putting up children for adoption is the right decision, and nurses always ask those questions to both heterosexual and homosexual couples. There are times, when giving up children for adoption is the only way, depending on circumstances. There's no way of knowing that the nurse demeaned these men for their sexual orientation, hence it's only their assumption that they were being discriminated. Neither you nor that nurse had any idea what that birth mother's situation was. And no, nurses do not "always" ask those questions. Nurses are there for medical care, not social work. The birth mother had a social worker for that. None of anyone's business but the birth mother and the adoptive parents. And absolutely, positively, yes, I would have a huge problem with that nurse asking those questions in the case of a heterosexual couple adopting that little boy. I'm a psychologist. I'm not sure where you are getting your research from - the vast majority of research shows there is nothing damaging about homosexual parents. I'm happy to debate that with you, referring to actual evidence, if you want to? Also, I think you're sorely misunderstanding why this incident is being considered homophobic - and no, it's not just a case of 'disagreeing' with 'gays'. The nurse believed their homosexuality made them a risk to a young male child (I sincerely doubt she was saying to other mothers, 'watch your husband around your baby daughter. He might molest her'.) That is homophobic, and it could have lost them their child. There are no higher rates of paedophilia amongst homosexual men compared to straight men. If you can't see how her actions were far more than having an innocent disagreement with a gay person, and getting falsely accused of homophobia, you are both very blinkered, and lacking empathy.

Sorry, Sean, but all the modern research studies show absolutely NO negative effects upon children from same sex parents. You can Google that and see the numbers. Just as the recent Marriage Equality Act demonstrated: Love is Love. It's the love between the parents that is important on the lives of the children, not the genitalia. I can back that up with my 30 years of teaching over 7000 children. As far as bullying goes, we now have federal laws on the books to put an end to that nonsense. Society matures and gets educated eventually. Children are not born homophobic, adults teach that to them. As we as a society become more mature and more educated, homophobia will die a natural death. Education is the answer.
@seanm123451
@seanm123451 9 жыл бұрын
first of all, I don't know where you get your "modern" research because it is completely wrong because statistics actually do show that there are more psychological problems in kids who were raised by same sex parents as opposed to heterosexual parents. Secondly, I don't care what research you bring forth. It is a known fact that the kid will definitely live a tougher life and definitely have some sort of psychological issue that a normal child wouldn't have. You are right, children are not born homophobic but adults don't teach that either. It is part of human nature. Human nature tells us that men and women belong together and when something goes against our natural instincts we are definitely going to raise an eyebrow. Get it? It is natural and it is just unfortunate for the LGBT community that they are greatly outnumbered. That would be nice if homosexuality is accepted some day but in reality it will probably never be looked at as normal. You can't disprove science. Science of humans=reproduction. Gay=no reproduction

Daniel Newman 1-i think youl find that in the case of HIV/aids the higher percent in in straight couples. its just homosexuals made it "famous" when they couldnt seek medical treatment without being ostracized before people realized how stupid they were for ostracizing. as to any other std, if you dont wear a condom ofc your at a higher risk of catching an std. and homosexuals arent the only ones to have anal sex. 2. i dont see the relevance at all. even for a straight person you may like someone and theres no guarantee they will return the feelings. and with all the ways to meet people these days its pretty much certain if ur after a relationship youl find someone. how many dating sites, singles bars, "blind" or "speed" dating events are there now? 3. and for straight couples who cant conceive, they also have alternatives. i think you yourself have pretty much debunked your own point. 4. youl need to elaborate here. as far as im aware love is love. as mentioned above straight couples also practice anal, and a relationship isnt all about sex. in saying that- given the way the human male is structured, the shaft of the penis goes through the inside of the body in such a way that if something was inserted in the anus it would be akin to a form of mutual masturbation. so im failing to see your point at all here. 5.ill give you the benefit of assuming that was a joke :p ------------- my challenge stands, and the prize remains. a single un-refuted non religious argument against homosexuality. my next question to you then, because of your first statement- is something moral because god says so, or does god say so because its moral?

The picture at the end is so adorable! I wanna be part of a family like that one day. I hope they consider letting him have a brother or sister though. I'm a third child, I couldn't imagine having no siblings lol.

So glad this story ended up well. Andy seems like such a sweet guy; his son is super lucky to have him as a dad....every bit as lucky as I am for the amazing father I have. I'm a 33 year old straight guy....but most of my male friends have been gay, and I LOVE gay culture. I'm incapable of understanding the hate these people received. It just makes zero sense to me. Then again, I am an atheist....and in my experience *_100%_* of homophobia is born of religion. Period. Luckily, the good news is that younger generations are ditching religion at an astonishing rate. In 50 years, religion will be over and done with.....finally. Much luck to this awesome family!

Sam Tkach literally said nothing about communism in that entire comment. But sure keep diluting that insult to the point where it just means a reasonable person Bc I’m sure that’s what u want.

I apply for adoption in my country. Got rejected with the reason pedophile are not allowed to adopt kids. I said to them i am gay not a pedophile. They said oh ITS the same thing. IM leaving their office with so much anger.

Donald trump almost passed a legislation where adoption could be biased towards lgbtq and companies could too. This makes me sick. I hope that when I’m older it will be safer for me and others. I’m scared of what people think. There’s too much hate.

It's a crying shame that people are so darn judgmental!! It was not the nurse's place to judge!! I'm so glad that everything worked out for you two!! God bless!!

I had to laugh at you comment about two boys who didn't know what they were doing. I'm a straight, married woman with a lot of support, did all the parenting classes and when we got home from the hospital the first thing my husband and I said was "what were they thinking sending a baby home with US?" If we could do it, so can you! Your moms advice was spot on. You got this! I hope you adopt more children (if you want) because you sound like great parents.

That nurse should lose her license. The medical field is no place for prejudice.

If anything, it should be the opposite. With a medical degree, she should know that being gay isn’t a choice so it’s not fair for gay people to be denied adoption rights for how they were born.

First of all - CONGRATULATION with your babyson. That’s such a gift to be parents. Makes me really upset that the nurse was talking to the birthmother like that... that’s unheard of! But sounds like your birthmum was an amazing woman that stayed with the agreement and she didn’t let that nurse change her mind. Enjoy your little boy and your little family💙💚💙 I wish you a very happy future👌🏼🤗💛

I was adopted by a heterosexual pair of Fundamentalist Christians and they did damage me through raising me in their homophobic church. I'm not LGBT but the experience was enough to solidify me as a lifelong LGBT "Straight Ally". I wish I'd been raised in a more non-judgy environment, every day of my life. I bet this young man and his partner are great dads.

"They just gave these two boys a baby. We didn't know what the hell we were doing". In the UK, the NHS provides a lot of support to new parents. I'm surprised there are not organisations in the US that provide practical and emotional support to new parents. I can just imagine businessmen rubbing their hands together gleefully thinking how much money they could suck out of people, although it would be better handled by a non-profit.

The ending is really heart warming, actually how the gentleman talks about the whole progress is just amazing to hear. Except for the homophobic part, but the social worker has handled it great! The photo at the end is beautiful and I only would wish them lots of love and care ☺️
