A very powerful scene...and heart-breaking. It seems they're always just a shade shy of fitting together. I can't help but think that Cameron's instinct is always to run - to protect himself from (real) love as well as facing his inner self, his ability to give and take...to truly open his heart to pure, unadulterated love. I also find Derek's attraction and love for Cameron so fascinating, given his prior preference. It gives the story a powerful statement and a deeply touching rendering of imperfect love.

They are clearly polar opposites in so many ways, and I am wondering if Derek will ever come to some conclusion that he is not just ambisexual. The episode of sex on the front hall floor evidenced their attraction to each other, and I am not sure how anyone could suggest that sex isn't always just about sex: it is an incredible intimacy for ordinary, sophisticated, and even not so sophisticated others. Can not imagine being in that relationship and not being intimate: mind boggling. Is Derek simply homophobic or closeted so much for other reasons that he can not function except in this private sense. There would be no perfect way to go through this, or through anything else, either. Things pivoting, tilting, and turning unto and into simple consciousness. Being human is necessary now, and quite all right

Well that sex act, on the floor of Cameron's apartment, happened over a year after they started hanging out, getting to know each other and basically...falling in love. Unlike lust which feeds some other kind of hunger, their "love making," in this scene followed an intensely emotionally intimate weekend. Derek's sexual attraction to Cameron is based on his love for him and the intimacy, honesty and integrity that continues to grow as their relationship expands. Cameron's sexual attraction to Derek is colored by his past patterns and often times is rooted in his lust...hence the conflict in the relationship.

Cameron is wrong. Derek is all he's ever wanted and is afraid. Cameron wants his cake and eat it too. Sorry you can't have it both ways. Cameron sees the error of his ways and feels he's not good enough. Derek is making him a better person and Cameron is afraid of change.
