ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഒരു തവണയെങ്കിലും body shame ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ബാല്യമോ, കൌമാരമോ ഉള്ളവർക്ക് അതിന്റെ തീവ്രത ശരിക്ക് മനസ്സിലാവും. ഒരു വ്യക്തിയെ പൂർണ്ണമായും തകർത്തു കളയാൻ വിരലിൽ എണ്ണാവുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ മതി. റേറ്റിംഗ് കൂട്ടാൻ വേണ്ടി എന്തും വിളിച്ചു പറയാൻ ചിലരും, കേൾക്കാൻ ചിലരും എന്ന മട്ടിൽ തയ്യാറായി വരുന്നവർക്ക് അതൊക്ക നിസ്സാരമാവും. പണത്തിനു മീതെ പരുന്തും പറക്കില്ലാന്നല്ലേ?? എന്നാലും സ്വന്തം കഴിവുകേട് തുറന്നു സമ്മതിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറില്ലാത്ത ഇവരുടെയൊക്കെ തൊലിക്കട്ടി സമ്മതിക്കണം!!!😄

True. ഞാൻ ചെറുതായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ തന്നെ എനിക്ക് ഈ രണ്ടു shows ഉം ഇഷ്ട്ടമല്ല🤢. എന്റെ ചേട്ടൻ എപ്പോ നോക്കിയാലും ഈ comedy shows ആണ് കാണുന്നത്. എല്ലാ കോമഡിക്കും ചിരിക്കും🥴. അതിൽ പറയുന്നതൊന്നും എനിക്ക് കോമഡി ആയിട്ട് തോന്നാറില്ല😒. ഞാൻ വിചാരിച്ചു അത് എന്റെ കുഴപ്പം ആണെന്ന്. ഇപ്പോൾ മനസിലായി അത് ആ പ്രോഗ്രാമിന്റെ കുഴപ്പം ആണെന്ന്.

പത്തിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന സമയം നാട്ടിലുള്ള ഒരാളിൽ നിന്ന് "ആ പല്ല് വെച്ച് ഇങ്ങനെ ഇളിക്കല്ലേ" എന്ന് കേട്ട് പിന്നീട് ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ മുഴുവൻ വായ കൈ കൊണ്ട് മറക്കുമായിരുന്നു.. പിന്നീട് 20-ആം വയസ്സിൽ പല്ല് ക്ലിപ്പ് ഇട്ട് ഒരു വർഷത്തിന് ശേഷമാണ് കൈ കൊണ്ട് മറക്കാതെ ചിരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയത്.. അന്ന് ക്ലിപ്പ് ഊരിയ ശേഷം ഡോക്ടർക്ക് നേരെ ഞാൻ ചിരിച്ച ചിരി ഒരുകാലത്തും ഞാൻ മറക്കില്ല 🥰

പൊങ്ങിയ പല്ലിനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള "കോമെടി"കൾക്ക് ഒരു പഞ്ഞവും ഇല്ല! എല്ലാരും കൊക്കയിൽ വീഴുമ്പോ നിലത്തു വീണു മരിക്കും, പക്ഷെ ഞാൻ മരിക്കില്ല പോലും......കാരണം? പൊങ്ങിയ പല്ലു വല്ല മരത്തിലും ഉടക്കി നില്കും അത്രേ ! ഒരു കൊളീഗ് പറഞ്ഞ "കോമഡി " ആണ്. പുള്ളി പറഞ്ഞതിനേക്കാൾ ഉപരി, അത് കേട്ട് ചുറ്റും ഇരുന്നു ആർത്തട്ടഹസിച്ച "കൂട്ടുകാർ" എന്ന് പറയപെടുന്നവരെ ആണ് വെറുത്തു പോയത്. And still they wonder why I do not get along with them!

ഞാൻ 4th ൽ പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ എന്റെ English ടീച്ചർ ക്ലാസിൽ ഇരുന്ന് സംസാരിച്ച പല്ലു പൊങ്ങിയ ഒരു പയ്യനെ എഴുന്നേൽപ്പിച്ച് ചോദ്യം ചോദിച്ചു. ക്ലാസിൽ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതിരുന്നത് കൊണ്ട് അവന് ഉത്തരം പറയാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല (obviously). തിരിച്ച് എന്റെ ടീച്ചർ അവനോട് പറഞ്ഞ reply, "ചുമ്മാതെ അല്ലടോ തന്റെ പല്ല് ഇങ്ങനെ മേകോ എന്ന് ഇരിക്കുന്നത്" എന്ന്..😶😶 അന്ന് 8 വയസ്സുള്ള ഞാൻ പ്രതികരിച്ചു.. ആ പയ്യൻ 8th കഴിഞ്ഞ് school മാറി പോയി.. Plus two ആയിട്ടു പോലും പക്ഷെ ആ ടീച്ചറിനു എന്നോടുള്ള കലിപ്പ് പോയീരുന്നില്ല🥲 ഇവരെ ഒന്നും educate ചെയ്യാൻ നിന്നിട്ട് ഗുണം ഇല്ലെന്നാ എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നേ.. പക്ഷെ നമുക്ക് വേറെ എന്ത് ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റും.. 🥲🥲🥲

I have a 5 year old cousin sister, once I saw her crying when I enquired she told me she hate her colour which was dark toned. I was shocked. Later I found her watching star magic and laughing suddenly a racist joke came , she seems to be sad but still went with the flow. Later I asked her why she hates her colour, she literally told me having dark tone is a default and every one in the show is making fun of it. I have only one thing to tell these shows could make a 5 year old insecure about her skin colour and still we want to take it as a mere joke . This is not a joke .

How sad! Same here my close friend has twins, they are 8 years now, both have different contrast skin tones. The family especially grand parents always mentions their happiness over the lighter tone one child born with. Things like “oh at-least she is fair” “ look at her she will definitely land in movies” even guests contribute to this insanity “oh this one is so fair naa” As a mute spectator I can see the child with darker tone slowly moving into an oblivion. Increasingly reclusive and not outgoing. Mother expressed concern over it yet not found out the real reason, but the whole family has come to a conclusion “she is studious, full time into studies not interested to go out and play” imagine a child brought up in a situation like that. Such toxic upbringing. If Tv shows, movies or any other media fuel this kind of mindset, society will be consisting of only people with two type 1. Over powering Regressive minded 2. Insecure about themselves.

ഈ കഴിഞ്ഞ ഇടയ്ക്ക് ആണ് Mr.Butler എന്ന മൂവി കുറെ കാലത്തിനു ശേഷം വീണ്ടും കണ്ടത്. അതിൽ ഉണ്ട് ഒരു bodyshaming സീൻ. ഒരു തടിയുള്ള woman character ബോധം കെട്ട് വീഴുന്നത് ആണ് സീൻ. എൻ്റെ പൊന്നോ unbearable. എന്തിനാണ് ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു സീൻ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയത് എന്നാണ് ഞാൻ ചിന്തിച്ചത്. ആ സീനിൻ്റെ ആവശ്യം പോലും ആ സിനിമയിൽ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. കോമഡിയ്ക് വേണ്ടി കുത്തി തിരുകിയത് ആണെങ്കിലും കാണുമ്പോൾ സഹതാപം ആണ് തോന്നുന്നത്

The movies we used to enjoy watching back then are unbearable to watch now. Almost every movies, or atleast majority of the movies made include atleast 1 or 2 toxic jokes targeting bodyshaming, sexism, rape jokes, racism and so on. Can't believe how regressive the people were back then, and most of them haven't grown even a bit to this date. They're stuck with such toxicity by laughing at those so called "jokes".

Certain forms of linguistic expressions we use in everyday language contains the idea of racism. Some people dont even know the meaning of words they use in life and their political and cultural implications. But what makes me shocked is this. A lot of times i come across people who try to normalise things even though we try to point out them that this or that particular word has a subtle racists connotation. But they often dont pay attention to it, for they take things for granted and say there is nothing wrong in using such words in quotian conversation. For me, this is sheer ignorance.
