Shooting an e-mail to a speaker or event organizer before the event is a super valuable piece of advice. Doing a bit of social media research (not the creepy kind!) is good too. And having your own social media presence reflect your brand is just as important, because most people that will want to hire you WILL Google your name before bringing you on.

Thank you Akash for the terrific talk. I actually recommend composers to study business at school, rather than music. As you said, having a systematic plan for attracting clients is a crucial point of success for freelancing.

As someone who just started to build their freelance network, I'm super glad this video came out now. Going to the Global Game Jam in Vancouver next week and I'm super stocked to start using some things you mention in this video :P. Lots lots lots of thanks Akash!

Great talk. Having a contract has been my main worry when a client comes up. I've found some templates online, but I don't want a contract with pages up and down of legalese. I tried to write my own, but eventually ended up just laying down the terms via e-mail with my last client. Does anyone have a good, simple contract template?
