Dude you couldn’t be any more right about what you said about the value of your premium stuff. I finally subscribed a month or two ago, partially because I really wanted to know how some of your jobs ended (which your editing really helps keep you engaged, good job Caleb ) and the other side was from how much I learned just from your normal KZbin stuff. I’m not even in the same field, I’m in heavy diesels with 15L engines but the electrical stuff you teach is 100% the same across the board. On the days I get 20 min or so for lunch I’m sitting in my truck trying to absorb all this stuff you’re teaching. It’s also helped me teach my other shop guys to be better at troubleshooting electrical (at least the ones willing or wanting to learn) Cummins should probably sit down and take some of your courses because they are huge on ohm testing circuits on the emissions systems and most of the checks they have you do is such a waste of time because they aren’t loaded when you’re doing them, I learned that from your info and it’s saved us a ton of time on the stuff we have out of warranty that we are doing ourselves. Even the stuff that is warranty we’ve been able to save our dealer some time every now and then giving the tech’s more info when we drop something off. I know this was pretty long but I wanted to say thanks for making the cost of this great knowledge so reasonable, it makes it easier to suggest to friends and colleagues that they should check it out because it really made me better at solving these puzzles.

That's the BEST quote you said at the end of the video. "The technician should be paid again. The garage should be paid again. WE DON'T WORK FOR FREE! And this is not ripping off the customer. It's getting paid for your knowledge. I make no apologies." I'll use this on my clients that don't want to pay me on comebacks that have separate problems. I always learn something new on each video. Love it! The music during the “inspirational” speech was hillarious! On a more serious note, I couldn’t agree more that it is so absolutely rewarding to chase down the failure. What throws the biggest wrench in the gears, is not having a proper knowledge of electrical theory and of particular system to accurately and efficiently diagnose it. I am so thankful for you showing the real life experiences of a mechanic. I have also been doing this for over 20 years. I just went to an evening training event held by our local parts supply store, one of the young techs went with me. The instructor keep saying that we should be able to diagnose every problem in 10 minutes. If we are taking longer than that, there is something wrong with us. I kept thinking that maybe magic man could come work for our shop then. I know we should be as efficient as we can be, but that instructor wasn’t speaking truth. You speak truth. @23:35, I keep a 6" length of clear plastic water hose on hand to check the proper function of the plugs. Slip a quick connect into one end and the plug at the other end and connect it to shop air. If it fires at 100 PSI of dry air, it'll fire the fuel/air charge under compression. If there's a crack somewhere not visible, It won't fire at the electrodes.

@@throttlebottle5906 I can use higher pressure, but 100 PSI is more than enough to detect a faulty plug. IIRC, a good coil barely sparks across 1/8" at 120 PSI. The piece of tubing probably cost me 35 cents 20 years ago. I've only used it a handful of times. It surprises me that when a customer does their own maintenance after having their car in a shop and things go wroung after they've done something their car, that they'll take it back to the mechanic and complain that they didn't fix it correctly only for the mechanic to do some fault finding that they find the problem was caused by whatever the owner had done to it in the 1st place. It is a good thing that you have an honest customer who informed you of what they have done so that will cut down a majority of the diag time and you knew where to start looking.

I love rollercoasters you see a lot on one. That new scanner you used is nice. It's not a snap-on. But nice information that comes from it.

Paul this video is special , the reason why I said so is because you gave us a mixture of not just diagnosing the car but you could also do well under the cloth 😜 , so that additional word of praise and worship made it a big deal and as usual let's keep the fire 🔥🔥🔥 burning. (I hope you understand what that means ).

One thing I'm always harping on, is that just because new parts were installed, doesn't mean it was repaired. It doesn't mean the parts were bad or good. More often than not, a lot of vehicles I've repaired, had the same or more issues due to improper repair. Champion coppers in a vortec V8, etc.

Awesome 3 part video! I'm dealing with what is likely a stuck open injector on a '18 F150 3.5L ecoboost. Already came to the same conclusion (misfire code, dumping smoke and fuel out the tailpipe, low rail fuel pressure code), so it's great to have someone with so much more experience (and fancier scan tool) have the same thing. Hopefully my high pressure pump isn't part of the problem, but I'll look at the fuel for metal (thanks!). And this was my first time dealing with coils and coil boots, so while it didn't move with the plug or coil, the boots just have a different feel than non-coil systems, so I'll be sure to pay attention to that. And your paid courses sounds great, so while I like the challenge of diagnosing (across a lot of areas) and fixing in person, the classes will be something to look at when I have some time.

Saturday AM Danner Bootcamp. It has a bit of everything; tech advise, humor, confusion and church on Saturday. All that was missing is Lassie greeting Paul as he left the repaired vehicle. Glad I had my boots on! ps : Darn straight you deserve to get paid for your efforts.

You can hear the spark snapping in the plug tube on the video (maybe not from your position, too much engine noise), it was gone after you properly installed the coil.

Absolutely the garage and the tech should be paid again. The tech isnt responsible for it, the garage isnt responsible for it. If the shop tracks comebacks, it shouldnt be counted against the tech either. I was just having a discussion with a coworker today about diagnostics and charging properly for them. Hes younger and not as experienced as i am(not saying I know everything or putting myself "above" anyone), but, for me and my diagnostic skills/knowledge/experience, when doing diagnostics, if the shop is charging properly, i should be as profitable or more profitable, than hanging brakes, doing flushes, etc. I know thats a run on sentence and hopefully my points articulated with it lol Great job as always, Paul! Caleb, great editing skills, as always. I appreciate you guys and what youre doing. I pray our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, continues to bless the Danner family. Ive learned a TON from you guys, not just when it comes to diagnostics, but in the way i carry myself, treat others, etc.
