I really like the attitude of this channel. Professional tuners/fabbers, that don't have their pride so far up their asses enough that they act like boujee turbo queens.. They warn against some of the issues that may come with installing less quality generic systems, but also aren't completely against them and still install them themselves and will talk of things that you should not be cheap out on.

Hey Jarom.👋 I thought my lunchbreak would never get here😩... finally, got a chance to watch. Like everyone else, I'm excited to see the results. I respect the fact that you showed things as they were, even when they weren't exactly as planned. Even more than that, I appreciate your and Panda's willingness to try a smaller turbo to improve on those results. So you didn't get everything dialed in on the first attempt... no biggie. That's to be expected on trendsetting, r&d projects like this. Very interesting to hear that the turbos spooled 1000 rpm sooner once the exhaust was up to higher temps. That tells me an exhaust wrap and turbo blankets are in the future. Looks like everything is headed in the right direction now.👌 I like your spirit and ambition, and no doubt you will prevail. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with. If I'm being honest, you've got me looking at 370Zs now. haha. Thanks for sharing your work and have a great day, brother.✌

Throwing some ideas at at ya because I have a remote mounted turbo Z as well, garage style build. Tuned by Admin Tuning -Consider an electronic boost controller. Without a boost controller, the lag was awful. With a manual boost controller, it got better. I had the best results with an electronic boost controller. Spool time increased a lot. -As you said, more heat, the car spooled faster. Consider heat wrapping the exhaust to keep more heat in and additionally help spool more. Just some ideas. Love the video series!

I've been planning on playing with a remote mount turbo for my Ls6 Fd rx7, from talking to people that have played around with different setups they found the best for spool was using ceramic coated steam pipe for the exhaust to hold that heat in, you can wrap it but that effects how long your exhaust actually lasts (in most cases not even a year!) also a turbo blanket and electronic boost controller will help a tonne!

a big thing I learned running rear mount this year is that you have to consider excess exhaust pressure at the wastegate.. the cooler exhaust gasses have a hard time getting through the turbo and can push a WG open sooner than it would on a normal setup, I would like to see the current turbos given a better chance with electronic boost control and a well sealed and insulated exhaust.

For spool you lost a lot of exhaust energy through the loss of heat. Ceramic coated/wrapped (and properly sealed so they don't retain moisture) and use a turbo blanket. That's what I found on yellow bullet forums. A twin spool turbo with a quick spool valve would also help significantly with earlier boost
@DivaniKingston

Pretty Much how I approached my system. Want to redo some things. But I absolutely noticed the change in spool with temperature, too. Thought it was me, but now I see that's a thing! we're running similar displacements. I went with a single 6462 from CompTurbo originally. I'm running a single 6262 for spool at this point, but I'm curious to see what you do with smaller twins!

So, this car made 4lbs of boost and 339whp 264wtq? Look i know all dynos are different but there are NA bolt-on cars running around making those exact numbers, some of them make even more torque. Not to judge you too much but do you have any idea what you are doing? Just to make sure i saw correctly on that 339whp dyno runs AFRs were in the 9.2:1 range? Is this car running E85? If not just by running the correct AFR you would have picked up a good amount of HP, in fact that is exactly what happened with the smaller turbos the AFR moved to 11.0:1 which is around where it should be for a boosted car. Then on top of that why are you changing turbos when the system is leaking? Fix the leaks FIRST then determine if turbos are too small. You might end up in situation where those now fast spooling turbos are too small and choke the engine in the higher RPM range. This is again why i ask do you guys have any idea on what you are doing? But, ebay turbos, so carry, if it were my car and i saw this if i paid you guys for it i would be pissed lol. But the owner bought ebay turbos so.

rad man, love it. i wonder if you reduced the exhaust early on from ie: 3" -> 2" if it would super heat the air and spool really early, or if it would be detrimental because of reduced air flow 🤷‍♂️

Wrap the exhaust all the way to the turbo, not sure what exhaust you guys have on it but for the LS/LQ platform the thick cast iron short length headers trapped in more heat and spool turbos up quicker and would have a negative affect if the same setup had longtubes. And for 350whp I wouldn't even run the intercooler. The charge air will be cooled down as it travels to the front of the car. My Trans Am made 430whp 6# 520whp 9.5# on 91, stock ls1 with intake only and still had stock exhaust including the cats non intercooled. Hopefully this helps you guys out switching things up, these setups work fine when the turbo sizing is correctly matched to the combo, just think about the drag cars who run an ice box in the trunk and have to feed charge side to the rear through the ice box and back to the front of the intake. Also Squires turbo systems can also help to they're a rearmount turbo specialist.
@itsJoshW
@itsJoshW 5 жыл бұрын
I'm only at 2:10 BUT I can comment on a few things you are neglecting to remember about turbos lol. The flange style, you should either move to 3 bolt flange OR go to vband. I'm sure you'll cover/figure that out. I didn't think about exhaust leaks due to this. However, this segways into the next portion: Your late exhaust spool could easily be due to exhaust leaks AND the performance parts before hitting the turbos. If you are running aftermarket headers, and larger piping than usual through, you may be hitting a lower velocity to spin the turbos. I was researching a few ideas regarding turbo threshold when turbos are mid, rear or front mount (essentially needing an up-pipe to the turbo), and from my understanding, the piping diameter and the heat retention all affect the effective velocity to get to the turbo. That goes into another good idea: I believe these are journal bearing turbos. Did you consider trying dual ball bearing turbos or lighter mass turbos? Decreasing the AR and going with a small turbo in general could increase the spool time -- but at this time frame, it's effectively your turbo threshold that is affected, correct? The time it takes the turbos to spool and then push back into the intake. In this case, you could also consider heat wrapping your intake piping (to keep heat away from it) and (if possible) see if there's shorter runs to get to the intercooler and back to the throttle body.

I forgot to say ceramic coating and heat wrap on the exhaust side as well to increase spool time and threshold.

I was also surprised as well how much faster my rear mount spooled at the track with some heat in it vs doing a pull here and there on the street! but also a bit disappointed with the heat wrap results, it seems like not a lot of actual exhaust temp is lost through the walls of the pipe because the heat wrap didn't seem to do much at all :(

Doing a rear mount for my car. Single kit. Where do you put your front, rear and any wideband o2 sensors your retain for the stock system? Some say after, some say leave in stock locations. They say the backpressure from the turbo skews the readings of teh wideband? Where did you put yours?? Thanks for your help. Keep up the vids!!!!
@GearheadsAutofab
@GearheadsAutofab 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, short answer is leave them in stock location, but the reading is off once it goes in to boost, I added a bung for my dyno wide band after the turbo. The stock ones read good until boost but after the turbo reads laggy for tuning idle and part throttle driving areas. It’s defiantly a interesting situation. But after a bit of logging you’ll see how far off stuff is and get a sense of how to get the tune correct. 😁👌🚗💨
