I just got one with a 6.5 turbo with the problematic Duramax block and the old transmission. I'm upgrading mine to a 6.6 turbo and an Allison tranny. The difference is like night and day in power and also much better fuel mileage. It accelerates fast and pins you in your seat. I went and drove one before I made my decision......then there was no question. Good luck with your. These damn beasts rock.......even if they can be a pain in the ass sourcing parts.

How did the upgrade go?

Great truck!! You hot a great set up. I love that front bumper. Very cool. I'm sure your body mounts are wore out because of the armour package. Now that its stripped down, the new ones will last for ever.
@GearreportdotCom4 жыл бұрын
I hope you are correct. I replaced the 2 aft body mounts a few days ago. Not a hard job, but not something I care to do again any time soon.

Flat plates on the rear quarters are ammo can holders
@GearreportdotCom10 ай бұрын
On some configurations, yep. On others, like this, they would have been radios. The Battlewagon 2 had ammo can holders up there.

I want one! Also it is taller most likely because it does not have the armor it was designed to carry. I am sure it doesn’t handle as well without the armor, being now over-sprung off-road. That’s the issue with these trucks, perhaps there are springs that can be added with less stiffness.
@GearreportdotCom3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That is especially true of some of the earlier models, like the 3rd generation HMMWVs. The newer trucks like this 5th generation model have much nicer variable rate springs that ride a lot better without the massive weight of the body armor.

Thanks for this video. Ive been waiting for it for a bit. It’s a shame that in order to get the beefier frame and suspension, you need to get the up-armored version with holes and cut bolts. I opted for the std 1165. After you discussing the geared cooling system, I’m glad. Mine is still the standard set up and I already found parts for it. I don’t think I ever seen parts for the A1 cooling system out there yet. Keep making the videos. I look forward to seeing them about this truck.

I have a spare GFD and have seen a few more... but they are crazy rare. The holes everywhere suck. I don’t want to cover with real armor. Don’t want that weight. What kind of videos do you want to see?
@clashofclansshield85834 жыл бұрын
Gear-Report.com keep that gfd with the truck. You never know when you are going to need it. As for the holes, ive seen someone that just put large enough bolts and nuts on it. It makes it look a bit aggressive.

@@GearreportdotCom Aluminum hole patching with some welding or buying angle iron and making some jackrails to cover the holes. One takes time and patience with a welder and grinder sander, body work. and one takes skill with a welder, cutter and bolts. Either way. Lots of "fun" teach the scouts thier welding /metal working badge... When you wire up your accessories, a detailed video on it would be really awesome to watch! I really like the way you present your content. Awesome truck and I like your plans!

I am wondering if there really is a chassis difference between the A1 and standard version. Important question for me is because I have a local friend that is getting an A1 1152 for part out. I need a lot of the chassis parts and want to make sure it is comparable. I question this because i ordered bolts for an idler arm and it came in an inch too short from what I expected. I also have the coolant lines going to the rear diff. Though I don’t have the clutch fan or under seat impact absorbers, i wonder if the chassis differs in some ways. I noticed that both are rated at 12.1k gvrw.

If you have some time, can you make an engine dedicated video of explanation of what each component is, does, and where and how it is placed or mounted. There are a lot of things loose or possibly missing in the engine and I either need to figure out what to order or how it was originally mounted.
@GearreportdotCom3 жыл бұрын
I may be able to do something like that. I can speak in general terms about most things. The Parts TM for your specific model of truck should be pretty helpful as well in decoding what goes where.
@clashofclansshield85833 жыл бұрын
There are so many TMs that I downloaded but I cant find the ones to specify part numbers. Too many dependancies referring to other TMs. Looking at all of these on a pdf on my phone is improbable. Do you know the parts TM number?
@GearreportdotCom3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Tim. I just saw this. Parts TMs are listed in here and categorized by which model truck you have. gear-report.com/humvee-manuals-download-hmmwv-manual-links/ You'll want to scroll down to the "Parts Manuals" section and click the link for your truck... ECV, right? So, the TM-9-2320-387-24P.

Just got a 1165A1 just like yours from govplanet. Your video is excellent and very helpful. I am missing the deep order forwarding kit valve just like you were. Is that something I need to have before I crank it? Not sure what all it controls but the tubing leading to it has been cut.

Did you get around to swapping your body mounts out? Who did you buy them from to make sure they don’t disentintegrate again? If you did swap them did you video it?

I only did the rear 2x so far. I REALLY need to do the center body mounts, as I’m leaving a trail of little blue bits as I drive. I took pictures, but I don’t think video. I’ll check and see if I added that to my Daily Updates page, which I have fallen desperately behind on. gear-report.com/m1165-a1-humvee-from-the-us-marine-corps-battlewagon-3-updates-page-2/

Thanks for these videos and your website. I’m having the exact same issues with my 1165 that you did. The same guy must have demilled it. Waiting on a start switch because mine was frozen too. Did you change the fuel filter before starting it?
@GearreportdotCom3 жыл бұрын
I did, but I recommend you check it and run it a while before you change it if it is ok. You’ll likely get trash in it from the tank. So, let the old filter get that trash instead of ruining a new filter.
