Its such a kids thing to have those non specific plans with huge payoffs: 1. Take cold showers, stay up all night 2. ??? 3. Get a million dollars at 13
@Jaehyunsleftear9 ай бұрын
My thing about this is that their goals are a vague lifestyle. if these kids had specific career goals that would get them the money to live that lifestyle then the hustle makes sense but the goal in itself is an extreme example of what “success” looks like and the methods are unclear but they’re promised that a strict lifestyle devoid of any fun will get them there.

These kids will be shocked when they learn that it's ok for them to discover themselves and that being a billionaire (which is not as likely when ur not born as one) is not the most important thing in life. I'm sure they've heard adults say that, but once they realize it's true...

"I hate cold showers but i have to do it" from someone who missed this trend completely only got multiple questions in my mind (you answered most) but it is still weird to me to be so obsessed over money when they haven't even moved out from their parents house. It is also a bit sad (and sick) because the brain isn't fully developed in kids, like the rational part of the brain and these "gurus" use that to their advantages. But this isn't new, only easier now days, before was it books like "The game" and magazines on how to get skinny, muscular, famous, rich or whatever. Nice rug like always! I really like how you emphasize parts of it instead of just making everything even.
@doothi7 ай бұрын
so true, i wish i emphasized the point that their child brains are literally not developed and can’t critically engage with the concept of meritocratic financial freedom 😭 also yess i could’ve done a whole other video on the predatory nature of these gurus overlapping with the wellness/beauty industry targeting kids at younger and younger ages. i’m glad you liked the rug!! 🫶🏽

I like that you pointed out how they’re literally told that it’s necessary for their “sigma grind🤓” to be completely delusional and not listen to others which just leads them to act like four year olds with no consideration for others. Fire vid fr

what pisses me off most about hussle culture is that 90% of the advice they give to become a "self made millionare" is completely unrelated to starting a business or making money whatsoever, its just "wake up at 3 am, eat raw chicken, take icebath"

Saw you comment on a video about trying rug tufting and thought I'd check you out. I'm so glad I did! I'm a teacher and I see this attitude with the 11-16 crowd all the time. Sometimes to a point where I've had them tell me that I can't be that smart since I'm a teacher (top of my year group all the way through school, got a Masters and chose to give back to children from low income backgrounds like myself) and that I'm there only for the paycheck, not because I care about their learning (if I wanted money, I could do other, easier and more respected jobs with my degree). However, the catch is that the average Gen Alpha kid doesn't have the hussle, but instead they think that their slightly above average skill in something (computers, football, art, music) when compared to their local peers (~300 children) means they will automatically excell and make lots of money. They outright tell me that there is no use in them ever learning English (specifically critical thinking skills, solid reading skills), for example, because they won't need that in the job they want. I frequently have to tell them that no matter what job you have, you need to be able to read contracts and convince others to hire you; if it were as easy as just walking into one's dream job, immediately becoming rich and famous, everyone would be rich and famous. So, I guess I'm wondering... what should we call the Gen Alpha kid with the entitled, delusional expectations of what their life will be like as a result of consuming the same content as these Alpha Sigma ones? How did one get 'let's hustle endlessly' and the other 'it will just fall in my lap'? Particularly when I teach in a truly deprived area where the majority of these children have seen that money doesn't just fall in people's laps!

As someone who went through a sigma grindset phase in their mid to late teenage years, it's disturbing to see this trend expand so rapidly. As you called it, the "kidzboppification of capitalism" is very real. I was even pretty critical of a lot of the sigma grindset content throughout most of that time, but still the delusional ideas of that sacrifice surely being worth it dictated my behaviour for a long time and are hard to get rid of. I took a hobby of mine and tried so so hard to make a career out of it. I put aside a lot of the fun in life and this just resulted in depression. You basically know a lot of these "locked in" kids are gon suffer for a fake promise :/

When I first saw discussion of this online I didn't pay much attention to it and so thought it was about the current youngins (me included) so it seemed reasonable to be worrying about money since all of us can barely afford to live 😭 Now knowing it's about people younger than us, LITERAL BABIES makes no sense?? It ultimately is concerning. They shouldn't be spending these years focusing on such stuff. Yet it makes sense because of everything they're witnessing going on right now with financial, physical and emotional issues. It's probably the fear of no stability for yourself and those you love. But all they're commiting to right now is ultimatly useless because they have no actual idea of how it works or how to do it properly so the cycle *is* going to continue until they break :(
@doothi9 ай бұрын
yess there’s no problem with young people being invested or even passionate about personal finance but their limited understanding of the topic paired with their overcommitment to the lifestyle isn’t productive at all to their newfound goals of wealth 😭

I think it all comes down to the content they consume. I was born in 2010, and I don't really care for the terms of the generation I am in. But due to me, in general, growing fast, for me childhood was only fully when I was seven or eight. And there, I grew up with FNAF gmod videos. I haven't seen gmod in FOREVER, I don't know what I'd be considered or anything but I'm fourteen right now and I can say my classmates lack reading skills. In my ELA class, we've been studying and looking at poems. Not a single person, except for my friend and I.. and a few others could understand or try to make out the meaning. Everyone kept taking the words far too literally, as if they don't know what a poem is to begin with.
@shuashotto26 күн бұрын
But for me, I grew up with gmod whatever and matpat, so because of the consuption of FNAF theories, I'm extremely used to having to read into lines more. And in general, my parents have always taught me how things work. When I was younger, and children would go on about cooties or whatever, I genuinely couldn't understand because I didn't grow up with things like that. I grew up seeing kissing scenes and going "Well, that's a step to how everyone is made in life". I never had many other children inside my life other than family members, so I never got small little code words that kids would make up in the playground. I never got the little rules randomly made. So it all depends on just how the parent treats and teaches their child. It's not the children, it's their parents not making efforts.

I believe that these children are not just an unfortunate byproduct of society, but rather an inevitable outcome of current material conditions. Increasingly, households live in a state of precarity, and the cost of attending college in the U.S. continues to rise. A lot of households, especially of marginalized groups are one financial crisis/one accident/one divorce away from homelessness. Naturally, children are picking up on these signals and gravitating toward crypto and “alpha” communities for solutions. Surprisingly, these spaces-for predatory reasons unfortunately :( -do acknowledge these young people’s struggles and offer them a sense of hope(scams). It would therefore be unrealistic to suggest that they simply enjoy their childhoods as previous generations (Gen Z and Millennials) did, because that kind of carefree upbringing no longer aligns with their current reality. Instead of thinking nostalgically about our own childhood, we should be thinking about their struggles and why they are doing these desperate things to begin with.

Watching a kid attempt to bulk is the funniest and most horrific shit I have seen. I hope it's just something he forgot about after a week though because that's at least an unhealthy relationship with food if not an eating disorder in development.
