Also has anyone noticed how KZbin videos are a lot longer than they used to be?When I was younger, the longest videos I watched and could have thought of were 22 min. Nowadays, 15 minutes are the shortest videos I could think of . ( with only a few shorter exeptions, and I'm not counting YT shorts )
@risxra4 ай бұрын
I think this is bc of the way KZbin changed monetization c. 2015 (not positive abt the year). It used to be that the number of views was the primary metric for monetization and general KZbin success - you couldn’t even upload videos that were 10 minutes or longer if you weren’t partnered back in the day. Now, it’s all about watch time: the longer someone spends watching your content, the more you get paid. It’s far more lucrative to make long-form content.
@marnenotmarnie259Ай бұрын
yeah lol when i first got into youtube anything more than five minutes long felt like forever. now i barely ever click on videos shorter than 40 minutes. i'm automatically more excited about a video that's at least an hour and a half long, and if it's 3+ hours it gets a HELL YEAH (especially if it's about a show i've never watched for some reason)

This topic is something that fascinates me especially because I don't experience this phenomenon. It's bizarre to observe this happen to others while I barely notice any changes in my own content consumption. It's most likely caused by my autism - I have a tendency to hyperfocus on actions for hours, so I can easily do the same with videos. But also I can't stand being overstimulated, so I'm way more likely to click off a video if there's too much going on at once or if it's too chaotic. I'm much more of a fan of older styles of editing, cause they're not as erratic as more recently. But I've definitely noticed neurotypcal friends struggle with paying attention, reading longer texts or just staying put.

ahh i have a friend like you who can just sit for hours and do puzzles in silence 😭 meanwhile i’m on the opposite side of the neurodivergent spectrum and am zooming around and pacing aggressively in the midst of silence

why isnt this more popular. Like genuinely, this is the type of content that I see have lots of attention on it, the editing is nice and the point is something interesting that most people know in some sense. also the rugwork (what is the art called I dont know TOT) in the back of the video is sweet as hell

this video called me tf out 😭 i might not have tiktok, but i can't sit through a youtube video, movie, tv show (even one that i like, and yes, even this music video (sorry doothi)) without also playing silly little games on my phone or getting up to do something else or pick at my skin. i think a goal for myself is going to be instead of cutting out this double stimulation need all together (which seems unrealistic atm), just shifting it. instead of watching a youtube video and being on my phone, i could try watching a youtube video and doodling or making bracelets or painting my nails or something, you know? somehow that feels less brain-rotty. also, i think some of the appeal of short form content (at least to me) is the idea that i could hypothetically stop or start whenever i want. yes i could put on a tv show, but thirty minutes of something feels like a commitment instead of just being able to scroll through youtube shorts (what if the episode starts boring me? the horrors). instead though, i just end up spending sixty minutes scrolling through less satisfying content. bummer.
@doothi11 ай бұрын
that’s literally the strat 😭 going from consuming multiple forms of content at once to combining consumption with creation (or productive activities) is way less passive and lets you engage in actually satisfying behaviors. please make all the bracelets and do the cutest nails while watching my videos 🥺🫶🏽

The other day i put on an audio book podcast on spotify to help me sleep, because apparently i'm incapable of going two seconds without entertainment. At 3 am i woke up to a completely different audio book, talking about digital detox and how short content is literally frying our brains. since then i keep catching myself mid-reach for the phone to scroll through TikTok or Instagram Reels just to avoid boredom. I realised how important boredom actually is. I need to relearn how to BE bored and to FEEL things because I've been numbing myself with endless entertainment, perceiving boredom as this big scary void that requires me to activate my last to brain cells. I loved this video format a lot. The rug making clips in between are so unique and i really appreciated seeing someone talk about exactly what has been on my mind recently.
@doothi11 ай бұрын
this!!! i wanted to talk a lot more about boredom in this video but it’s so essential to human existence 😭 living our lives trying to evade it will, sure, temporarily push away any existential dread that accompanies boredom, but will also push away the ability to self-reflect and… think 😭

Bro I should be revising for my exams yet you DEMAND my full attention by being too meta CURSE YOU DOOTHI. After finishing, I have notes. 1. Don't let your analytics dictate how you feel about your videos, I know you probably don't but mentioning it in this video made me think. Don't worry Dooth your videos are fantastic and all the effor you put into them is worth it. 2. Don't EVER call your audience the "peter griffin pipers" 3. I am very glad I never took up regularly using tiktok because shortform content is akin to a drug with how addictive it can be to certain people, I don't really understand the appeal if I'm honesty because personally I'd rather watch a 6 hour video on why a show is good than 600 short videos about the next new tiktok trend..

I am very happy i never jumped on the tik tok, Instagram (and so on) trend, my friends think i am weird but i don't feel like going through what you just said in the video... And i like to think that is the reason i still enjoy videos like yours! I learn something, i am entertained, i don't mind it being longer than 10 minutes. You are a very wholesome person which really makes me appreciate your content even more and every video puts me in a good mode (i am going through them all right now even tho i should sleep..). I really like the bits when you talk a comment someone wrote on your videos, i don't know why but it is cosy. tldr; I like your rugs and you make me smile a lot :D

I’ve been contemplating deleting TikTok for a while myself, I have an account with a decent size I guess where I embarrassingly post anime edits but it’s something I genuinely enjoy doing but unfortunately what coincides with posting on there is also having the option to endlessly scroll through garbage. Recently I feel as I’ve been being fed a lot more negativity lately, or I’ve been noticing and engaging in it more that it genuinely messes with my mental attitude to the point where whatever else I’m doing on there when I’m not posting doesn’t even feel worth it. Editing is a hobby I love doing even if I only post once every blue moon, but since I only ever post on occasion the rest of the time I have this app on my phone, it’s usually spent doomscrolling. I hate it and I feel like the only solution is deleting it. I think I’ve sort of repeated myself and I don’t even know where I’m going with this while typing it so I guess that’s all I’ll say about this. Anyway good video brain go brrr
@doothi11 ай бұрын
no but that’s so real… i can’t delete social media cause it’s what i do but having the accounts and apps so readily available inevitably leads to overconsumption and doom scrolling through car crash ig reels and pick me girl tiktoks 😭

I used to have a problem "doom scrolling" on my Inata until I realized I could be getting other things done. (Like school work at the time) So I stopped and became a bit more productive with my time. Until recently 😅 Now short form content is *literally everywhere* so there's no escaping it. And it's all thanks to Tiktok 😑 All social apps have that option now. I'll try not to keep going but time does end up slipping away, despite my perception of it being pretty nonexistant 😂 Yet I still annoy myself because I know it isn't really all my fault. I guess the only way to stay off it is if you're busy enough to not be inside all Day, but some of don't so it's kinda inevitable 😔 Ur editing has gotten way interesting, really digging it :> must take awhile tho huh? I wonder what percentage of people just clicks the interesting video or just starts previewing it on front page to add it to viewing history because of how awful watch later works with forced move to next video after watching. Also, there's another question of how many people are watching videos and quickly start having thoughts like "why am I even watching it"?
