Just to be clear on my end, I have no clue if the bass I show in the video is the correct bass. It is a Fender Precision, but I think the time line is cluttered, there's no way to know. Maybe the Precision was sold to Stills while recording Dressed to Kill. They were both recorded at Electric Lady. It's a lot to figure out.

Knowing the iconic sounds a P-Bass can produce, would be interesting to hear a KISS song played with one.
@stanleybroniszewsky8538
@stanleybroniszewsky8538 Жыл бұрын
True. There's something about the sound of a P-Bass nothing else can produce. The same can be said about Rickenbackers. When session musicians are in a studio playing bass lines for a specific song, the people running the studios prefer them playing a P-Bass. And they also want them using a pick for playing. I've heard this from sources. If all this is true, you just know you will never go wrong owning a P-Bass. I used to own one. I hated playing it - the neck was as thick as the neck on a bull. But the sound was to die for.

In case anybody is curious, $150 back then was actually quite a lot of money. Equivalent to a little over $1000. I bought a 1978 Les Paul custom in 1981 when I was 16 years old for $600 cash. (my own money, by the way, that I earned cutting grass for five neighbors over the years.) That’s a little over $2000 today. Not bad for a 16 year old kid.

My parents both grew up in New York, and you did not spend much time in that city without knowing how to give and take a punch. * - Anyone who sneers at that last entry needs to go actually watch the movie, because it's as bleak and dark as fuck.

@@RockNewsDesk amen my friend. You know how in the documentaries Gene Simmons said things like, you were the outcast because you liked KISS or you got into fights because you liked KISS well I have a couple stories just like that. I got back on here because I had remembered my first time seeing Ozzy Bark at the Moon album that we talked about on your other video and it's not a ground breaking story or anything but just a trip back into history and how things once were. On the back of the school bus one day one of my childhood friends who lived down the road got on the bus and had something he had to show me and in the utmost secrecy! He pulled out of his backpack and cassette and it was Ozzy Osbourne, the remover of animals heads, the demon, the voice of Satan himself dressed like a werewolf monster! I'm sure you remember the big devil worshipping scare of the 1980's and we we're scared to let the grown-ups like the bus driver or any uncool kid see it. And we looked at that cassette in awe the whole ride! His parents were cool as was my mom but we were in the deep south and so many people really believed it was truly satanic. Again I know this isn't much of a story but it's something I've never forgotten. And maybe another reason why it's my favorite album of his.

Gene has also stated that he’s never been in a fight in his life. He said that the closest he got was when he went after Howard Stern in the studio while live on the air in the 90’s when Stern made fun of Eric Carr’s death. The bass…well I know he had at least two made for him. Paul had a “winged” guitar that was an offset “V” like the famous Randy Rhoads models by Jackson. Paul’s was stolen & never seen again. I’ve hear several stories about those bass guitars but never this fight story. Also in the late 70’s there’s pictures of Gene with one of those bass guitars covered in studs.

We were playing a gig at a country pub, that had no stage (very common), so the stage area was defined by the foldback wedges and all the cables. The local football guys decided that picking on the 'faggot' musicians would be fun. This one guy was pegging me as I sang, and came right up to the other side of my mic stand, and stood there, shoulders squared, staring at me, trying to be intimidating, but really, just blocking my view and putting me off my performance. So during the song, I turned the mic sideways and hit him in the face with it. It sort of went like 'Get your motor running', guys lips split open and spray blood, nose bleeds, 'head out on the highway', we didn't miss a beat! Nobody except his mates standing at his shoulders even saw it, he was so close to the 'stage'! An old SM 58 is a pretty solid mic, and I hit him hard, so his mates just shuffled him through the crowd and we didn't see him again. That was the end of the local boys hassling us that night!😁👍

Another great back in the day KISS story. I first saw KISS on 1975 at the Tower theatre in Upper Darby in Philly. Great concert, but when Paul turned his back on the crowd, someone in the first row pulled his pants down. Paul wasn’t wearing any underwear, so the crowd got mooned!

Wanna bet? Peter was one tough SOB. He got into fights a lot. He even said he grew up in a very rough section of Brooklyn. Ace? In his early KISS days he got into a fight at a bar. Some dude smashed the side of his face with a beer mug. Messed it up and Ace needed stitches. There was a group photo shoot later on and they had to superimpose taking the picture of one side of his face and reversing it for the other side. I don't know about anyone else. The least likely may have been Bob or even Bruce.

@@stanleybroniszewsky8538 I've read all of the recent KISS autobiographies, and you are correct, Ace and Peter were both in late 50/early 60s greaser gangs, which fought a lot. Peter was in a young feeder gang for the Mafia, as he was Italian. His surname was Criscuola, and his grandfather barely spoke English. Ace did not like fighting, but was a young Ducky Boy member briefly. Paul had a hell of a time being bullied as one of the only Jewish kids in his neighborhood, in addition to having missing ear on one side. Kids were brutal to him. I didn't know that getting into fights was a sign of being a good person. I've always seen it was the bastion of the stupid, who can't understand basic calculus!

It's a recounting of a story by Gene Simmons, himself. There's no actual video of the event. Just because we don't have video of the Revolutionary War, that doesn't mean we don't make books, videos, and movies about it, and then discuss it.
