@@FishinAccomplished I first actually have to catch keeper fluke or sea bass I am having a terrible time dealing with these dogfish sharks in the sound.

Ha, I had a huge cownose swim under me a few weeks ago. One of those foggy days. I saw the fins/wings from a distance heading toward me I thought it was a big shark, I turned whiter than white and froze like little Michael from Jaws. General Tao’s looks really good. I just added it to my list.

Yeah, those cow noses are all over the place now! Thanks for the comment and definitely check out the recipe!

I've hooked into a couple of those Ray's over the years. It's like bringing in a whale. It can be heartbreaking when you drop what you know is a big one. I like to at least get a look at it.

Yeah, those days sure can fight! A real pain in the butt to get off the hook on the kayak though!

Damn man, I was hurting for you dropping those fish! Too many to be just chance, I don't lose em like that. Is your rod too soft to get a good hookset? Years ago I was dropping porgies with an overly soft rod that I thought would be more fun. It wasn't! Or the hook too big? I pour my jigs with 3-0 usually, and use a 4-0 teaser.

Yeah, I think my hook set game was a bit off this day! With the current being so strong, I find it’s much easier to drop those larger fish, especially if they’re not hooked great/come up weird.

@@FishinAccomplished I've only kayak fished there once, current was a sumbitch, worse than in the Harbor or other nearby areas. If I'm going to pay to cross the Hudson from Jersey City I'm going to the Sound. Only real heartbreaking drop on a big one I've had recently was trying to net it looking into the low sun, couldn't see how close to the surface it was, and it surfaced, flopped, and was gone. Now I bring em to the side away from the sun! I'm also super paranoid about them flopping out of the net, had it happen. I don't unhook a keeper till it's on the clip!
