I seriously doubt there's anything inherently evil about the Darksaber. After all, Sabine was able to wield it perfectly fine after she received training. Heck, if it _was_ evil, Kanan wouldn't have trained her to use the thing in the first place. The problem is the mythical status surrounding the saber, it encourages power-hungry types to go for it.

The Dark Saber is a Jedi artifact in addition to being a Mandalorian one. It would take a Sith like Sidious to corrupt it. The Dark Saber itself is also different than other sabers. Tarre Vizla forged it to be usable by non force sensitives (so it could be passed down along with his armor as per Mandalorian tradition but the Jedi took the saber to bury it in Jedi tradition) which explains why it's a lot more like a sword with a proper edge and has a shorter blade. That also explains why it has weight. A regular saber has no weight except for the hilt which is why it's dangerous for non force sensitives to use as they can easily hurt themselves due to not being able to sense the blade like a force user can. It's also why people like Cad Bane could immediately pick one up and swing it easily (like he did against Obi-Wan). Star Wars is a universe in which guns and nukes are considered primitive weapons. Not many species still use regular, steel swords (I can only think of 2, the Kaleesh and the Dathomirians). So no one would be used to the Dark Saber unless they had some prior training with a sword (which is why Maul is pretty much the only person we see to be able to instantly use it. He's had lightsaber training and his species are among the few that still used steel weapons). It's just a matter of training. As for Moff Gideon, he's had a few years to practice with it or get used to it so it isn't weird to see him somewhat comfortable using it. Din JUST got his hands on it so it makes sense he's not used to it.

Tarre Vizla did not forge it to be wielded by non Force Sensitives. Tarre Vizla and Maul as Force Sensitives had Mastery of the Darksaber, non force sensitives had to go through extensive training to be able to wield it! It was a Jedi Weapon.
@lazydroidproductions10873 жыл бұрын
Well, I don’t think any explicit efforts to make it for non-forceweilders were taken, but philosophically it fits more with Mandalorian than Jedi, though not entirely. And on it having weight, yes and no. In truth I doubt it has weight, but unlike a lightsaber, it seems to have weight to those who fight against it, the more they resist, the heavier it seems, and the harder it is to wield
@wafflingmean44773 жыл бұрын
Sabine specifically says that the blade felt lighter as she begun to connect with it. That was when Kanan antagonised her to embrace her emotions. The blade is designed to work better for people who use their emotions to drive them, hence why Maul faced no resistance at all from the Darksaber. Din is currently conflicted and doesn't even want to acknowledge it, so it fights him.
@HolyknightVader9993 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong. Sabine and Tarre Vizsla were perfectly able to wield it without much issue, and the same went for Darth Maul and Pre Vizsla. Din and Paz just don't have the training to wield it well.

Can't see the Dark Saber as Dark side weapon, I see it as an extension of Tarre Vizsla's legacy and House Vizsla too. The Mandalorians are a complicated group that has been in conflict with the status quo and not always able to find a better resolution to the problem. The New Mandalorians abandoned their legacy much to their detriment and previous Mandalores had a tendency to refuse aid when dealing with tough enemies. The idea of the saber being heavy is symbolic of what conflicts and legacies the Mandalorians will have to resolve before they can reunite and forge a new path, one that will be more difficult due to their insular nature. Unlike the Jedi, they don't have benefit of the force guiding them which can either be good or bad. Darksabre is dark in the sense of uncertainty rather than the Dark side.

To the credit of the Armorer, she still respects their traditions. A truly spineless cur would have taken the Darksaber once it was in their hands, but all she does is inspect it and asks Din if he knows or understands it's significance; she gives it back to Din after their discussion on the matter. I don't think of her as being violent, evil, sadistic, etc. If anything, she demonstrates a lot of discipline, wisdom and historical knowledge. I’m having doubts with the current suggested function of the Darksaber. It widely believed it functions similar to the Elder Wand but that already has so many discrepancies. My thoughts is that the weapon is possessed or in tune with Tar Vizla’s Force Spirit. And he accepts or denies wielders not only for winning duels or combat prowess, but by state of mind and conviction. It was weird Gar Saxon from Rebels was able to use the Saber without any insight or training. Made sense for Sabine since she learned to confront her troubled past. My guess is that both were able to wield the Dark Saber for their own committed ends. Din seems to be a wandering lost soul and Paz is simply a remnant of old Mandalore and clan Vizla. Paz and Din are beholden to the Watch and this lack of autonomy and vision may make Tar Vizla reject them. Tar made this weapon to lead, not follow. A focused mind with a focused goal makes a focused blade. Likewise a weary and chaotic mind makes for a heavy blade.

The Darksabre seems to work better for people who embrace their emotions instead of fighting them. Sabine struggled to wield it in Rebels until Kanan deliberately antagonised her into lashing out, both with the sabre and verbally. It was only when she literally cried about how her family had cast her aside for trying to save Mandalore from the empire that the sabre begun to work. The only other we've seen right after they acquired the sabre was Maul, and he showed no sign of struggle whatsoever, because as a dark sider he uses his emotions to fuel him. Din Djarin currently is conflicted emotionally, but at the same times avoids his issues because he's a warrior who doesn't want to show weakness or lack of focus on his creed. He doesn't know whether or not he wants to leave Grogu with Luke, since he now sees Grogu as a son. He believes he is unworthy to be a Mandalorian for removing his helmet, but at the same time questions this rule since he has seen other supposed Mandalorians like Bo Katan remove theirs. I think it is only once Din Djarin knowingly embraces or resolves this conflict or defines a new creed for himself, that the sabre will begin to work for him. The Forgemaster seemed to imply the same thing.

What if what appears to be the stories of individuals is actually a bigger story? Could it be that there is one overarching story of Mandalore here? The appearance of Din in Boba Fett’s series is further connecting the stories. Boba Fett represents one take on Mandalorian culture, Dan represents another. The appearance of the dark saber as a significant artifact connects to events in and after the clone wars, which connects to... Obi-Wan Kenobi. There is a chance That one story is being told through the experiences and memories of several different characters.

Is the sword having the effect? Or is it in the mind of the weirder? But they didn’t know/care about the legends so they could use it. Din probably feels unworthy, thus can’t wield it effectively… perhaps in Mando season 3 Din finds that pool on Mandalore and does Star wielding it. Similar concept to ritual purification perhaps

The saber is the key to ruling mandalore. It seems logical that in order to master it one must acquire the mindset of a leader. Therefore they mustn't be held back by their past or their guilt. There is an entire episode dedicated to Sabine mastering the saber. Moff Gideon had the saber for years and doesn't seem to be the kind of person held back by their past. Bo Katan is a tough one because we never saw her using it so we can't tell how easy it was forr her. But we can assume she was somewhat competent with it because she had it forr quite some time. In adition to mindset I also think the prroblems come from the fact they are non forrce sensitive. They can't really feel the kyber crystal like a force sensitive can so they must learn to trust it in order to fight with it and not against it. I know non force sensitive have been shown using other lightsabers without inconvinience but since this one is special I believe this explanation works

As he is passed out the robot heals him against his wishes, showing his face that way and if anyone sees him, it wouldnt be his fault or weakness of fear of death and forsake everything he believed. That's why the character is so good and loved, that he is a fanatic in the face of and entire galaxy trying to make him otherwise. It is these little hangups that can kill your character. A man willing to die for his beliefs is much more loved that a man who only desires to live.

Supreme executive power on Mandalore does not derive from some sort of farcical martial ceremony, it comes from a mandate of the Houses! We see this in *Rebels,* where it's more important for Bo-Katan to get the support of the House heads than the Darksaber, and we see it in KOTOR 2, with the would-be Mandalore uniting House Ordo, then claiming that he's going to unite the other Mandalorian Houses. It's also the reason that Gideon says Bo-Katan doesn't need the sword, she needs the *story;* the Darksaber is a royal jewel, an accessory of the Mandalore, with the story of how you got it being more important than whether or not you have it.

There is nothing less “Jedi” than a weapon that must be won in battle and confers status.

I wondered if the dark saber looks the way it does like if it was a red blade that had been purified to white but then someone came along and bled it again turning it completely dark

The saber is a symbol, one that others are willing to follow. Unfortunately, the ones that are willing to take on the danger of earning said symbol and maintaining it does not attract the best people to the position. There is an inherent amount of sociopathy and narcissism in anyone that is willing to challenge a leader, murder them, and take that power for themselves. Approaching it from a more poetic perspective, the darksaber is kind of a representation of neutrality in the dark/light balance. Lacking the joy, and positivity of a bright lightsaber, but also lacking the anger and passion of a sith blade.

Omg so interesting point of view. But why is nobody talking about the symbol we find in the novels? The helmet of mandalor. Revan had to find it after his memory was whipe out and that could unit mandalorians.

The darksaber isn't evil. It is power. And power does not corrupt, it reveals who you are. Also cool note to point out: During filming of a new hope Lucas told everyone to keep two hands on the saber and act like it's something weighty, taking effort to swing. I feel this was a nod to that. It evolved of course, and was meant to show a progression in skill. Anyway, neat.

Welding the dark saber is the same as other light sabers Sabine had to be trained to understand the "weight" and balance of it. The kyber crystal isn't evil itself but has been used by evil ppl thus theres some residual stuff left behind
@dred91742 жыл бұрын
That's not it at all the Darksaber wasn't corrupted but it can only be used by people that aren't being held back by their past since Din is lost between Grogu, his clan and other things.
@The360Goblin3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s just that kyber crystal become lighter or heavier depending on the connection with their wielder and din doesn’t know how to do that. He treats the saber as a weapon and not as a partner. I think it was rebels that explained that kyber crystals are alive and thats why when Sith pour their hatred into them they bleed.

The darksaber glows white. This is very similar to Luke in ROTJ. He wears black, making one think he's turned to the dark side. But when he opens his tunic, his outfit is white. I think the darksaber is running with a similar metaphor, not just with its black blade and white glow, but with its difficulty in welding it. Sabine noted that the blade became lighter when she trained with Kanan. He responded that she was connecting with it. The Armourer said that Mando was fighting against the blade. The difficulty in welding it, then, isn't about ones dark or light side connection, rather, how one works with the blade when fighting with it.
@hardybryan3 жыл бұрын
Meh, I doubt it's evil and I hope it doesn't get destroyed (though I think that's more likely than it being evil). Sabine wouldn't have been able to master it the way she did if it were evil. Her whole training was about finding balance and getting over the terrible things in her past. I do always agree that trial by combat for leadership is just fucking dumb, so to that extent I could see Din destroying the blade to end that tradition. But I could also see him undoing that tradition and giving the saber to Grogu to wield.

I have never noticed a right to succession for mandalorians. Every mandalorian leader except for Satine, had to strongman their way through to unify. Even canderous ordo had fight on numerous occasions to prove his worthiness to be mandalore. There may have clans that favored peaceful succession practices but they probably got wasted by the likes of the vilzas.

The position of the mandalorian leader being dictated by combat predates the darksaber. You have to remember that Mandalorians are a warrior race who covet those who are strong to be those who lead their houses and their people. They're quite literally the Klingons of Star Wars.

The Wakandans didn’t choose their leaders by combat. Certain people could challenge a supposed unfit ruler by combat. It’s funny that someone could think a limited popularity contest with no real test of ability would be such a superior way of selecting a leader

Honestly we saw what free elections do in Star Wars. Having a strong leader figure who has to prove themselves isn’t the worst way to get a leader.

The dark saber literally takes the light around it in order to become dark. …and can only be operated probably when used with intense emotions.
@matthiasneidenberger94712 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Mandolor’s system is more messed up than Wakanda’s because they literally just let them use whatever weapons they want in their duels. So they’re basing all this on an uneven fight that any lesser fighter could win if they just had a weapon the saber’s wielder didn’t know about or were better equipped at that moment.

Is a sword that expects to be used by someone who never expects to be questioned, and focuses their anger to that end. And that's NOT who Din is. But it might be who Boba is...

Sabine just handed the dark saber to Bo Katan and things were fine. Now it's like you got to fight for it to obtain its ownership and to become the Mandalore. That's inconsistent and really stupid.

I don't think the mandalorians would care if the jedi call their leader "dark side" or "evil". They've been enemies and they don't appreciate Jedi philosophy anyways.
