Yup. After Andor, we finally have another show that is willing to break norms, particularly disney norms, and has the quality to back up its ambitions. It‘s obviously very different from Andor, but it does its own thing, and that’s super cool. It reminds me more of the old EU novels and comics, and I‘m here for that. That is some of the best star wars content out there.

Just like in real life, it all depends on where the lightsaber goes through. If it hits something vital, you're done immediately. If it doesn't, like with Qui-Gon after he was stabbed by Maul, death takes a few more minutes resulting in a small window for someone to be safed if there is a healer or the right medical equipment nearby or coming to you just in time before you expire (like was the case with Sabine in "Ahoska").

They cauterize wounds, I'm more confused why everyone gets upset when they don't always killed its not like they hit vital organs 90% of the time. You do realize not *every* organ in the body is vital and as long as you don'e have a gaping hole in the wounds to either your gut, stomach or spine, you *should* survive. And thats how cauturization work, every time someone who *wasn't* a sith survived a lightsaber stab, its been because the wound was never *going* to be fatal. They are stabbed in either the stomach, the gut, of somewhere between the spine and lung, every time its FATAL... has been lungs, chest... or having your head CUT OFF. Do people just lack even basic biology?

Jecki fought with a level of ferocity that was pretty unbecoming of a jedi. Had Qimir taken her prisoner and turned her rather than, ya know, TRIPLE TAPPING her, she could have made for a formidable acolyte The more I think about it the more I wish they would have gone this route rather than just icing her, not least because Dafne Keen gave an excellent performance and was such a natural with the saber choreography, it's a real shame we won't get to see any more of her

One thing the show REALLY needs to do is explain why Ki Adi Mundi is so certain in The Phantom Menace that "the Sith have been extinct for a millennium." Even if he never finds out what specifically happened to all those Jedi, even if he never saw this apparent Sith Lord, it would be really weird for him to not have strong suspicions of Sith involvement. If the show adequately explains it, at least it will (or at least should) silence all the people claiming the show breaks canon or lore. And, BTW, Mundi being alive at this time, 100 years before the Prequels, does NOT break Disney canon/lore!

As clunky as the dialogue has been, the "what type of master hides his face? - You tell me.." line was a pretty slick way to call out that Sol has been masking his dark side. I've really liked the subtle things this show has done to illustrate the failures of the Jedi Order through the flaws of the characters. All of the "I think the Jedi are evil" arguments have shown up in different characters through the first 5 episodes, I think by the end this show will be the supporting evidence for that case.

This might have been the most physically brutal thing Star Wars ever got into Live Action. Murdering Jacky that way is one thing, but that neck snap in full front of the audience? That is something you would expect from John Wick, not from Star Wars and it works in the best way possible in raising the stakes. Also, i agree with some people in the comments that we might be seeing the first steps of Plagueis in the galaxy. Since he is a Muun and we know from Legends that they can reach over 100 years in age, its entirely possible for him to be active here and now, so Qimir might be one of his earlier apprentices or agents. Also, the fact that Osha and Mae were created by using the force is something he would interested in, absolutely. P.S.: And because i cite my sources: The lifespan of the Muuns is mentioned in Rebel Force: Target, according to Wookiepedia.

Sol is pretty much in shock and has too much trauma and guilt to tell the Jedi about Qimir. It’s why he is likely taking “Osha” to Brendock to come clean without even making a report. Sol is also too traumatized and unstable that he pretty much didn’t use the Force to know Mae is “Osha.” Plus, the wording Qimir made is kind of overlooked. He said to Sol that “you would call me a Sith.” He did not say “I am a Sith.” It’s like a racist saying that other people would call him a Nazi (ex. The Boys show’s revelation in Season 2) but he is not saying the Nazis are back. Qimir’s final plan is obvious. He is going to break Sol’s spirit by making Osha his new acolyte and kill Sol. Qimir is likely a retconned version of Darth Venamis (Venom -> Qimir makes a poison in episode 2). I pretty much advise to be skeptical until watching the Season Finale to make an authentic critique for the show. Who know? The show might end with Plagueis killing Qimir and taking Osha to experiment on her for his studies on Midichlorians. Acolyte is a horror mystery story so I expect a horrifying ending and Plagueis making Osha a lab rat is the most terrifying way to end it. What Plagueis did to test subjects like Venamis: “Traveling to Sojourn-a moon owned by Plagueis and maintained as a personal retreat-Venamis was bested in a duel and forced to ingest a coma-bloom, a poisonous species of flora, putting him into a coma. As part of his experiments with midi-chlorians over the following decades, Plagueis and his droid 11-4D kept the comatose Venamis alive to manipulate and study. Around the year 42 BBY, Venamis was eventually allowed to die by Plagueis, his usefulness finally fulfilled. Afterwards, he was resurrected and killed again and again in the presence of 11-4D, as well as Plagueis's apprentice, Darth Sidious, until Venamis' organs finally ceased to function and Plagueis finally allowed the Bith to die for the final time.”

This reviewer is the only one trying to be fair in both criticism and praise. He is right that there are some flaws. But I can't remember being so into SW characters since Andor. It was upsetting losing these two young jedi who weren't masters but were solid characters the viewer had come to be anchored by. It would be tragic if the series showed more serious flaws at this point, because its ambition is greater than the usual Disney series. It definitely isn't coasting on fan service but is going for drama, without even being perfectly cast for that. The right thing to do is to watch it and I'm invested in the surviving characters and hope the daring is met with success. I've blocked dozens of negative, dismissive KZbinrs, many I've watched for years. SO it seems like a Rubicon or watershed SW series, bound to split the fandom for a few years. I'm fairly confident that it will eventually win viewers, but the stakes can still go higher if the rest of the season can match the best episodes so far.

But that also means I have disagree because I don't think they did a good job here. If I was confused, I am pretty sure many others were too. Normally I am not a big fan when shows have to explain everything, or think the viewers don't get what is happening in the plot - like when in Rings of Power they have to put "Mordor" on the screen, so that really everyone gets that this land is now Mordor - but they really catched me off guard when introducing this in the middle of a fight scene and don't explain it. We have not scene anything like this in any life action or animated show ever. The only thing close to it is beskar but we know that beskar does not work that way.

But this episode... ...This episode got me! It's what you wait for and then when it hits you (true story) yell out loud THATS WHY WE LOVE STAR WARS! The choreography was definitely high level. Out of the box use of force power and swordsmanship was inspiring. And even knowing who "the master" was from literally ep 1, it was still a cool reveal. I really agree with everyone saying they should have released it all at once. Even though I don't feel it would have made a difference for everyone who's set on hating it, it might have swayed a few more to seeing it's not braking anything, and it's not the franchise slayer it's being made out to be. I almost wonder if a series stated like this.. would it have been better received from the premier?

Villain motives are important, and Qimir's montives play into the themes of the show. His motive is that he doesn't like the uptight rules of the jedi. It shows how extreme they are about not attacking. The police will pull their guns out on an apparently unarmed citizen just in case. On top of that, a Force user is never truly unarmed. Their own mind is a weapon. You have to fight them until they are disabled or killed.

Maybe the mob does not like it for legit reasons? Ki-Adi Mundi being aware of someone going around killing jedi (and now more have been killed)/the high council not being told of it during a time of peace/whatever in the world Episode 3 was and the creation of life cheapening Anakin. Jedi went from being a mostly invicible order that were only to be taken down after 1000 years of careful planning by the Sith to someone who might not even be a Sith cutting them down like butter. @@eddiemelville5576high council wasn't told cuz the order is corrupt leading to their downfall although that's prob a stretch. Ki adi mundi doesn't just assume he's sith. Every force user on the galaxy doesn't have to be just Jedi/sith so his prequel line is valid. Regular Jedi knights were rather weak compared to high council members, so a sith apprentice or lord killing them wasn't too shocking. Plus they barely killed 10 Jedi, not anywhere near toppling the order. Anakin specialty, even if it is lore breaking, isn't ruined as I don't see how this would unbalance the force. The force created Anakin because of the unbalance created by plagueis while the twins were created through dark magic. I would assume the force wasn't unbalanced because they were twins, one dark one light. I get complaining about the story but please use some sense when talking about the lore

Do you think this character is an actual Sith Apprentice or more like the title would suggest...a dark side acolyte or dark side user? Still surprised by the level of power Qimir. has personally ("They fly now?") but I think the element of surprise is plausible considering these jedi probably didn't think they would be encountering a sith-like combatant

As great as this fight scene is it does nothing to justify the poor writing. I’d give the episode a 5/10 with 3 of those points being the fight itself, but the show so far remains at a 2/10 for me.

completely agree. they're the weakest part of the whole show. even now moving forward the fact that the mae/osha plot relies on them being *perfectly identical* is cringe. this show had some really cool ideas and features solid performances, but it's gonna take a miracle to offset what feels like a flaw in its very foundation.

I also think that the rating would be higher if the marketing and interviews didn’t upset the dude bro fans.

Those complaining about the complainers obviously were not around when the same thing happened with those of us that grew up loving the Prequels. At the end of the day, it's stupid to say "Well you just aren't a true Star Wars fan if you don't like it." We each have our own reasons for why we may or may not like the Acolyte or any Star Wars content. Personally, I haven't liked much of what Disney has produced outside of Mando seasons 1 and 2, Rogue One, certain aspects of Ahsoka, and Andor. George Lucas and those closer to his vision like James Luceno win the day for me.

material have its owned weakness...its very brittle when it can shatter like glass by amount of abuse it get from fight...and his brace got broken after so many uses ...while helmet still survive but not long ...also Beskar does very little in defense from saber attacks, its why sith rather have more cortosis ...a whole lot of it , but that is very hard to find and get huge quantity that many miners died to get it to produce just tiny amount.

Many people watching this right now are so high on Disney hate and so entrenched in the social/political discourse around it that they can’t really acknowledge their own confirmation bias and allow themselves to at least enjoy some parts of the show. This is also yet another Star Wars series that would have really benefited from being released all at once. It would have prevented the weekly hate from being farmed, at the least.

I agree that this should have been released all at once, could have benefited from being able to see what all this is building too. Unfortunately Mae's sudden flip-flops just make her seem really confusing. "I'll turn myself into the Jedi", then she fights off the Jedi she wanted to surrender too, "Osha is all that matters" but then leaves her behind in the forest. I really hope there's a decent payoff.

@@Enigma75614 it’s definitely got its problems, but people are also on hyperbolic overdrive for every little thing. I get that people are frustrated, but it’s like mental self-flagellation to go into this looking for everything that’s wrong about it rather than trying to enjoy what can be enjoyable and criticizing what should be critiqued.

I’m late to the video but I’m convinced Sol won’t even make it back to Coruscant. Based on the trailers and what scenes we have left, something happens that prevents him from making it back to the Jedi Temple.

The reveal was obvious but the execution of the duels was fantastic. It absolutely makes sense how he was able to decimate the jedi. This show is not without its faults but the hate its getting is crazy. no one hates star wars a much as star wars "fans."

All the bad reviews are cause so many bots, if the reviews are true and honest from real people, then The Acolyte must have about 2-3 times the viewership of all 3 seasons of The Mandalorian COMBINED, and I highly doubt that, the sheer number of reviews being submitted is astronomical in comparison to ALL other Star Wars shows, The reviews need to be looked over manually and proof given if I am to ever believe Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB again.

I think it could just be the negative reaction to it. For example every semester my uni will send out a survey for students to fill out about how they thought the course went. Generally those who have a great experience will fill it out and those that have a bad experience will fill it out. Those that have an ok to average experience won't fill it out due to finding it ok and therefore not needing a response. Therefore if a certain subsection views something negatively it results in the negative outcome.

@thegreatsnowblizzard3196 um, Obi-Wan, Ashoka and Book of Boba Fett had around 5,000 total reviews each, each season or mandalorian around 8,500 each average, and The Acolyte (which isn't even finished), has nearly 30,000, those numbers don't look fishy to you?

@@Chew_bacca1138 like I said reviews are mostly done out of passion. I mostly think because of how divisive the discourse has been I feel like a higher percentage of the fanbase that normally would have just let it be decided to give it a negative review. I think it's important to clarify that my response is to "all bad reviews are bots" as personally I disagree with that statement.

Why are so many people calling plot holes and bad storytelling when there is still quite a few episodes of the show. If 1 episode killed off a dozen Jedi and 2 main and liked characters how can we tell what will happen next. Some people are calling bad storytelling for sol not noticing the twin switch we have quite literally seen like 2 scenes (about 2 minutes in total), so why don’t we wait until the next episode is released to be judgemental about wether or not sol should have noticed.
