Another nice thing about the Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier is that it can actually house the TIEs that are being ferried around by the Gozanti-class and Arquitens-class light cruisers. In the hanger bays they have the space to do all of the maintenance and repair needed to keep all the TIEs in the patrol fleet up and running. I can imagine some of the Gozanti-class cruisers used their outsized cargo capacity to keep the other ships supplied on longer patrols as well. These three ships are very complementary.

Yes I do, and I have simple theory to explain this complete 180 change in character, the plan was never Palpatine's plan, it was his master Darth Plagueis's plan... worse Palpatine killed Plagueis before Plagueis told him what happened after the forming the Empire or even tell Palpatine the finer details of the plan, because when he saw Plagueis creating Anakin, he saw it as threat meant to replace him. I mean if you re-watch episodes 1, 2 and the Clone Wars know knowing Palpatine's the bad guy, you can see he's completely unstable and just barely holding his façade together, he's at his most natural when he's Sidious being cruel and vindictive, he's actually pretty uncomfortable being Palpatine except when he's manipulating people... I'll bet Plagueis's complete plan was better, smarter and vastly more subtle than Palpatine's ham-fisted attempts. At least that my theory.

In the meantime I came up with a solution involving a modernized Gozanti, 2 RZ1's, and a homemade shuttle that I came up with. It could patrol 6 systems at a time with the shuttles operating in pairs non-stop, while the Gozanti with it's 2 RZ1 would patrol a 7th. Each of the 7 groups would operate mostly independently but would periodically make scheduled refueling roundezvous with the Gozanti.

The post Refermation Republic should have mass produced medium cruisers for planetary defence fleets, to take advantage of economies of scale. Planetary fleets can buy them at a subsidised cost or they can be assigned, or a mixture of both systems - with careful bookkeeping to prevent them being onsold to pirates ect. That would enable a vast amount of practical mid sized military ships to be available to patrol the regions outside the Core. In effect they become like police cars bought by departments from a manufacturer with a standardised design. It is definitely a lot cheaper and more practical than every police department having to commission their own squad car designs. Except they are also the local Coast Guard. And in times of war they can be requisitioned to join as a form of GAR. But in day to day operations they are the patrol fleet of a inhabited system, owned and operated by that systems government. A from the ground up Galactic Navy, instead of top down. Like if the Galaxy Fleet all bought from the same lot with a package deal.
@p_serdiuk6 ай бұрын
The majority of a spaceship's costs aren't in the initial procurement, they are in maintenance and supply. So systems just bought whatever they could afford to maintain and whatever had available parts. Creating artificial monopolies through government spending is a bad idea.

What about when one of those planetary militias turns Separatist? They'd begin the conflict with an intimate understanding of the GAR's available arsenal and the ability to capture and use GAR assets. Plus when the various militias are called up to serve, there's a risk of major political friction regarding command structures, for example between systems that have paid for their own assets but use them poorly and systems whose defense is heavily subsidized but they use their forces extremely well. There's definitely merit to the idea, but its a trade off. That said, its definitely better than having no standing army, and no regional defense support. Personally, I see Star Citizen's system of Militia and Standing Navy to be a bit more elegant. You use the same economies of scale, but regional militias aren't buying the *exact* same ship, they're buying Peacekeeper and Civilian variants of the same hull, usually just missing a few weapon hardpoints or military exclusive systems, and both forces are meant to exist in tandem, focusing on different priorities that their variant classes each cater towards.
@casbot714 ай бұрын
*Interesting points in the replies.* As for the ship running cost and the risk of systems going rogue, that's where a standardised design is helpful. _Logistics._ The Core Republic will be supplying spares and munitions to all the PDFs _at a low cost_ due to economies of scale and with a large standing inventory to meet sudden demand. As well any emergency shortages can be dealt with by cannibalising a damaged ship for needed spare parts. That's an advantage of having a common standard design. In order to make supply lanes shorter, common spares can be built at hubs strategically placed on major hyperspace lanes in "reliable" highly developed systems. Also, systems that aren't up to scratch can get trainers and so on sent to them to help get them into shape. [And keep an eye on them.] As for systems going rogue, how are they going to get their spares and replacement ships? They would have to set up their own production lines, which would take time. And probably be noticed. It is a useful political safeguard as it sets up a dependency on the Republics manufacturing base and its shipyards. Now, if a system is under threat or just needs strengthening, to deal with a situation, the GAR can send a task force that can use local facilities due to interoperability. The GAR can keep a few rapid reaction task groups on standby to deal with sudden crises. They can even be modified with the fastest _reliable_ hyperdrives available (no millennium falcon overclocking). As well as a larger number of the standard spec ships that just keep the Core systems safe. That is an advantage the central Republic can maintain. They can have some better, more expensive versions of the standard design, a bit like how there is an export version and a domestic version of some US military gear (particularly Fighters). As for the core fleet, the GAR can have some larger ships that they keep for themselves as heavy hitters for a war, not a patrol ship. So only the Core Fleet has Star Destroyers, but the other systems can get frigates, corvettes, snubfighters, etc. And what Outer Rim system could afford the cost and upkeep of a few Star Destroyers? It still gives the Core GAR a edge, and gives the client States a far better PDF than they would otherwise be able to get going it alone. And if they are in serious trouble, they can request reinforcements fast. Reinforcements that can slot right in with their own fleets. If it's a major threat, then a GAR battlefleet with, for example, a few Star Destroyers and big carriers with class 1 hyperdrives, along with a screening fleet, ready to overkill the threat. Large displays of power can resolve issues before they grow out of control. Think of it like a US Navy carrier group, if one of those is parked off your coastline, it is a strong message. Especially if it's doing joint patrols with that neighbour of yours you've been playing brinkmanship with. Now I can see one issue is that some species won't be able to use a standard ship designed for humans. But they can have modified versions made for them that are still going to be cheaper and more refined than anything they could produce or acquire by themself. If they're smaller than humans, that's a simple modification. Their ships might even have better performance due to less space and mass having to be dedicated to crew. Now, species that are bigger may have a few issues. A snubfighter for Wookies or Besalisk is going to have lower performance. They could, however, subcontract smaller species to be snubfighter pilots. As a safety measure, have a mix of human, T'wilek, and other common standard size species pilots, so they aren't dependent on one aligned group to be their fighter pilots. And their larger ships can still be crewed by their own species, a Wookie crewed gunship is still formidable. With the massive economy and manufacturing available to the GAR, they could have a bunch of standard models available for "Client States" and members, not just one space superiority snubfighter, one patrol frigate ect. And off the shelf versions for a variety of species sizes. But no systems or even group of systems could defeat a Sector fleet from the Core Worlds. But they could eliminate any pirate fleet that is causing trouble.
@p_serdiuk4 ай бұрын
@@casbot71 The overall problem with this paradigm is that private enterprises are better motivated to innovate and meet the actual evolving demands of their clients than large government institutions, and when you have a system where there are large government enterprises producing cheap standard designs leveraging the economy of scale, as well as smaller private enterprises that offer ships more tailored to specific needs or that are modified and upgraded more frequently because it is easier to retool a smaller factory with its specific supply chain to produce a newer model than it is to retool a big number of large factories spread across the entire Galaxy that each have their own supply chains, you get the same picture that already exists in Star Wars. Planetary defense fleets that consist mostly of several widespread and available designs, plus some ships that are produced locally that are more tailored to the environment and needs of that specific sector.

The government was able to: pay their soldiers and put them to peacetime work, with the funds they'd use for creating a new colony. Furthermore, you'd have a colony populated by trained soldiers. Who'd defend their new home at no extra cost to the state. Which would otherwise have needed to afford a garrison. Plus, you be able to recruit capable soldiers from these towns. New territory secured and developed while ensuring old soldiers don't become bandits or help a rival overthrow you.

The Gladiator class was the smaller, more reasonably priced Star Destroyer that was relegated to Outer Rim patrol duty. Personally I think the Gladiator would have made a fantastic baseline ship for the Empire, it is one of their most well-balanced designs.

I would like to see all three "cruisers" of the Imperial "Gunboat" Navy in service of the New Republic, the Light Cruiser was great in Mando, and the ideal "big flagship" for a small power like Mandolore.

I'd love a Gozanti class cruiser kitted with 2 TIE Fighters and 2 AT-ST Walkers.

The Imperial Navy was either designed to refight the Clone War but do it better or, in Legends, to prepare to fight the Yuzang Vong. The problem was that the Navy was mismatched for the tasks it was assigned.

*Italian voice* Gozanti🤌🤌🤌 ze stronga arma of ze empire! Edit: now if they had kept the acclamator and upgraded it as much as they did with the arquettins(sp?) And the gozanti they wouldn't have much need for the gigantic death doritos.

Hmmm... were I looking to field a space navy in star wars and I was limited to smaller sized ships for ability to mass produce fast and cheap... I would field the following types s a balanced fleet in task force groups: 900m+ (Destroyer) - Imperial Victory class (in this case, use as a sector command ship, only one per task force) 650m to 900m (Heavy Cruiser) - Imperial Gladiator class (if thought could make it make sense, would replace possibly with a Harrower Dreadnought) 400m to 650m (Cruiser) - Imperial Vindicator class - Imperial Immobilizer class 200m to 400m (Frigate) - Imperial Vigil class - Imperial Escort class (fan design by JBJHJM) 100m to 200m (Corvette) - Imperial Customs class (Militarized) - Imperial Raider II class Under 100m (Fighters/Gun Ships) - Imperial Intersector class - Imperial Missile Boat mk I class (not the fan refit for a mod, the original variant from the game) - Imperial Fighter (Fan design by Encho EnchevPro) (Miscellaneous smaller units) - Imperial Kappa class Shuttle (I prefer the smaller profile older design) - Imperial Troop Transport class LAAVi (a fan design by RoadWarrierZ44) - Imperial Sabre class Tank - Imperial Troop class Troop Transport - Imperial Korrealis KL-9Z-SE class Speeder Car - Imperial 614-AvA class Speeder Bike - SnowSpeeder

So, out of curiosity, which of these would be great boarding vessels? Id say the Gazantte due too how cheap it is but would a Boarding Vessel configuration of the arquentins be good too?

You know something I ocasionally think of in starwars terms is what the empire should have been using to hunt down rebels instead squardrons of 3 or 4 stardestroyers, and what that comes down to is something like a squadron of 1 or 2 star destroyers as command ships with teeth, then at least 2 fully loaded venators for fighters support and bombing runs, finally an interdictor cruiser or 2, and at least 2 arquintens cruisers for every one of those larger ships to deal with the massive investment the rebels have in strike fighters. That way you can have a tight little squadron that can go around dealing with potentially very large rebel groups left right and center instead of sending inumerable amounts of resources in the form of star destroyers and death stars with 0 point defence that just get poped by a garbage scow full of explosives ramming the bridge. Edit. I suppose I can ammend that fleet mix to replace a quarter of those arquintens cruisers with about 20-30 gizanti cruisers, half of which would be scouts equipped with tie defenders and the other half would be ground support equipped with AT-TEs for that matter I would want all my tie fighters to be defender or at least intereceptor class rather than the standard styrofoam block class.

I can't say I even really like Star Wars anymore. That isn't to say I don't think fondly about some of it (original trilogy, kotor 1-2, republic commando, to name some). But I don't care about the last 15 years or so worth of stuff and have no desire to revisit anything from the franchise at all. Yet for some reason I still sit here watching SW videos from this guy alone. (well, if sacred cow shipyards does a video on SW stuff, i'll watch that too, but he talks about a lot more than just SW)

I've been a follower of GenerationTech for quite a while. Alan has a very inviting personality. Not to mention, he knows his sh@t when it comes to Star Wars. This is my very 1st post. It's more like a question. Some would say a very stupid question. What's the difference between Canon and Legends?? Thank you in advance for not making fun of me.

Generation Tech: Smaller ships does show a thought process in writting. Smaller ships is going to be faster from a technological point of view. The Rebel Alliance being able to do surgical strikes, and speed is immportant. Why bring an entire armada when a couple C4 devices, completes the mission. The empire proved too much reliance on larger ships, with severe weak points. one thing i dislike is blastable bits on the outerhull. I have a really good idea, lets place Ammo, and plasma storage containers over our armor. The Starwars Rebels is lucky, i am not doing the planning for the Imperial war machine. Hint: The DeathStar would not have majical vents. I would have little baseball sized projectiles, Silent but once going off, your fighters is not coming back.

if only Palpatine saw more than a "symbol" to the venators the rebels would have a harder time to deal with the empire. but ofcourse Palps wants big laser and big trigualar ships instead of investing more on starfighters, frigates and cruisers

There were plenty of Outerim worlds loyal to the empire. And the ones that weren’t were usually suppressed fairly easily cause many didn’t have extremely militarized worlds. A few months of a complain and the war on that would was pretty much over. Just look at mocala. It took like 1 day for the empire to conquer It and it had a huge fleet on it.

1v1 just the ships would go to the ISD. If each one wielded its full complement of available weapons and craft then the ISD wouldn't even land a shot on the Venator. V-wings would screen out the TIEs and then the ISD gets hit with multiple bombing runs.
