It's part of the lore - Tartaglia/Childe says that the bow is his worst weapon. I haven't played him in a while but I think he either kicks his last arrow in the combo or launches it with the bow acting as a spear launcher. It really is made bad on purpose.

I mean if you get magic arrows and can make arrows just by pulling the string, you can do a lot of creative stuff. The archer's posture does also include the reloading of arrows. I bet if we got this magic, some archers would just go brr pulling the bowstring, and the posture is only for long ranged shots. Or maybe there would actually be more detailed study on archery postures and close range fighting style which would be very different than long ranged shooting.

I do hear that Hoyo has done quite a lot of research on archery and most of the bow attack animations are based on real-life shooting poses from cultures all over the world (Chinese, Mediterranean, etc), with extra dramatic fancy movements when the arrow is released. Taking into account that this is a genre that's not trying to look realistic at all I think building on real-life and adding fancy exaggerations was a pretty nice way to create the eye-catching fancy and, of course, add on to the personality of the characters (including deliberately making the character shoot with poor and weird pose).

he's not bad at using a bow, he's just not as good with it as other weapons, which is why he prefers to use it, he likes the fight and not the victory

The odd stance is actually because of an animation change that was done around the 2.x patches. All of the archers actually had unique draw animations and varied the arrow placement on the bow. Amber's draw was seemingly modeled off of Manchu style archery, likely from her wanting to become a ranger like her grandfather, who immigrated from the "China" region of Genshin. There's often a slight forward posture instead of being totally sideways, and the string would be drawn well past the ear making up for the lack of power you believe it to have. At some point they changed it so that the only archer that shoots on the right side of the bow is Sara and simply changed the arrow positions on everybody else's aimed shots while leaving the rest of the position the same. You can even still see who shot on what style based on the follow throughs they use on their first shots on normal attacks. For a while, Yoimiya shot from the right side of the bow during charge shot, and when they altered the animation the fireball would be on the opposite side of the arrow. If you sift through older youtube videos about the shooting styles in genshin, or old reddit threads, there was a lot of discussion about them early on.

Oh wait so I wasn't crazy when I noticed that Amber's CA holding animation looked different from before! The animation on her corset-lacing thing always bothered me before but when I used her again for something awhile back, I noticed that it wasn't as bad as I remembered! :0 I wondered if it was a part of the 'censor' patches but good to know it actually happened and that I'm not hallucinating haha

Though it's odd they changed Yoimiya's since she's from the same place and obviously shoots in a similar style when you watch their attack animations for the first attack.

Yeah, I started a completely F2P game where I'm not wishing until AR45. I've been using only the free characters (+the pulls on the beginner banner, where I got Noelle & Xiangling) and I've just started the Dainsleif quest. If you don't want to spend, it's totally playable and fun. (On my main I have pretty much everyone, including C4 Zhongli, so a F2P account like this is way different)

It mostly gets a lot of shit for being a gacha game, though. Pretty much everyone in my circle hates microtransactions, so Genshin is a bit frustrating for us, but we all recognize that the gameplay, animations, art, etc are all fantastic.

Just to clear some confusion, while Genshin doesn't have a dedicated dodge mechanic, dashing (tapping the sprint button) doubles as dodging if you time it right, allowing you to avoid damage. Also would really love to see you tackle Childe's AKA Tartaglia's bowmanship.

@@blumineck It'll take a while to gather the 5* archers, since it's a gacha and you don't unlock everyone just by progressing. Luckily, there are times when you can get free characters through events and other things -- like Collei, who's an archer with similar mechanics to Amber.

One cool thing about Genshin is that you can clear 99% of the content comfortably without spending a dime, and can clear the last 1% with some dedicated grinding while still not spending anything. Another is that their in-game promotions are practically zero, there are no intrusive ads that slap you in the face whenever you login or open the menu. It's quite friendly to casual and free players

I never understood why this is important. I don't go around thinking, man I hope this game is really long, so why does it matter if the wall is at 50% or 90% of the way in. Like what's the difference between a 4 hour game to a 12 hour game with a wall at the 33% mark? The game is free after all so it's not like being longer gets you more bang for your buck, if it's fun it's fun for as long as it lasts

Yeah like people say its "p2w" but the only content that really uses any money is abyss and some events (even then the complicated parts of the events have shit rewards so its more for the fun) And even then op f2p team comps like Hyperbloom exist, you only need like 3 limited 5 stars to complete most of the content 💀 Although, some of the 5 stars are pretty insane, like Nahida or Kazuha or even Yelan But like 4 of the most op 4 stars in the game are free on the shop 😭 Xingqiu, Xiangling, Bennett, Fischl Those 4 are prob enough to make an abyss team (and a strong one at that), THE TEAM THAT IS CONSIDERED THE BEST TEAM EVER IS LITERALLY 2 FREE 4 STARS, AND CHILDE 😭 and even then the sucrose variant is more than enough to do abyss and that variant is 3 free 4 stars and 1 harder to get 4 star but sucrose is still easy to get Straight up people who say its p2w because it has gacha know nothing 💀

I absolutely *adore* how much there is to explore, all the fun little things to find, the mechanisms and puzzles that aren't just "kill x mobs", and so on. Personally, I've enjoyed Sumeru WAY more than Inazuma (which honestly, I've kinda pushed aside once I finished the main Archon and world quests). And I think that's actually part of WHY Genshin is so popular - because it has something for almost every playstyle.

The spinning thing that Amber does could be used as an evasive step when you’re in battle. Also, I can’t wait for Venti’s (8 shots in a combo, with charged shots able to shoot 3 arrows at C1), Yelan’s (can shoot with her feet), and Childe’s (can throw an arrow like a spear with the same strength as a bow shot) archery styles to be discussed!

If you wanted to see the animations of all the different bow characters without spending a great deal of time (and possibly money) to unlock them all, you can find them all on the fandom wiki- if you go to the character's page and scroll down to their talents, you can click the preview drop-down and there will be a window that shows off their animations. I'm sure there's also videos of like. Animation showcases and such floating around on the internet- might be a useful resource if you wanted to review more of the game's archers! Personally, I find myself tending to be a bit disappointed that most of the bow characters tend to be more "Switch to this character, use their abilities, and then switch to a different character right after" than actually designed around using their bow in combat- even with the characters that DO use their bow as their main thing, most of them are designed to use the same very basic aimed shot animation more than their uncharged attacks, with Yoimiya being kind of the only exception- and maybe Aloy, but she's her own kind of weird. All the characters have delightful animations on their non-aimed shots (I am a particular fan of Fischl and her two separate breaks for laughter between shots- wonderful, every time) but so few of them actually have a reason to use them. It's kind of sad. But what's definitely good about them all- and the game's archery as a whole- is how it manages to convey a character's personality through their archery. All too often in games, shows, and... well, kind of everything, I see archery being very uniform and generic- pull string back, fire arrow, repeat ad nauseam- and seeing how every individual bow character in this game has their own, distinct way of shooting- it's very refreshing. There are even small differences in their aimed shot animations- Kujou Sara and Yelan hold their bows completely vertical, unlike most characters who hold their bow tilted at a slight angle, Tartaglia holds his bow at a very rigid 45 degree angle, and Tighnari, Venti, and Gorou hold their bows horizontally. It's little details like that which really make the archery in Genshin Impact feel as good as it does- and I can't wait to see how they continue it with the next patch's new bow character, Lyney! His stage magician concept has SO MUCH potential for fun, flashy archery.

Based for that Venti ending, he’s my favourite character. He does that unique sideways shot that you’ve mentioned in other videos and can do a triple multi shot at C1 if you’re willing to fork over the cash/time to grind for primogems. Also, damn, throwing those arrows up in the air actually replicated the Amber attack really well. Though I agree that Ember would be a good name for her, her name is Amber.

In legend of Zelda you can shoot arrows through fire in order to set things on fire. How practical is this? What about in games like tomb raider where you shoot an arrow with rope in order to use as a zipline? Are bows even capable of generating that much penetrative power to support a fully grown human?

As for the setting on fire thingy, that would be quite a bit impossible to do without prior setting things up. There's mainly three ideally controllable variables here. The energy of the flame, the flammability of the arrowhead and the duration/distance for which the arrow travels through the flame. The latter one is not very ideal since a flying arrow is very susceptible to getting knocked off its aim due to the winds being generated by the long distance of the fires. Also, you don't want charred wood to try to pierce flesh, no matter how hot it is. The energy of the flame would be the next one to get knocked off the list since it pretty much will have the same effect as above except where the arrow is gradually pushed out of it's target trajectory, the high intensity of the flame and the winds for a very short duration of exposure won't cause as much of a shift as the former will. Heck, if some feathers survive the blast of heat, the arrow might even return to its original trajectory after being blasted off due to aerodynamics. This is very much debatable though. Then there's the flammability of the arrow itself, which is most desirable. Just marinate them in some highly flammable substance and you've got a beautiful streak of a flaming arrow in the beautiful night sky. Unfortunately, I can't recall learning about any substance that can be extremely flammable and not be as volatile as alcohol and petrol and stuff so that it doesn't vapourize or burn out mid flight. I’d love to see this become a series, where you analyze and try to recreate archery animations from games. I’d love to hear how well the Horizon games, or perhaps the Zelda games represent archery. Maybe Ghost of Tsushima and God of War too, there are a ton of games. All with different archery styles, and they all differ in how well they represent it. I’d love to hear more about that

Loved the video!! I have a love for the archers in genshin, with Amber in particular being my favourite. One method of playing her in game involves holding down attack until you start to aim and then immediately releasing and shooting the arrow. Sort of a speed shooting in game, you kinda lose a bit of control and really need to be quick with aiming, but you can unlease a very quick volley of arrows! My favorite mechanics though for archer characters in game is anything that lets you unlease those aimed charged shots quicker. So far, there are two characters that do so. Faruzan who is a wind magic user, instead of fire, lets you do a quick charged shot after using her skill, as does the boe user Tighnari, whose skill lets you do 3 really quick charged shots. The other chsracters i find just take so long to charge up that its not as fun or quick paced

There are different aimed shot stances for different character model types as well! For example, the young male bow characters (like Venti) do that thing where you shoot while holding the bow in a horizontal position. I love that they added that variety!

The animations for normal attacks of characters, although you don't get to use them that often later in the game, were what glued me into the game! They are so cool and interesting and fun to look at. There are two characters, Lyney and Fischl, that have very unique animations during their attacks. Lyney changes into some card tricks and Fischl does very cool poses (the ending you get is based on which combo number you end it at!).

I seem to recall a technique known as cloud shooting where the archer(s) would aim for a spot in the sky in order to make shots at over 300 meters, which strike their targets as if they fell from directly above. The Mongols took it to the next level with their banshee arrows, which, when launched by the hundreds sounded like unearthly hordes and had the added benefit of unnerving men and horses alike.

A joy that I found this on Amber’s birthday. Have you seen Fire Emblem Three Houses’s archery tricks? Some character leap up in the air, shoot an arrow, and the “recoil”? makes them do a double-jump higher into the air.

there is a dodge in the form of the dash/sprint actually gives you s, but its a bit clunky compared to some other games with dodges. You'd probably like Yoimiya and Fischl, they have fun playstyles with their bow

I'm something of a sword geek, and one of the things I've been really impressed with genshin is the accuracy of sword stances (well, except Kaeya and Benny, lol). But I've been curious about how the other weapons measure up, especially the bow characters (I tend to main Amber, even though I don't know much about real-life archery).

oh my god another addition to the amber mains!!! I actually did some frame by frame calculation for how fast amber can shoot with maximum investment and player skill. I'll add it here if you're interested: If you hold down attack for a charge shot and release it early, it does a quick physical shot. This is faster than just spamming attack for normal physical shots (like for her combo, as you called it) and, if you cancel the animation, you can shoot a lot of arrows. Amber also has a constellation, her c1, that lets her shoot 2 arrows for every aimed shot. With both the animation canceling technique and c1, Amber can shoot at a staggering pace of .22 seconds per arrow. That's _nearly_ 5 arrows per second!!! (If you wanna see a showcase of this, search up "fastest physical amber solo speedrun raiden" on yt and choose the shortest video) anyways, sorry for the infodump :) ik I haven't commented before but I've been watching your videos for a while and I loove the content! hope you have fun if you keep playing the game (it's my favorite)

It's mostly just training and repetition. I tried a whole bunch of different speed shooting styles, and I stuck with the one that I liked the most! It's not the fastest per se, but it works for what I do
