Excellent content as always! Some bonus tips from someone who works in optical... 1. Tint does not equal UV protection. Clear, non-tinted lenses can (and should ALWAYS) have UV protection, and cheap tinted lenses probably won't have any UV protection. Cataracts, macular degeneration and a number of other ocular diseases are worsened or have earlier onset with UV exposure. 2. If you want to get prescription lenses and have a high prescription (high + or -), ask for the highest index possible/that you can afford. The higher the index, the thinner and lighter the lens (for the prescription). This is especially important for larger frames (aviator, wayfarer styles), since heavy lenses can cause your glasses to become front-heavy and slide down your nose all the time. 3. LCD screens are hard to read with polarized lenses due to how the lenses filter light, this does not occur with tinted lenses, so consider whether or not you will need to frequently use phones and other devices (computers, restaurant menus) while wearing glasses. 4. Provided the frame is not excessively large or small, most opticians can adjust glasses purchased elsewhere (for a fee) to fit you perfect. So if there is a pair you love and it's just a little off, loose, askew, it may be something that can be fixed. Thank you for coming to my comment section TedTalk :)

Great to see the OP Cary Grants make an appearance, they are beautiful, and the packaging (especially the suede case) is amazing. They also do a great wayfarer style too in the Oliver and the Ollis. The Oliver collaboration with Brunello Cucinelli with the Olive smoke frames is frankly a work or art.

Excellent recommendations as usual. Please remember that photochromic (“Transitions”) lenses may not darken inside a car, because the windscreen glass will stop the UV parts of the light. I use a fixed-tint pair of prescription sunglasses for driving. Polarising lenses are available as fixed tint prescriptions - my all round favourite shades.

I always enjoy picking up vintage or antique glasses at flea markets or antique stores; you can find often them for less than ten dollars. Then I take them to an optical shop to have nonprescription, tinted lenses put in. Around me new nonprescription lenses only cost $50. Much cheaper than a set of modern glasses, and often better made!

Been collecting seriously since 2006. I’ve moved away from Luxottica to independent makers now, and love the variety. I’d say I’m most partial to titanium and cotton acetate frames, with glass or left field lense choices. Once you’ve been collecting for a while, you realise it’s a much of a muchness at the high end market, and often it’s the story sold that clinches it.

@gengator4543 Жыл бұрын
Not to tear this video apart too much, because I realize it’s older and this is a general menswear channel rather than an eyewear channel, but for anyone who has read this long keep these things in mind: 1. Rather than buy all the Luxottica frames featured here, do a bit of research and buy from handmade independent brands that are much better quality and will only run you a few extra $’s. Ex: Barton Perreira, Cutler and Gross, Jacques Marie Mage, Mr. Leight, Alhem, Lucas de Stäel, Lesca Lunetier, Matsuda, etc… 2. There are man types of photochromic lenses other than Transition Gen 1-8 that do different things. Look at different lens brands such as Hoya, Shamir, Zeiss, etc… and look at the many types of photochromic lenses they carry to see what best fits your daily needs. 3. Already mentioned, but tint nor polarization = Any UV Protection at all. Certified lenses such as Zeiss, Essilor, Hoya, etc… should provide 100% UVA, UVB, and UVC no matter what tints or coatings are applied to the lens. So rather than fret over darkness, do some research and understand what lenses you are getting. 4. Make sure that the acetate of your frames is either Mazzucchelli or Takiron acetate unless you know that the manufacturer is using another reliable acetate. 5. Face shapes are an absolute marketing myth. Understand what your A, DBL, B, and E fitting measurements are to get a good fit. Also don’t use spring hinges to try to get a frame that doesn’t fit to fit. If you get a spring hinge make sure that the construction is made durable, but generally try to avoid spring hinges. 4. Overall try to focus on what hinge designs you are buying on your frames. Hinges are the MOST vulnerable part of the frame and without proper construction can ruin your frames. Try to get frames with 5 barrel hinge constructions or better. The more barrels the sturdier the construction(physics). 5. Try the best you can even though it costs more to either get pure titanium or beta titanium frames(include metalwork that’s on acetate frames). Thank you for coming to my eyewear TED talk.

The most dressy of them are the round metal (I think is a panto) wich are much more refined than the clubmasters. The different base colors may give enhanced contrast, being grey the neutral. Once you decided wich base color you need you may alter the apparent color with the mirror coating, which reduces glare a bit. So if you like blue you can get a grey base with blue mirror finish, I you like it very cool get one with gradient. Nobody will confuse a cheap gas station shade with a neat mirrored Ray Ban flash. The chromance line (polycarbonate sorry) have double gradient mirrored models (like maui Jim) with contrast enhancing techonology borrowed from Oakley, no way they will look cheap. G-15 is for sky, brown enhances contrast, grey is neutral, but they are all legacy technology.

What’s the best sunglasses for driving? Do you recommend polarized as well as UV blocking?
@dannycalifornia13002 жыл бұрын
One of the main benefits of polarization is for driving, as they reduce glare from horizontal surfaces, so absolutely yes.
@ArtyMcMuffin2 жыл бұрын
I would disagree if you have an heads-up display in your car, you won't be able to see it with polarized lenses (because well, it's their purpose). Personally, I tempt to use my non-polarized ones when I am driving but you should prioritize a quality lens and good fit over this detail, as good vision is primordial for driving.

I used to wear sunglasses, I loved aviators and Air Force shooters pilot glasses but honestly you don't need them. For thousands of years nobody created any, and nobody seemed to go blind up until the era of the blue light surrounding everybody's face at every angle. Everywhere you shop anymore is playing a TV surrounding folks with EMF and fluorescent lighting. My eyes used to painfully water outside without sunglasses. After much research and a gentle weaning, now I only wear them on a sunny snow covered day, and that's it. All summer no sunglasses and I sleep much better (the body produces much melatonin when eyes are exposed to both sunrise and sunset)
