This world IS becoming better. There are more and more people like this. We all have our soft spot, mine is animals, others it is children, or old folks, or special needs. Do what you can with what you have, you don’t have to break your bank, give what you can, it could be giving an address or phone number of who can help, or maybe it’s a scarf on a cold day, shoes a coat, or a nice warm box with straw in it for stray kitties, leftovers put out on your lawn, fresh water. I put dewormer in the food and spread DE over the areas I know the cats will be to stop the spread of fleas…just do what you can and pray to God for peace on earth.

Do you know what seagulls do when one member of their flock gets sick or injured? It ain't pretty for the poor disabled bird, trust me. Thank god there are humans out there who are empathetic enough to help an animal, plant or other non-human creature whenever that kindness is needed.

Not so simple. I suffer from the same "ailment" and sometimes I am wondering why I am doing what I do. Being a good person as you put it might be part of the equation, but I think the main problem is that we are projecting their pain into us and that forces us to understand their plight by feeling their pain and anguish ourselves, physically.

@@deavman There are psychlogical reasons (you are reminded by them that you or a family was/is hurt too or of different stories from your past. Now you try to save them/yourself through saving the animals and so on...) but also I believe theres a will for meaning/to do good besides all of that inside of us. In practise those to reasons mix but dont tell yourself there are only the first kind of reasons. Like this psychology/therapy does more harm than good.

I understand but I'm disabled myself.. It would be impossible, I actually have started having a carer recently at the ripe old age (sarcasm) of 49. So the best I do is donate to people like this with whatever I can spare. And I have 2 rescue kitties too, I got them when all was fine, Angel is 12 turning 13 in Jan and Trinity just turned 11. I had a great life and made good money. Now I need help with them too as I can't bend to clean their litter, but I have at least put their food and water up high to make that easy to change. Mum is 76 and she gives them all new litter every week and cleans it twice a day. Yes, I moved back in with my parents after 25 years alone, so I am just saying, some people have real reasons and it's not fair to instantly generalize. If the disc replacement surgery helps, I'll be stoked, but they are currently testing whether the bones around the discs are strong enough to hold the plastic replacements, and that's the only surgery that will work for my particular case. But yeah, fingers crossed, 3 months of rehab and I'll be better, so that's what I focus on.

@albert fish that would be called "unnecessary killing", it's quite taboo in islamic cultures... I think the vet wouldn't keep the seagull with him so he can't ask his client to "keep it", so if it's left on the shore, it might fend for itself and eat whatever people are throwing to it.... so it doesn't sound weird for me, I get the idea because I come from a similar culture but I can say for sure that it's a harsh advice, and... it doesn't surprise me at all from a "doctor".
