Considering the reactions that he got last year I thought it would be a good thing to share a story of when I met Josef in person many years ago (when he was working on "Brothers: A tale of two sons"). I had joined some old co-workers and their friends for some bar hopping in our hometown, which is a relatively small place but still considered a city. A few hours in that evening we ended up at one of the fancier bars that is a bit on the edge of the central city area and for some reason Josef Fares, his brother Fares Fares, Alexander Skarsgård and another Swedish actor was there. This bar is kind of small so you would probably only fit around 40-50 people in there and there are very few places to sit, this made it easy for people to just walk up to them and talk. Skarsgård was hanging out close to the bar with Josef's brother and the other Swedish actor (naturally there was quite a big crowd of ladies around them) while Josef was standing at some stairs in a more open area of the bar, engaged in a conversation with a small group of ladies. Our group went to get some beverages and then found an empty table from where we could observe the crowd. After a while a friend wanted to go and talk to Josef so I followed her and as soon as we got there he invited us to the conversation by throwing some questions at us. The ladies asked him about his movies or politics but he actually seemed uninterested to talk about himself and changed the subject as soon as he could without being rude at all. I honestly think he fired of more questions than the four ladies around him and he was always paying attention to what was being said. At this time I was mostly just enjoying him talk because of his personality but then he started to focus his questions on me, what I thought of this and that and every time I said something he agreed with he told the ladies around him things like; "This guy is great". It was easy to tell that his attempt to shift their attention to me was in vain but I still appreciated the effort and my mind was at this time more blown away of how down to earth this man is. Eventually I told him I was going out for a smoke and he asked me if he could borrow a cigarette which I of course gladly gave him. I continued talking to Josef outside and it felt like I was talking to a friend, he was open, passionate and interested in opinions. It felt like no matter what question I asked, he would answer it. Then he started talking about a game that he was working on, not what the game was about but how the development was different from making a movie. We talked a lot about games and the experiences you can get from them that you can't get from movies. This part of the conversation really shocked me, because prior to this I had only seen one of his movies (I still only have seen one of his movies), which is a comedy and all of a sudden he was having this passionate speech about video games. I didn't play "Brothers: A tale of two sons" when it was released but a friend of mine invited me to play "A Way Out" and after experiencing that I went through Brothers as well. It's great to see this man succeed with his vision of using the medium to create experiences that are unique to games while also making them consumer friendly, something every game developer should strive towards. To everyone who thought his antics on last years game awards was a bit outlandish, he is just a down to earth guy that is very passionate about games with a great personality. Best of luck to Josef Fares in his future projects! TL;DR: From personal experience I can say that Josef Fares is a great guy!

After watching the IGN Unflitered episode with him (one of the rare pieces of quality content coming from IGN - to my knowledge) this definitely seems like a good description.

This reminds me of my own story on Josef, I attended The Game Awards, the very same year Josef did that speech, and when The Game Awards ended, as I was about to leave, I see Josef talking to Eiji Aonuma convincing Eiji he should play A Way Out

Dude, that was literally one of the most traditional split-screen coop we've had in a long time. You could even play it split-screen online with a friend if only one person owns the game. The graphics being the only downside, because it was sort of like an indie game sponsored by EA. Story wise, its one of the most unique story for a long time as well, especially from an indie game. At first, I thought it was bad, because of the graphics as well, but when people actually played it, it was completely different than what it was shown. I was proven wrong myself.
@GuyOnAChair6 жыл бұрын
@@ikemarthlinkrich I love splitscreen but I thought the story was cookie cutter and cliche and that the gameplay was just the bare minimum.
