@colmhanrahan2769 Hi Colm, thanks for your comments. It's great to have you along. St Abbs is a stunning place to kayak whatever the conditions as the scenery and wildlife are superb !! I find it even more rewarding when conditions start to get spicy, and you can test your timings between the rocks and gullies, as shown in the compilation from several visits. It's great when flat calm too, which enables you to explore each little nook and cranny. My wife loved it on a beautifully sunny day a few years back. Stay tuned, Colm, for lots more new videos from some excellent trips this year so far. Thanks again, and if not already don't forget to subscribe... Cheers Geoff

@@LongIslandKayakJourneys Hi Tuan and thanks for your kind comments. My sea kayaking history takes me way back to 1972 when I first started but even long before that, I've always had a great love of the sea from being mesmerised by waves crashing onto the coast before the age of 10 sitting for hours on the clifftops in Cornwall while on holiday. This evolved into; board surfing, kayak surfing, scuba diving instructor etc and a tremendous love of the sea my entire life. These days I paddle with many kayak groups from all over the UK and abroad, the paddles shown in the video were from around 100 mile radius and sufficient skill to deal with the conditions. I also believe in exposing folk to more challenging conditions to encourage progression, whist having the ability to incident manage situations should they occur. I've a mountain of footage still to edit from trips this year so, please subscribe, share content with friends and I welcome regular feedback in order to answer questions and improve both min and others skills. Thanks again and best regards.... Geoff

Hi Geoff. Peter here. I only just returned this late afternoon from a 3 day kayak camp, turned the computer on and voila, there was this video from Geoff Burke, which I just had to watch. St Abbs looks amazing with a little swell, and I could imagine myself heading through those gullies and wondered what I would do in those situations. The re-enter roll, and skillfully done, I must say, made me think, what about the water in the boat? All my kayaks have electric bilge pumps so in the event of a re-enter roll, one can concentrate on stabilizing the kayak while the de-stabilizing water is being pumped out. Important in lumpy water. How did you get the water out given there did not appear to be a handy beach available. Hand pumps are fine, but if you have any experience of pumping out a flooded cockpit with one, ypu would go electric, quick smart. Thanks for editing and uploading this video. I really enjoyed it so much. At 70 years old and a fairly competent kayaker it is the sort of stuff that makes me even more keen to get out on the water, which is currently once or twice a week, minimum.

@@janeseddon5500 Hi Peter, thanks for your comments. Sounds like you're having fun and certainly getting out plenty, well done much better than myself at present, (apart from a couple of local trips last weekend), as I'm trying to reduce the mountain of editing accumulated from lots of extended trips since March 🙄🙄 The St Abbs compilation has been a video idea for some time. Yeah, Dave is a very competent paddler and a re-entry roll is something he's quite happy about with, a swift paddle out to safety, a simple raft up and a hand pump had him emptied, quickly and smoothly. The electric bilge pump set up seems quite popular in various parts of the world especially in Aussie but very rare over here 🤔 Maybe water temp is a factor as you guys also swim boats out through surf, which strikes me as very strange 🙄😂🤣. My mindset is very much KISS... keep, it, simple, stupid...more equipment, is more to maintain and or fail especially if rarely used, an electric pump has many component parts to go wrong, is individual to the boat and assumes everyone in the group has one... and it's going to work, but is there a backup for a failure scenario...sorry if I sound critical, its not my intention 🙄🤔 I carry a simple hand pump suspended in a net under my deck between my legs with my lunch bag, it utilises the dead space but is slick, basic and works when required, lunch is always to hand enabling me to eat without landing, I often choose to eat that way if the landings are iffy, slippy boulders or waves breaking on sharp rocks...im quite happy to lounge and graze on a moving sea 😃😃. The weather must be pretty good over there at present coming into your summer, enabling some good trips, you must send me a few pics, I'm sure the scenery is amazing. I always fancied a trip out to Broughton Island while visiting Nelson Bay area but sadly not enough time wile on holiday with the family. Our Stuart has moved further North to Port Macquarie so I guess it'll never happen now 😥🥺 Stay tuned lots to come in the near future. Best Regards Geoff 👍😎

Excellent video again Geoff! Which stabilisation setting are you using on the GoPro, if you don’t mind me asking? I just can't seem to find one that looks even halfway natural for sea kayaking. Using the Hero 11.
@geoffburke2 ай бұрын
@@TreLongboard Hi Juha, welcome back and as always thanks for your comments, keep them coming as loads more content to edit and upload very soon 👍👍 I used to use the Hero 10 with standard stabilisation and Horizon leveling which I found fine, but GoPro's inability to sort out the usless unreliability issues... locking up requiring the battery to be removed on nearly every trip at least once was just a joke!!! Lots of excellent footage lost when it's too rough to take it to bits in a sea kayak, risking water ingress!! The original Hero 10 was replaced more than 5 times and still has the same issue!! I moved to DJI's Action 4 which uses the same 1:1.7 lens as my Mini 3 Pro drone. It gives stunning results and uses DJI's RockSteady 3.0 Technology, it gives a slightly wider field of view even in Parallel (dewarp) mode and I use 4K at 30 or 60 fps. It's ultra reliable, with no issues in the 12 months that I've been using it. The Action 5 is being released in the coming weeks, which has the same form factor and a bunch of new settings/enhancements, that's all I can find out at present. I'm more than happy with image quality etc and find it much better than the GoPro. I hope this helps...stay tuned for more coming soon 👍👍 Cheers Geoff
