Last Minute Christmas Mincemeat Cake

I always enjoy the new things that I have not seen before. Never had minced meat cake but my Mother use to make minced meat pies for Christmas. I always liked them.

Hi Mary. I do love mince pies too. I have several videos for them on the channel. I also have one for making mincemeat which is very good, and especially so for those who cannot buy it in the shops. Luckily in the UK mincemeat is available all year round.

Hi Mary Mary. I made this last Christmas, instead of my more usual Christmas cake which takes weeks. This one can be made anytime before Christmas, even just the day before. Those who ate it said it was the best Christmas cake they ever had.

Jeff, Does the mincemeat used actually contain meat? or is it finely chopped raisins, currants etc?

HI Philip. No the mincemeat doesn't contain meat. It is a mixture of dried fruits, currants, raisins, sultanas, chopped mixed peel etc and some suet. Originally it would have contained sweet and savoury, including meat. But by about the mid 19th century the meat was being eliminated from mincemeat.
