🇱🇰 I have my profile picture background of Sigiriya Rock for 7yrs now. While looking for a room to stay (peak season and hotels are fully booked) a family offered their son's room for small fee. With free coconut and rock apple(?). In return I ate in their small canteen for dinner, bf and lunch. I give them a big tip which they are trying to give it back to me running in the street while on my way to taxi station. Very accommodating and hospitable people. ❤️❤️❤️ 🇵🇭

I'm not Sri Lankan. I''m Greek but I have to point out that there was no mentioning of Asia's 1st woman head of state who was Sri Lankan!!! I'm refering to Queen Anula who reigned Sri Lanka from 47 BC until 42 BC. She is also called "The black widow" of all times because during her 5 years on the throne she got married to 5 different men and she killed them all by using poison, just because she was also a notorious nymphomaniac that she was always targeting to the next hottest man available around her after getting bored with the man she already was with!!! Also interestingly, during Ashoka and Indo-greek rule, there were ancient greek converts to Buddhism who travelled to Sri Lanka and paid homage and support to a stupa (a form of buddhist monument/edifice) created in the nation. Interesting link between Ancient SL and Greece. Ancient greeks called Sri Lanka Taprobane so they did know of its mysterious existence

People often believe that Sinhalese and Tamils are enemies, but I can confidently say that they are friends and even family. Tamils may have issues with the government, and Sinhalese may also have concerns. The proof is that there might be rude individuals among both Tamils and Sinhalese, but you will always find them standing up for each other. It's our shared history, and we should take pride in it. I'm not suggesting that Tamils are not allowed to celebrate Maaveerar Naal; of course, they can, as it is a must for all soldiers of the Tamil Tigers. I'm not sure if Sinhalese have similar celebrations, but if they do, it's great!

It is where the ancestors of the Sinhalese people originate from during 6th century Kalinga period 😎 Bihar was home to one of the first Indian empire Magadha, Vajj was the first known republic in India (present day Bihar), Mauryan empire and Gupta empire had major ties to the region because of Pataliputra one of the best ancient cities of India, Buddha got enlightened in Bihar (Bodh Gaya) and hence is the holiest site of Buddhism. Nalanda university, one of India's greatest ancient institutions was in Bihar. Bihar is one of richest places of India and is underappreciated. More interesting than Delhi, Punjab and other Northern Indian regions in my opinion. All the best to Bihar and its people

I’m the Lankan Moor from the video. Just wanted to say thanks Barbs for educating the World about 🇱🇰 because not many know about us tbh. Also for giving me the opportunity as a Moor to speak about our island. I just wanted to clear something up about my people because it can be confusing and unknown to many. The Moorish people in Sri Lanka are an actual ethnicity, not a branch of Tamils as shown in the pie graph. We came about during the arrival of Arab traders mainly from Yemen but also from other parts of the the Middle East and North Africa. These traders intermarried with Sinhalese women (and some Tamil) and that’s how us Moors came about. Now the reason as to why a lot of Moors speak Tamil is because the Arab traders did a lot of merchant work around the coastal areas of the island so Tamil was spoken to communicate with other traders in the northern parts of the Indian Ocean. Lots of Moors especially in Central, South and West parts of the island speak Sinhalese too. My family are mostly trilingual and some Moors speak Arabic. We speak a dialect of Tamil called Arwi too which has Arabic influence. Hope that clears it up Barbs 🙏🏽

As an Indonesian, I find it interesting for some names there. Bandaranaike as the busiest airport, "bandara" is Indonesian word for airport. Parakrama Samudra as the biggest weva, "samudra" is Indonesian word for ocean. "Spicy sambol"? Yeah we call it sambal here. We call carrom "karambol".

Bandara is simply a name in Sinhala and not related to airport at all. You are right on other stuff tho. We share many common words because Sinhala is dervied from Sanskrit and Indonesia has been influenced a lot by indian culture and the language-Sanskrit.

@@user-xk2ot7eg7f I didnt do any thing thats politics I like tamil people they are friendly and intelligent. I have tamil friends , I dont hate them. I also regret about burning down that library. That was politics. Tamils became tigers because they were never cared by the Gov. They were never looked after by gov its same to these days

I have a friend who thought that Sri Lanka (where I was born in) was a state of India in the ocean and when he realised that he was wrong; he tried so hard to prove me wrong.
