Just came across your stuff today and I love it. You do a great job structuring historical accounts and details into a narrative that feels very much like a film. There isn’t a lot of speculation and what ifs, but it does a great job in capturing the romanticized view of the time period. I’m not sure I’m explaining it well, but that’s the best way I can. On a side note though: every time I hear “babyface” Nelson, I think of that scene from “O’ Brother where art thou?” Where in the escaping car chase, he’s shouting his Tommy gun at some cows, and Delmar says “Oh George; not the livestock”. Lol😂 sorry sorry. Can’t help it. Awesome research on the video!

This is largely the version I heard. If you're ever in Logan, Utah, go to the engineering building at USU. It's named after Sam Cowley, one of the two FBI agents who were killed in that last fight. There's a plaque on the wall describing the details of the gunfight. It reads like a screen play, not as good as your telling. Good job sir!

It’s so crazy the details that was in your story telling great job. Still missing a lot of details about lake Geneva lake Como where they were driving to the French country inn. But the g men were already waiting for him. The owner of the inn was a bootlegger named Hobart Hermansen that married bugs Morans x wife Lucille Logan . Which is a way better story than that public enemy movie lol The footage is funny because it shows mountains but it was on route 14 in Barrington Illinois by the McDonald’s . But still better story telling then I could have ever done.

The magazine capacity of Nelson's "Baby Machine Gun" a Colt 1911 chambered in .38 Super and customized by San Antonio gunsmith Hyman Lehman was actually 21 rounds (iirc). It is a single stack magazine and 50 rounds would be to long for practical use.

@@afewbadmen. It was a wicked little beast. The .38 Super was capable of penetrating most of the "bulletproof" vest of that era. It had the muzzle brake and forward grip on there to help keep the muzzle from rising in recoil with such high rate of fire. It's thought that Eddie Bentz is the man who introduced Nelson to Lebman. Nelson took his family and spent Thanksgiving with Lebman one year. Law Enforcement actually recovered an almost identical gun from Dillinger's apartment in St.Paul and it is believed that Nelson gifted it to Dillinger after his Crown Point escape. When the FBI raided Lebman in 1934 they found an incomplete one chambered in .45acp (it had an 18 round magazine capacity vs. 22 for .38 Super). He stated he was building it for the (by then) deceased Homer Van Meter. Lebman's other "signature" weapon was a Model of 1907 .351 caliber Winchester, modified to full auto with muzzle brake or suppressor and forward mounted pistol grip and 15 or 20 round extended magazine. Tuscon PD recovered two (1 with suppressor, 1 with muzzle brake) from the gang when they were busted there. Lebman was a very interesting character. Pretty Boy Floyd was killed carrying two 1911 Colt's with one being modified to fire full auto but no other modification and it is unknown if it was a Lebman gun. Seems unlikely, as it lacked the additional features he provided on guns of his design.

I enjoy your presentations. You are well informed & your narration is very good. However, you made a mistake in your identification of Homer Van Meter. At 13:30 you identify the man pictured as Van Meter. Actually, it is John Paul Chase, a loyal criminal/co-conspirator of Baby Face Nelsons. At 27:28, you show a gallery photo of 6 criminals. Look closely at the 5th photo, middle photo, bottom row. That is Homer Van Meter. He is distinguish by his half lidded, sleepy looking eyes. Every photo that I have seen of him, Van Meter has that same sleepy look.

No way Nelson got out of the car and took the time to say "...I know who you are, you're G men and you have vests on ect....." while the armed G men just sat there???😂 Doesn't make any sense Sounds like a movie 😂 Also radios in cars in the 20s early 30s? idk just wondering?
