As a man of 31 having already gone through the phase of discovering Carlin for the first time, my new favorite thing is watching younger people's reactions in the same exact situation. It's like having a third person view of myself ten (give or take) years ago. The man was a genius in so many ways, very few have been able to push limits like he did...especially in this social climate. Keep reacting to his videos. Comedy makes you laugh, great comedy makes you uncomfortable while you laugh.

Same. Millennial here, discovered George Carlin at 14 (by watching Outrageous Fortune, the 1987 film, not the TV series, and thinking he was JUST an actor), then discovered he was actually one of the greatest comedians and philosophers that ever walked the Earth. Now I love watching other Millennials and Gen Z see him for the first time. We need Carlin back SO BADLY.

Carlin was trying to make a point. He was trying to shock people. "Everyone" wants death penalty, as long as its being done "by someone else" and "in a place where i don't have to see it or deal with it". The minute you start trying to make it visible and something everyone has to deal with, be it to see the gory details in person or by trying to explain and defend it to their kids, people usually don't feel too comfortable. But hey, it's probably easier to just see it as a comedy bit.

Carlin's stuff is absolutely TIMELESS. I love watching new people introduced to his mindset and genuis. I'm just waiting to see one of these "younger" reaction channels catch on to the fact that almost every single death he mentions in this bit was on Game of Thrones at some point and we all know how much people loved that shit. Just saying lol 🤔🤷‍♀️ Balance the stupid f"in budget!! 🤯😁

One of the things that's so great about George, is when he is shocking people, he is deliberately crossing the line. He is making people uncomfortable, but there's always a basic truth there at the heart of his comedy. His amazing intellect goes way over many people's heads. In terms of stand-up, he is the greatest ever, at least for me he is.

It's kinda the "Batman" argument. "I'm not talking about the Penguin, Riddler or Catwoman. I'm talking about someone so deranged, they are beyond saving". Maybe people are scared that if the Government starts Executing "Criminals" that one Day, they get a bit too "generous" with their Death Sentences. I think we should at least kill the worst of the worst, they are just in Prison, taking up Space and Resources. Not to mention.... and I hope this doesn't happen to often, imagine a Serial Killer Who fucked and ate 5 Babies and putting them in the same Room as People in Jail for illegal downloads or Robbery, this is why Criminals come out of Prison MORE messed up then when they went in.

Carlin is actually very much opposed to the death penalty. In his books he talks about exactly what you said. He's just making a point about the hypocrisy of it all. Same as abortion etc... He intentionally takes things to the extreme to show the insanity of the logic. He's like South Park... but in physical form. While it all may seem intense, offensive, or even just very edgy, he's actually just making a point by showing how flawed the logic is.

See, this is why Carlin is the master at what he does. The bit was set up basically like "The Aristocrats", where he's constantly going further and further over the top and getting more and more extreme and twisted. And as he builds toward the end of the bit, he starts playing with the audience's expectations, setting it up so they think the final punchline is gonna be the most extreme thing they've ever heard. But then all it ends up being is a lame pun. "Wouldn't know whether he was coming or going" sounds almost like a dad joke. It's intentionally anticlimactic. Genius.

Modern man, losing things (the version that’s part of his HBO special Playing With Your Head) people who oughta be killed, time, sports, baseball vs football, proud to be an American/god bless America, taking off your hat, things we say when people die, keeping people alert, driving, and interview with Jesus. George was a hero to my generation. When you were surounded by human robots who did everything they were told to do. Go to work. Go to church. Eat what the TV tells you to eat. Believe everything the government tells you to believe. George was the voice for those of us who refused to buy the bullshit they kept trying to shove down our throats while they robbed us blind and got even richer because stupid people bought whatever they were selling. George's skills were simple logic and unbelievable memorization. His gift was comedic timing. He and Robin Williams were the true kings of comedy.

I hate the death penalty with a passion 1.There is no credible proof that the death penalty works as a deterrent. In the US, in states where the death penalty has been abolished, there has been no significant change in the rates for serious criminal offenses, such as murder. 2. It is a cruel and unusual punishment, where basic standards of human dignity are compromised or undermined. It continues the cycle of violence. Retribution is just another word for revenge-it is essentially just a form of the flawed thinking that two wrongs can make a right. The pro argument is that killing people is wrong; therefore, you should kill people for killing, which makes no sense. . . 3. It affects the poorer segments of society and racial minorities disproportionately, in part because they cannot afford the costs of good legal support. In the USA, although only 13% of the population is African-American, 50% of death row prisoners are African-American. 4. The justice system is bound to make mistakes. In the case of people who are wrongly imprisoned, they can be released from prison and given compensation, but a wrongful execution can never be righted. 5. The death penalty is not cost-effective. When all the practical and legal costs are taken into account, it is clear that the execution is more expensive than imprisoning for life. 6. A life spent in prison is a worse punishment than an execution. A life sentence prisoner has many years to endure their punishment, as well as experience remorse and reflect on his or her crimes. of law enforcement officials. The abolition of the death penalty occurs most often in states where the murder of police officers is a very low percentage of all homicides. In 2014, there were 14,000 murders that took place in the United States, but there were only 35 executions that took place. 7. It is used to control political messages. The United States uses the death penalty exclusively for the punishment of crimes as defined by legal code and precedent. It is a principle which is not consistent for other countries in the world. 78% of global executions because of capital punishment come from just four countries when excluding China: Iraq, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. 8. Family members of a victim are adversely impacted by the death penalty. The Marquette Law Review found that when family members go through the capital punishment process after someone they love becomes a victim, they have higher levels of mental, physical, and behavioral health problems when compared to when the perpetrator receives a sentence of life in prison. Although this issue does not happen in every circumstance, some family members can feel responsible for the fact that the government is putting this criminal to death. Proponents would argue that capital punishment provides relief because it guarantees that person can no longer harm another, but there are many families who do not feel a sense of satisfaction with this action. If they are the ones who experience loss, then there should be a way to provide input for them. There are very few prison escapes that occur, and fewer that involve violent criminals. 9. The number of escapes from prison in the United States declined by more than 50% between 1998-2013, falling to a rate of 10.5 escapes per 10,000 prisoners in 2013. At the same time, the number of life sentences handed out by the court system has gone up by 500%. Most of the incidents that contribute to a prisoner escape come from low-security situations, like when 16 prisoners walked away from a work site and another 3 disappeared from a community work center. Out of all of the reported escapes in 2013, only one inmate from a secured facility was able to get away. Some countries, including Sudan and Iran, use the death penalty as a political tool. It becomes a way to punish political opponents who might want to take their country in a different direction. There were a total of 2,500 death sentences recorded in 54 countries in 2018, with about 20,000 people currently under sentence around the world at the end of the year. 10. Children are sometimes put to death through the use of capital punishment. There are at least 97 kids who were put to death by capital punishment laws in Iran since 1990. Another 145 child executions have happened in China, the Republic of Congo, Pakistan, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria - and the United States. Scott Hain, Toronto Patterson, T.J. Jones, Napoleon Beazley, Gerald Mitchell, Shaka Sankofa, Glen McGinnis, and Steven Roach were all put to death in the United States for a crime that they committed at age 17. Sean Sellers was executed when he was 29 for a crime that he committed when he was 16. 11. The evidence obtained to justify the death penalty is sometimes tainted. There are specific guidelines in the United States today that limit how and when law enforcement can obtain evidence during questioning. This structure of protection is not always available around the world. There are numerous people executed after being convicted during an unfair trial, often on the basis of evidence or confessions obtained through the use of torture. Some defendants were not given adequate legal representation. Some countries even use the death penalty as a mandatory punishment for specific offenses, which means the judge cannot consider the circumstances of the crime during the sentencing phase of a trial. 12. More focus on Rehabilitation for serious offenders murderers, rapists, pedophiles, abusers, and drug dealers Is more effective to reintegrate them back into society and also get them a job however not everyone can be rehabilitated and that's what maximum-security prison is for the keep them away from the Society but still treat them like human beings NOT like animals take away their freedom not their Humanity. Norway prove this its recidivism rate is 20% in Germany it's 40% in Japan 48% the United States full on punishment prison (with zero Rehabilitation) recidivism rate is 76.6%

Crucifixions on Monday Night Football? You wanna see the rating skyrocket! lol And balancing the US budget is a farce. The US deficit (i.e. federal debt) has been has been around since 1789, barring the 1 year during Andrew Jackson's presidency when it was paid off. It has basically been used as a credit card by the federal government which doesn't have any spending limit. Once it reached $1 billion in the mid-1980s it might as well not haven't existed at all. And since they started adding to it a trillion at a time in 2020, it really doesn't mean anything. If you could print money at home, would *_you_* care home much you were spending? Of course, it does have consequences. Inflation and the international devaluation of the US dollar, just to name two.

Actually, most death row inmates spend years trying different appeal strategies to avoid being executed. That's why it takes so long to carry out the sentences.

@@ZEPnALE George Stinney Jr. 14, executed for murdering two white girls in SC 1944. He was forced into signing a confession letter, and his family was run out of town. He wasn’t even physically big enough to commit crimes of this nature.
@ZEPnALE
@ZEPnALE 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevonwhite8933 The judge who vacated the verdict in 2014 did not exonerate Stinney. In fact, she stated that "...he may well have committed..." the murders. She only ruled that he had not received a fair trial, specifically citing the 6th Amendment. In any case, that trial was 20 years before the Miranda ruling, and post WW II criminal procedure laws. It was also more than 2 decades before civil rights and voting rights legislation which, among other effects, essentially prevent all white juries.
@stevonwhite8933
@stevonwhite8933 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZEPnALE He was barely even 5 feet tall at 14. He didn’t commit those murders. It’s been proven it was a white man that was in the girls house, and knew them. He died long before Stinney was exonerated. It’s funny how you actually think this country didn’t falsely imprison and kill people when it’s proven ALL the time. Just cause not that many people aren’t taking off death row, doesn’t mean anything other than our justice system is absolutely GARBAGE.

Nothing wrong with Marxism mate. All it is is a critique of capitalism. Nothing should be accepted without questioning it, and that’s all Marxism does. Look into it, I’m sure you’d be surprised as to how mild it is. It’s just another word that has been corrupted to cause fear aand therefore to control. I’d be shocked if Carlin didn’t have a good few Marxist values as he is constantly criticizing the capitalist way America is, which is de facto Marxism. If you love how Carlin thinks and agree with his points about america, then you also have some Marxist values andthere is absolutely nothing wrong with that:)

Carlin never talked about his true political point of view except to say that he didn’t give a fuck about the outcome of this country or anywhere else. He was here for the entertainment: to watch us and take his notes. Although, his daughter said that if he were still alive he’d like Bernie Sanders.

90 % of comedy is in the timing and flow of the routine. Every time you pause the video to interject some comment or criticism completely breaks the flow and is incredibly annoying and RUINS the video. You can just react with your laughter or facial expressions without pausing every 2 minutes to rant about something or talking over the guy. Save your commentary for after the routine if you want to complain about something or disagree or even agree with him.

The reactor and viewer don't have the memory anymore these days to do this. ;-) That being said, going back on a video before continuing is the solution if you are doing pauses.
