List of 7 words! On July 21, 1972 George Carlin was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after his concert and charged with violating the state's obscenity laws after performing his controversial routine, "seven words you can never say on television,"! His case went all the way to The Supreme Court! They ruled he was exercising his first amendment rights and from then on comedians/artists could use profanity for there show! The radio station that actually played this was WABI.... the FCC had fined them for playing it! But when George won his case with the Supreme Court there charges/fines were dropped! RIP George Carlin! Our "Obscenity Laws" changed forever!!!

Carlin wrote everything down. Then rehearsed it to perfection. He started as a comedy writer in the late 50's or early 60's. Definitely look into 7 Words You Can't Say On TV.

He's almost like a theatre actor doing a monologue. He easily could have made a career in acting. Every gesture, facial expression, body posture is incorporated with immaculate timing. This takes endless rehearsal to make it look so spontaneous. He had epic performing skills!

I had the privilege of seeing George live about a half dozen times. Memorable moment: early 90's, George coming off a heart attack, word was that his show was gonna be kind of "toned down" moving forward. Really? We're at the MGM Grand in Vegas, nicely-dressed older couple at the table just ahead of us. George comes out to thunderous applause, and as he's positioning his stool with glass of water on top, he unleashes his opening joke - "Did you ever notice that all the women who are against abortion are the ones you wouldn't want to f*ck in the first place??". The old couple didn't know whether to shit or go blind, and all kinds of reactions were coming out of the crowd. And with that another great performance was kicked off. Truly one of the all-time greats, probably top 2-3 comedians of all time.

I suggest to people of all adult ages, fans or not, funny or serious, please watch the GC interview by Jon Stewart. It was cool to see him before he hit it big and you could tell he was captivated by a man he admired so much while hanging out with George that week. I enjoyed seeing where the both of them were career wise at that time. Must view interview from the Aspen Comedy Festival around 1997?

Guys what you have to realise is this bit is from 1992, we didn't have the data we have now. If Carlin was alive today this bit would be a whole lot different. Carlin did care about the planet and would have said so, he was pissed at the arrogance and narcissism of the environmentalists of that time. They were arrogant and they acted like those hippies from the 60s.

George had said he didn't consider himself a traditional standup comedian but rather a comedic performer who wrote his own material. Everything was carefully written, revised, and practiced to get it just right. I'd like to see you check out his earlier stuff from his 70s albums. The 7 Words You Can Never Say On Television is his landmark bit from his album Class Clown. You will see where he evolved from in his career.

On the plastic bag subject, yeah it's not going to affect the planet in the same way that meteor impacts and solar flares do, but when you consider how many plastic bags humans use and dispose of, with the majority of those hundreds of millions of bags being discarded and dumped into the ocean, it's the sea life that will suffer not the planet.

As for the original post, sea life matters little to the planet (as do we). Carlin is talking about the planet, not about animals. The planet can very well spawn more sea life if this one is fucked over, it just needs to undergo some recycling period like an ice age (hundreds of thousands of years). He's talking about the big picture, what you pointed out is part of the small frame picture.

Carlin was a master of Observational Comedy. He was great at pointing at little things that we all share in common. He was also a genius at wordplay and analyzing the language we choose to use to describe things. This makes most of his material timeless and still relevant today. This particular routine about taking ecology to the most obnoxious extreme was from an HBO special in the early 90's. Everything from this "planet worship" we have to a new virus we have to deal with is with us today. Obviously, I doubt George is saying we don't have a responsibility to not be pigs and purposely pollute the planet. It's the "Green police" and their ridiculous claims that less than 200 years of heavy industry is actually threatening a planet 4.5 BILLION years old. LOL!

1:30 The "25 species a day" is a bit deceptive...we have 8 levels of categorization when it comes to life: Domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and finally species...that's what he's talking about...basically the minimum definition to say one animal is different from another...so, it's usually regional specific species that go extinct because that variation only exists in that geographical area... then when the circumstances change, their regional adaptation is no longer beneficial, so they die out...

I sort of agree with your California conversation about the fault line and the fires but the thing is that there's no way to escape nature. I live in California and we have fires and earthquakes, but I'm originally from Puerto Rico and there's hurricanes there. In parts of the US you're subjected to tornados, in other parts to harsh blizzards or floods or volcanos, etc. so really there's no where to go. You just gotta be ready for anything doesn't matter where you are.

I understand the pausing, but one of the most powerful things about a Carlin performance was the rhythm how he would build to a final climax. When you saw him live you could feel it. Even here when they paused, it took the air out of what was coming next. I understand why, but it's a shame kids like these can't feel the full force of the performance. And before you go "Ok, Boomer", I was born in 66, Boomer cutoff is 64.

Yeah but really, corporations are the number 1 people to blame with pollution. Overall, he's right.

sometimes Carlin would start to speak in a faster cadence when he had alot of information to drop, so that he didn't stop the show for exposition. like when he started talking about all the earth has been through, he started rattling them off quickly and it helps keep up the pace of the rest of the show while allowing him the luxury of slowing down when he needed to get something across.
