Galloway told James that have been elected to parliament six times and "leading" the anti-war movement in the run-up to the Iraq War, his credentials spoke for themselves.
"Running a city like London is not like running a political party," James told the outspoken former MP.
Galloway replied: "I'm telling you about my leadership credentials. A lot of people recognise them. That's why I'm here, that's why the bookmakers are narrowing the odds."
The Respect Party leader then took aim at his newest rival for the top job in the city: Zac Goldsmith.
"If you're going to have a multi-billionaire trust fund child as your mayor, he's definitely the best one to have!
"He's a good and honourable person, but he's undeniably part of the elite - and I'm speaking for those that are not."
