George Gobel was definitely a pioneer in the history of TV comedy. Remember, this was the fifties, and network TV was still in its infancy at the time George Gobel's show was on TV.

I had the honor of appearing on the George Gobel show in the 1950's. It was a part of my life that I enjoyed. Singing was a gift I had and I am blessed to have appeared on his show. April Ames

I miss George Gobel, and it saddens me that so many talented icons are swiftly becoming lost to history. Hopefully KZbin will help to keep these entertainers alive in some small way.

Ol Lonesome George was a really funny man. (Guitar accompanies). We watched him every single week. Good clean family comedy. Just thinking about George puts a smile on my face!

Thanks for this. I had never seen him at so tender an age. One of the funniest things I ever heard was a story by Orson Bean (if I remember rightly) on the Tonight Show (ditto) about George. Too long to tell here, but apparently George was as funny offstage as on.

VERY funny guy! Back in this era, comics/comedians didn't have to [weren't allowed to] use sex or filthy language in their acts, but they were still funnier than most of today's comedy entertainers. Furthermore, Mr. Gobel was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps. Rest in peace, Mr. Gobel.
