The lyrics George used are a medley from House Rent Boogie and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by John Lee Hooker and of course ad-libs. So happy you got to this amazing performance.

Saw Elvin when he was with Paul Butterfield Blues Band in Chicago. This was back in the mid-60's and still one of the greatest show I've ever seen. Thanks for the vid.

It's 2 old blues songs put together. House Rent Boogie and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer. This is a pure jam session with Elvin and George together!

I saw George live in Flint, MI in May 1986. He was the only guitarist and played all the leads. I'm sure he tailors the song to the city he is in. I still have my shirt from that concert, but is seems to have shrunk over the past almost 40 years. The show was a hell of a good time.

If you listen to studio version you'd see how open it was as a touring song

This performance is a classic! Yes, improvising lyrics. But, not far from studio. Please listen to studio version too..just to get a feel for how good this is...🙂

Years ago he was traveling on I-80 in Pa and stopped for the night at our little town. He went to our local pub/restaurant to enjoy his evening. After becoming friendly with some of the patrons he went to his car and returned with his guitar and put on a little show for everyone. Amazing person and outstanding performer!! Are you from Pa? You said " up air" and that is something we say here.

This is great, but its because I've heard the studio version on the radio so much that I understand when George is ad-libbing. That's why I prefer people reacting to studio versions first of new songs they aren't familiar with, then do a live version. But that's just me, everybody is different and thank goodness for that! 🙂

Had the pleasure of seeing George and the Destroyers on Halloween night. Man came out dressed as a guerilla, and the rest of the band were all in costume too, one came out of a huge trashcan and handed George his guitar and away we went....needless to say I caught his slide that night. Incredible show for a small theater stage.

So glad you decided to listen to this! What Nyxi_Nyx wrote below explains that it's a combination of two songs. George was heavily influenced by the Blues and a few people in particular, like John Lee Hooker. GT did alter lyrics to fit with whatever city he was in. He's actually a great guitar player and you are correct, he is charismatic af, lol. The band is awesome and especially great when they need to constantly adapt/follow the lead. Just a fun tune!!

Just so you know George thorogood did a copy of a song called move it on over which is actually the first rock song ever written in 1948 by Hank Williams but most people think it's you know rock rock around the clock but move it on over was way before that like six years

I saw him once a long time ago and let me tell you, this guy and his band just rocked. They played forever. Bruce Springsteen has a reputation for pjaying long concerts but I think George may have him beat. I’ve seen both and George just didn’t let up.

Saw him and band open for the Stones in '81. Great set and J. Geils Band was on the bill too. Stones always gave more for your money.

He looks so young and healthy. It's amazing how rockers survive the cocaine and the heroin but the alcohol will take them and their looks to hell.

This is what I would call a loose interpretation of the original song. Elvin is not on the studio track so his parts were def an addition and George did go "off script" throughout. Some did seem improvised on the spot but there's no way I can know what is practiced and what is just made up on the fly. Either way, it's a banger of a song and this performance was insane. George didn't do a lot of shredding here but believe me, he is a bad man with that guitar. I seen him around this time frame - Bad To The Bone tour - and it was fire!!! I went searching for another live vid from George and I found one called Reelin And Rockin from 1981. I never heard the song before. Don't know if it's a cover but it is a certified banger, for sure. George tears that guitar up and has moves I didn't know he had. Holy cow, I hope you can get to this one, Steven!! Shewee!! I'm a little shook from just watching it right now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6PXpqJrbMeVeMksi=gTqr-XMkUgc1F_gX

Don't know if you noticed, Steven, but George was finger picking. As a wannabe guitarist myself, that's a technique I never got down. I have to use a pick, which I feel limits what I can do. But we all work around our limits.
