I think a KZbinr compared Kinger to an angel when he was comforting Pomni in hell, from his calming tone to when it shows him guiding her through hell while shining through the dark. Something like that helps a lot to get through hard times, right. And I bet you're not the only one who cried. But I have a question for you, who do you think would Abstract first amongst the remaining group?

I noticed that when Kinger has the shotgun in his hands, he always holds it upwards and NEVER points it in Pomni's direction, not even for a comedic gag, which is proper gun handling. Even an unloaded gun you never point at anyone or let it face a person even when you are at rest or idle. Any time he or Pomni moves in a way that would have put it in a position of pointing towards her, he moves it! It's a really nice detail that further proves that in this type of crisis, especially in the dark, he is reliable enough to remember how to properly use a weapon safely.

I feel like before he lost his memories he probably took on a fatherly role in the circus. Like when he had a bucket on his head he talked to Ragatha like a father would to a older sibling talking about a younger sibling (and in the truck chasesence he did tried to help Pomni). And now with Pomni he acts like a father trying to calm his kid down, he even protected her in this episode and cared for her when she got so scared her eyes poped out of her head.

Just as each artist has their style, each coder has their way of coding, and as such, their way of making errors.

There's a reason Kinger has survived the longest out of the players so far despite being seen as insane by others. His memory isn't the best when he's in the light so for him, it's like a dream whenever he's back to being lucid in the dark. And when he is lucid, the man is strong enough mentally to keep going despite the seemingly hopeless situation he is in.

(Gooseworx, the creator of TADC said it, and you can see it in some of Pomni's body language in previous episodes) So the fact that Kinger was able to process this about her says a lot about how patient and understanding he is. Touching her WOULD have only made her feel worse. And then before they walk down the hall of souls together, Kinger OFFERS Pomni his hand, he doesn't take her hand, and waits till she's comfortable with doing that before they proceed. As someone who has Autism and ADHD, I found Kinger’s ability to function better in darkness pretty relatable. She has a point about how information overload can make it much more difficult to recall things most of the time. It can be frustrating for all parties when I have a more difficult time recalling things that were said, or memories of what I witnessed because there are so many things my mind is trying to process at once (both in the memory, and in the present). Being in a space that tones down the sensory overload can make it much easier to problem solve and even recall things.

So I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Kinger's memories are _disorganized._ Because I 100% see it. I think Kinger remembers everything, it's just that his capability to recall everything as a concise sequence of events erodes when he's not in his comforting darkness. But he does remember, I am absolutely convinced. It's all just shrouded by "brain fog" if that makes sense. I have no proof but no also no doubts. And about you disliking Pomni's response to Jax asking how her time with Kinger was, I think this is two things. One it's just general show writing, it's quite common that characters give vague, short, indirect answers to potentially meaningful questions like that, for various reasons. And two, the reason, I think Pomni's quite avoidant or reserved, and given how much of a jerk Jax is, I don't think she would have wanted to open up to him about how meaningful her interaction with Kinger was.

Right from the start, I got the distinct impression that Kinger was dissociating from his surroundings -- something had happened to him that shook his hold on his personal reality, with trauma being the most likely candidate (the show's cast is a showcase of trauma responses). Even so, we got occasional glimpses at his lucid self whenever his _perception_ of that reality was being limited, as though the reduction in the amount of overwhelming stimuli was helping him focus; that improvement in focus as a result of narrowing the field of sensory information coming in lines up rather nicely with a facet of life on the autism spectrum, though I've spoken with other neurodivergent folks who relate to that as well, so Kinger being an Aspie might not necessarily be what they were aiming for (though it genuinely wouldn't surprise me if he _was!)._
@AnInsideJoke3 ай бұрын
I feel like the Digital Circus would be overstimulating for a full neurotypical person, so yeah, when you're neurodivergent, especially a type known for being very subseptable to overstimulation, like being on the autism spectrum, the Circus would feel like one of the rings of hell most of the time. I know my ADHD ass would be tempted to try and burn it to the ground within just the first day.

I recall reading a discussion on whether or not Kinger will remember how he treated Pomni while in "Hell", and someone said something along the lines of it's like knowing someone with dementia, they may not fully remember the exact events of what happened to them, but the feelings remain. Regardless of how much Kinger remembers from this particular adventure, he'll treat Pomni the way he always had... which, I suppose is simply being as helpful as he can be, with mixed results. Edit: I'll admit, I also don't like using the term "crazy" when it comes to describing Kinger, at least not anymore. I guess I was OK with that descriptor back when he just seemed like a goofy character, but now that I know he CAN keep it together, given the right circumstances, I feel that "crazy" isn't the best word to describe him. Maybe forgetful or "out-of-it", not fully aware of his surroundings, I feel like just calling him "crazy" doesn't fully grasp what Kinger's deal is and does a disservice to his character... which is why it's a little disappointing to see Pomni say he'll go back to "being crazy" when they leave. At the very least, she knows the true Kinger, or at least Kinger at his best now.

Whether it be it never crossed Kinger's mind to tell the other's, or if he genuinly can't remember or tell a difference when he is in the light again. Regardless, his speech to Pomni about as long as she remembers what happened, is all that matters.

How Kinger is in the dark also explains why he was so calm and rational while talking to Ragatha with a bucket on his head in the second episode. Poor guy will do anything to spend time in the dark. Also, can we just appreciate how much of an absolute sweetheart Kinger is? This absolutely precious man is very paternal, even when he's not all there mentally as he was the one to try and help Pomni put her eyes back in her head and dove after Gangle's mask and, as mentioned, eased some of Ragatha's worries back in episode 2. He also provides love and gentle guidance when Pomni needs it the most and even tells her not to worry about him, even though it's clear that he's dealing with his own struggles that Pomni would want to do something about. He's basically the polar opposite of Jax: polite, gentle, and selfless, even if his thoughts are a disorganized mess.

I think it's important to recognise the difference between a character using a negative word and the show using it. If the characters just call kinger crazy, that just shows that they themself aren't well educated on psychology or are even being intentionally mean like jax, but it's different from the show presenting a character as that thing. I think it's even worse if the characters are being nice to the character in question, but the character themselves are presented in a negative way, for example "hey don't bully our friend, thats not nice" and then the character is behaving in a way that is stereotypical or negative. It comes off as phony and disingenuous, while with kinger situation, it comes of as more that the characters aren't informed of his condition, rather than the creator.

Kinger’s backstory just broke my heart and when they showed his abstracted wife leaning into his hand, ugh, that was just such a sad and tender moment.😭😭😭 It’s also really sad that Kinger learned to like bugs because of his wife and that he likely doesn’t remember that being the reason why.🥺🥺🥺 I love Kinger protecting Pomni so many times in this episode as well as comfort her and give her advice on how to survive the circus.❤❤❤ Him being the literal and metaphorical light for her is just so wonderful and touching.🥹💕💕💕 What’s also really sad is that it seems like no one else in the circus know about Kinger’s backstory because Jax and Zooble keep referring to him as insane/a nut without knowing that he’s able to regain his cognitive abilities when in a dark environment like his pillow fort.🥺🥺🥺 I love your cosplay outfit by the way.😊❤

It was Jax who was asking so saying it not bad allows her to be honest without giving him ammunition to tease them. It is super sweet how they bonded together and it very clear Pomni now appreciates Kinger.
@lordnul17083 ай бұрын
In all fairness, Pomni's response to Jax towards the end could be more justified by who she was replying to. Jax was more than likely trying to get a rise out of her like he did earlier in the episode, and she wasn't giving that to him after what she and Kinger went through. I interpreted it as her dismissing Jax more than dismissing her experience with Kinger, but I can see where you're coming from with your opinion. Edit: fixed typos

11:28 that is interesting to me it means hes the only one that possibly knows who he was outside of the Digital Circus cause everyone else said they couldnt remember maybe its a glitch because of his memory issues or part of his own programing design before he went into the circus
@caracaracat29583 ай бұрын
10:09 the fact you say this is so interesting because when Kinger says earlier “7 years of computer science for this” it implies that he worked with computers before ending up in the Digital Circus- and as someone who learned computer sciences, I can tell you those subjects involved a LOT of high-level thinking and problem solving, so it makes perfect sense why Kinger has those qualities!

I think the reason Pomni only told Jax that her experience with Kinger "wasn't that bad" might be because Jax isn't exactly someone that is safe to be vulnerable with. Pomni already has a hard time opening up, it took her until this episode to recognize that Ragatha has been trying to help her. So, it's not unreasonable to think that she didn't tell Jax any details about her experience with Kinger because he's demonstrated being mean spirited on multiple occasions and she doesn't want Kinger to be a target of Jax's reticule or to have one of the few nice experiences she's had ruined for her (like how befriending an NPC was violently ripped away from her.)
@amsuherdi11113 ай бұрын
I think Kinger may have retained some memories. In episode 2, when Kingers wears a bucket on his head, he talks normally and remembers Ragatha's experiences when she first came to the circus. Though I'm not sure if his wife abstracted before or after that.

What I also enjoy about the glowing scene. Is the relatability it adds. Even with figures in our lives who seem infallible, who we look up to. They too still deal with the same issues we do. They're still like us. He might not wear it on his face, but he's still struggling too.

I love the symbolism of Kinger glowing when he holds his breath. It's a trait that's pretty useless and maybe even a bit annoying in times of brightness, but so vitally important when you're stuck in the dark. Just like Kinger himself who is usually too scattered to be helpful (even though he's always so quick to try to help, getting into trouble because he doesn't think before acting) but when the situation calls for it he gets focused and he absolutely rocks at solving problems. Even when the evil ghosts possessing Pomnio tried to attack him psychologically by mentioning his wife, he didn't even flinch or go berserk, he just kept beating the souls out of Pomni and stopped immediately when she was free of the possession.

4:34 when I was a kid there was a power outage which knocked out the elevator while I was inside of it. I was trapped in that elevator for an hour and a half until it repowered not knowing if I would ever escape and no one knowing where I was. Before that I loved elevators and would jump on them for no other reason to ride them up and down every floor. Now when I'm inside one I get the overwhelming urge to escape that gets worse if somebody's in there with me. You would think the idea of getting stuck in an elevator with someone would be better than without someone but I'm autistic and terrified of socialization so being stuck with someone I don't know in an elevator is an even bigger nightmare

I think the reason why she said "It wasn't that bad" could also be that she really hadn't had a chance to process any of it so she could distill her thoughts down into something more articulate. Plus, Jax isn't someone she can be vulnerable to.

One of the things that made me fall in love with how they wrote Kinger even only in episode 1 is that despite being the least sane of the group, he is still very kind. It felt comforting seeing a character that isn't portrayed as destructive due to their mental struggles.

Memories are powerful, even the ones who aren't the happiest, but still leave an impact. In Harry Potter, dementors are evil spirits that feed on the trauma of others, causing the victims to fall into depression, or in Harry's case, pass out. The key to defeat them is to think of your happiest memories, while casting the Patronus- charm. Harry beat them by focusing on the time he first saw his parents in the Mirror of Erised. It wasn't "happy" per se but still powerful enough to beat the dementors. Kinger's memory of his wife- even when already abstracted- is enough to survive in this madhouse, and even help others survive, in the right circumstances.

To me, i think Kinger has been in the circus long enough that he’s starting to legitimately lose himself to data fragmentation. After so long of a program running and compiling data, at some point it starts slipping. We’ve seen the computer the circus is hosted on, and its an ancient machine, probably doesn’t even have an ssd, so the harddrive is more likely to undergo fragmentation. He’s an old program, maybe in there for years, on an old computer, and dealing with constant pressures and traumas that can affect him mentally. Of course he’s gonna be scatter brained, he’s legitimately being scattered.

I liked how the series(and you)deep dived into Kinger's character: Everyone brushes off Kinger as insane, when in reality, he's dealing with mental health issues a lot of the elderly have, in this case probably dementia, where ignorant people dismiss as crazy. I also remember a psychologist interview video on KZbin I watched while taking a Psychology class in college, and they said the same thing: they dislike the term "crazy". (I agree, it's on par with "I can fix them".)

For the longest time before viewing Episode 3, I was thinking Kinger withdrawing into his pillow fort was an extension of a E5 fixation. But I love how this episode managed to completely recontextualize his character.

@fahriagung-_.2 ай бұрын
24:45 Not to deny it, but in my opinion, because Pomni still has trauma from Caine's adventure, and also because she is not as good as Ragatha and her conversation partner is Jax. Pomni didn't speak too frankly because who knows, you might get teased by Jax in the next episode (and because she just got to know Kinger better in that episode). I think Pomni's reply is still good

9:14 to add to this, in addition to giving hope Kinger is also trying to help Pomni rationalize and give her a path through her anxiety. He knows they're on one of Cain's adventures, while Pomni is still in the middle of coming to terms with her new and very cursed reality. He's being a sweet mentor🥺

I love this episode not only for what it provided itself but it brings insight into Kinger's behaviour in previous episodes. Not only did we see a glimpse of a moment him being clear headed in the second episode when he had the bucket on his head and explains why specifically he likes being in his pillow fort, but throughout the whole show he consistently tries to help people out, even if usually he fumbles his hard. His heart is in the right place and his first instinct is consistently to help others out

One thing to mention is that when he was holding the shotgun and Pomni stepped forward he (seemingly instinctively) pulled the shotgun up to avoid pointing it at her when she was moving past him. These "muscle memory" skills are also among the most resilient things and least likely to be lost or forgotten. (even people with serious amnesia can still remember how to walk, swim, ride a bike, etc. for instance) His barrel discipline there strongly indicates that he's previously been well-trained with firearms and kept that skillset, even if he doesn't remember that he has it.
@ZetaNiGHT3 ай бұрын
I think Kinger definitely DOES retain parts of his experiences with people, thinking about how he said to Ragatha that he remembers how stressed out and anxious she was when she first arrived at the circus. I think his genuine memories are definitely sprinkled intermittently in with his more erratic thoughts and responses.

its a weird time for me when this episode came out i saw how protective kinger is with pomni and knowing his backstory i get why he was once he can finally focus and recall enough memory to be normal i didn't know this until yesterday but one of my best friends dads passed away. when this episode came out it was a few days after he passed. and the reason i feel for kinger and feel protective like he is is due to the fact my friends dad was murdered in a road rage incident and it has hit me hard i spent the last 24 hours on and off with crying and tearing up. i am going through so many emotions and grief right now and its hard since it just happened however i know as time passes i will come to accept what happened and still feel sad but at the same time value my life and my family and friends more than before
