I'm so happy proper Geoguessr is back. I love the adventure series, the straight line challenges, the Geo Detective videos, BUT I subscribed to your channel over 5 years ago because you were and still are the most entertaining Geoguessr on KZbin (I mean, for a while you were the ONLY one as far as I know). I've missed these videos so much because nobody does it better. Makes me so happy. Thanks Tom! EDIT: I just want to reiterate that the adventure videos, especially the latest Wales Straight Line and How to NOT Travel in Europe, are some of the best examples of storytelling on KZbin. Masterfully scripted and wonderfully edited, they kept me on the edge of my seat and left me wanting more and more and more. It goes without saying but the amount of work you put into those videos is outstanding and unbelievable.

Nobody really does it better! I been watching a lot of geoguessr from twitch streamers, youtubers in the absence of tom’s geoguessr video but this is still the most entertaining by far. Hello, Tom. Cool video and I am happy to see you back in GeoGuessing. Here are some interesting tips for rounds you have played: 2:33 As you've said, Italian plates have blue on both sides but the key thing here is that the car in the distance has narrow front plate (bcz only Italy has narrow front plates in Europe I believe). Secondly, Switzerland has lower camera like Japan, so it couldn't be Switz. 7:00 There were some good clues in this round. First of all, the general feeling, vegetation, greenery... Then, the bottom of the pole is painted in yellow and black, which is common in South America, especially in Colombia. And the third thing is small anthena. Btw in Cambodia soil would often be red. 11:25 The main thing in this round was Chilean car. In Argentina and Uruguay you would always have black car and Chile always has white car. (in South America white car could be found in Peru, Bolivia, and Chile usually). Also, the architecture felt coastal but it was not African with those houses even though that South Africa has white car as well. 16:15 In the South America often Argentina, Uruguay and Peru have black car. 17:23 In this round you have red-ish soil which is mostly common in Brazil and Cambodia. Also, you have tipical Brazilian pole which looks like Portuguesse one and has "sections" in it. 20:30 Again, red soil and double yellow is that, that gave it away along with bus which had Brazilian colours on itself. You had maybe known all these thing but I just wanted to share it with you. If I am mistaken, someone can correct me. And sorry if any word is written incorrect or any phrase because I am not that good in English. And again, cool video Tom. Keep going!

I've definitely seen the standard for a lot of Geoguessr streaks and things go up recently, but so many of them use the camera styles and other 'meta" things. I feel that kind of defeats the point - you know, actually recognizing the locations and the climate/language/culture etc. It's nice just seeing videos like this one, where your familiarity with the countries' environments was your main guide. Lot's of fun!

I love all of the GeoGuessr pros, but I think what I really love about your style, Tom, is that it really feels like you play the maps and the landscape. While people like Chicago and zi8gzag are incredible at GeoGuessr maps and really picking out the details (gen 1 vs gen 4 coverage, artifacts from the cameras, recognizing the google car, etc), it feels like you really play the actual environment. Things like mountains, sun location, and small environmental details are things that are actually applicable to knowing these countries. FWIW I have no doubt that those guys are also incredible with the environments, but it does feel like a lot of times they're playing the game and not interpreting the environments.

FYI one US/Canada distinction is the mail boxes. US has the red flags for indicating whether you have outgoing mail. Canada Post doesn't pick up outgoing mail from your mailbox. Actually Canada Post doesn't even do individual mail boxes for a lot of rural places any more, they have these group mailboxes. Helps a lot on these rural addresses.
@oscarlomas12 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, I suspect you know this and consciously do Diverse World mode so you can make specific location guesses and judge your distances, etc… but in case you didn’t know there is actually a specific “country streaks” mode on the Geoguessr homepage designed to count your total streak, and select the entire country instead of placing a pin, etc! It saves you having to start a new game every 5 guesses and keep count yourself!
