Last year, the EU approved 12 sanction packages against Russia and the Russian economy grew 3%. Meanwhile, the German economy is in "tatters". The EU sanctioned itself.

As an educator working in California schools for more than 25 years, I see the system rewarded academic merits far less than an athletic scholarship for students. Athletes are revered while academic talents are inconspicuous in American education systems. Great conversation gentlemen.

Well, in EU football is its main industry though the number of real EU players are not that many; whilst in US, sportsmen are rewarded more than their scholars in such scenario, they surely can't compete with the progress of the Orientals in development and industrial progress. So unless they elect practical leaders from countries like Hungary, Norway, Spain etc, EU will be just another developing zone like African, Central and South America but with the later progressing towards the end of this century.

Carl is right, many Chinese scientists are returning back to their motherland with much keeness to teach the Chinese students their expertise. Eg. Prize-winning US physicist Gao Huajian returns to China after decades overseas -source SCMP. ‘Master researcher’ joins Tsinghua University for next chapter of glittering international career that has included top awards in his field The expert in solid mechanics said he is thrilled to be back in China and hopes to inspire his students to do cutting-edge research

As per 33:13 , Jack Ma, the richest person in China, a few years ago, gave a speech in which he criticized China's policy of building the country with the needs of the people first, he was arguing that China should be more like America and that China should build its country with the needs of the rich first. It was a preposterous statement, the Chinese government arrested Jack Ma right away, and then released him immediately, I presume that they read him the riot act. He has since stopped hocking that "trickle down economics" nonsense.

Dr O in the 1980s the quality of tertiary education in USA was reputable. I agree with u the concept of consumerism is added into education. That means universities r not centre of education but centre of student friendly n producing mass graduates. It is sad.

Concerning your points on US education, this has been going on for decades going back to the 1980s. Even in the military, many of the brightest were usually born and educated abroad. Imagine the screening for MI was reduced to one US born citizen among a final five selected. Just FYI. Your education is very important.

The Chinese test shoot launched dummy-headed ICBM (code name DF-31AG) with trajectory travelled 12,000KM and hit at predicted high sea location near Marquesas Islands in S. Pacific. This marks a historic moment in two aspects for the first time in the history namely a)a UNSC member state shot explosive hit near US proper since WW I, and b)a direct break free or penetration thru by China and entered into the center of 3rd island chain (Hawaii) where US military central command in Pacific located. The coincide with prevailing Chinese war philosophy that “You prepare for war to prevent a war”, The effect of this, I hope, is Pentagon can think cool-headed before any attempt to wage conflict, including proxy, with China in the future.

The USA had wanted to control the Pacific Rim as their "outer periphery" ever since Matthew Perry's 1853 "visit" to Tokyo Bay to coerce Japan out of isolation. Only the American Civil War, and the need to focus on the USA, saved these island nations at the time, from the same fate of Hawaii or the Philippines ("morphed" as geopolitical staging areas, or use as imperialist proxies for US systemic expansion). One could say that the Manifest Destiny didn't stop when it reached the US West Coast. It continued into the Pacific. Perry stated at some point that he wished for the USA to take Formosa as US overseas territory as well, but Japan beat the USA to it (1895). Now they are back. Taiwan must be "morphed" to become a US asset and proxy. A "next Ukraine."

Carl, try bicycle, much safer. The problems with Japanese, South Korean, Filipino and Taiwanese, allies and the U.S. governments are people on foot in the middle lane of a day time freeway traffic trying to get off the freeway. How many cars can the US and friends dodge before someone got run over? The 1.4 billion Chinese are the oncoming cars. How would you resolve this situation Dr. O? Only one of them on footer got a working cellphone…with one bar of battery life left… love your insightful thoughts and brave questions. Your time is most appreciated as always.

China tests fires an ICBM in 40 years. 1) China is not a signatory to the Non Nuclear Proliferation Treaty with other nuclear powers, including the USA and Nato countries. 2) America is weak, very weak in the Pacific Ocean. a) From the North Pole to the Kuriles Islands. B) from Queensland Australia to LA USA and C) the Southern Oceans and Antarctica. The US and SQUAD are strong from the Philippines to LA. The USA is vulnerable in the other three theatres above. An attack against North America will occur in one or all these weak points.
