@@deborahgonzalezknight168 How is it going? I bought a guitar in 2005 (Rosie) and hit a brick wall. Got to barre F and quit. Picked it back up 16 years later for that same guitar to punish me and I screwed my thumb joints up so much I had to quit for six months as the 24x7 pain I had almost required surgery. Back at it again for about a month taking it slowly. I still feel the twinges in the thumb joints but making a lot of progress as I purchased two guitars. The first one I was using when I had to quit (damage had already been done) was a Bullet Mustang for my extremely small hands (my longest finger is not much longer than a standard AA battery). After I came back I just did not want an electric as having to get the amp, drag it out, jack in, the practise then unplug, stash the amp I said enough and for a birthday gift I grabbed an Alt30 electro-acoustic. Love it as the neck is thin for what I need, but the 25.5in scale kills me (especially for the C-Chord). The exercises do help for sure.

I am 59 yo and have been trying to learn for several years. I have had 3 teachers over 6-7 years, and paid a lot of $, but none of them taught me the exercises and techniques Lauren taught in the first video and this one. I have never been able to make the chord changes quickly or smoothly enough to actually play any songs. So, I paused my learning many times because I did not progress. I don't remember how I found Lauren's first video, about a week ago, but these two lessons are by far the most important I have ever had. I am finally making progress. These fundamental exercises are challenging and enjoyable. Maybe I can actually learn to play and not keep stopping and starting 😊 Thank you Lauren. You are the first, and only teacher, including dozens of popular online teachers, to slow down, break it down, identify the most difficult challenges and barriers, then teach in a clear way that I can actually follow. I'm another older beginner, 67, started at Christmas (Guitar, an SX Strat, was a Christmas gift) I now have 2 guitars (an Epiphone Les Paul Studio as well). I dip in and out of your videos, which are always very useful, as well as others. I did this exercise every day for a few months, and whilst you don't notice much difference day to day, over the 2 months though the dexterity improved a lot. My index finger has been broken so only gets used for a couple of chords so the middle 2 and the pinky do most of the work. 7 months in and I think I'm maybe ahead of where I thought I might be at this stage. This exercise definitely helped. Recently learned the riff from La Bamba and can really knock that out now which needs a bit of finger speed. Keep up the great work Lauren.👍

She said “don’t forget to breathe” At that moment I realized I was holding my breath 😅😂
@LaurenBateman Жыл бұрын
Ha ha ha. Isn't that funny? Happened all the time in lessons. I would ask students, are you breathing?

That ring finger part is tough. Also I could really feel that in my forearm muscles afterwards
@LaurenBateman3 жыл бұрын
Yea it's a toughy. Try and keep that forearm relaxed. Breathe through it. Never force it.

Thanks Lauren!! I need these basics, or I'll never learn to play song that actually sounds like a song!!
@LaurenBateman4 жыл бұрын
It's all about the basics. When you learn a song it's just putting a bunch of those basics together like a puzzle piece

I tried the exercise today for the first time and after I was done I tried the chord C and G minor that you mentioned! I‘m still blown away how much more quicker I was on G-Minor… great exercise! Will use it again!

Wow. I really can't move my ring finger up and down. It's really really hard omg. Thank you for showing these exercises. I started playing guitar last week, and I'm learning by myself and this has really helped. Thank you

I also studied alone ... a long time ago. There was no internet yet, which made it much harder. But you have to keep practicing. The nice thing is: you actually have a success every day - a little more every day - hold on! You will have a lot of fun with this hobby.

@@Paul_9.53 thank you. I'll continue practicing, although my left hand is half paralyzed

@@Jay-hb6dl I'm sorry. But maybe playing the guitar will help you feel better again. I wish it to you

Thank you for this amazing video!! I was an amazing guitar player 20 years ago, it's been a long and sometimes frustrating journey trying to reteach myself this skill, but I'm determined! Your videos are my favorite, this exercise has already been so helpful. The C to G transition gets me everytime!! I do feel a lot of pain in my left wrist and some tension in my shoulder when I do this. I have been watching videos about proper hand positioning which is obviously the problem. I have to yet to find my solution. Thanks Lauren for your wonderful instruction!
@LaurenBateman3 жыл бұрын
Are you using a guitar strap and pointing your guitar neck upwards? That can help with proper wrist ergonomics.

The weird thing is that I'm self-taught and the pinky is my problem finger not the third one, I think it's because I'm not used to involving it into any chords it's just hanging there most the time
@LaurenBateman3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the pink isn't easy by any means.
