I use to argue up and down that the vanilla UI was fine because i just added in some weakauras for very important things like my insanity drain and stacks but now I can see why people use different UI setups and I have finally gotten myself a different UI thanks preach.

UI matters, ask any equipment operator, or room full of them, If SAE or ISO controls matter.... This also applies to Keybinding and Mouse turning, when you change your control UI standard, you are going to spend days just getting back to passable operation, and week before you do not revert when something unexpected happens. Equipment operators are often asked "ISO or SAE?" before a job interview goes any further, since some equipment will not switch between the UI schemes.

The only thing that needs to be modified is center-placed health and spell bars. I do prefer to have more minimalist frames for both of those elements though. That and DBM.

I have been using the standard UI for the last few months whilst levelling (slowly). Iv downloaded yours and am getting used to it, a lot to take at first but I’m getting there. Now just to decide on an actually class to concentrate on! (Paladin, monk, shaman or ranged dps...so much to choose!)

As an added point: The UI gets even worse when you get yourself a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor. Even more eye travel needed. Default UI becomes basically unplayable.

1st thing you do is interface-names-keep nameplates on-larger nameplates 2nd thing you do is go to weakauras2 google-type “fire mage bracer proc”-enter-go to website-find string-copy string-import string.

The best way I've ever explained this concept was by pointing a webcam at my face, zooming in to my eyes, disabling all my addons, and running an lfr. Then, same character, same camera setup, I ran the same bosses on lfr again with all my addons enabled. I edited the two camera feeds together, side by side, and I now have an excellent comparison video to use to show how much eye movement is required to play well without a proper ui.

No you dont. as a webcam dont see the actual micro movments. Also what size is your monitor when testing this and what is it now? and how far away are you from said monitor. And what where you trying to do in said lfr did you do the same things did people do the same things. Do you need to look at your action bar to use abilities? see all of these are things that would change how your eyes moves and i am not listing half of what i can think of that would change how much your eyes moves.

made my UI back in WoD. havent changed it drastically since. Looks very similar to yours with the only difference being that when im not in combat its very very minimal. I only keep the debuffs separate near the minimap. This is because i can have a clear view of it without getting distracted by rest of my active ui on the side. Want notice it exactly clearly when something appears on that very empty space.

Its hard to change the position of the character's name/healthbar , since i've got used to it (playing like this 10-11 years). And i tried to move it in the past and it went bad: in crusial "oh shit" moments, my eyes still went to the top corner instantly, whereas the health bar now was in the middle. So, i changed it back. Now, i guess i could adapt to the new way instead of restoring it, but i didnt bother since my brain/eyes got used to that original UI. This only applies to the hp/nameplate bar. I've customised everything else.

Tidy plates really helps for your target’s health so I put it on the sides with my debuffs. My health is still up there but a lot more to the left and a bit down where I can always see it. That’s my ui really. My raid team and recount boxes are on the bottom right. And my dbm countdowns right next to the chat box cause I have to always keep track of them as a raid leader. That’s really all I need. I tried using bartender or elv ui but it’s just not worth it and kinda useless. Blizzard’s ui is good just don’t use the default ui and just like preach said put everything at a place where you can always track it easily. Don’t ever throw a glance at something that is on the other side of the screen and lose all focus on what’s going on in the fight.

I use SpartanUI to localize everything at the bottom. My eyes naturally wander the screen and I don't suffer, especially when I'm tanking or healing. I have tried using the UI's that have everything in the middle and I just can't focus my eyes on them and on what is going on during the fight. But at the same time, I don't raid mythic. I only raid normal and heroic and I do fairly decent. To each their own on what makes them a better player.

Single biggest issue with Blizz standard UI is profiles (or rather the lack of). Yes you can set up a lot of the stuff in the standard UI but the moment you switch to another character it's back to square one!

100% agree I couldnt play shadow mid tier mythic raid style without a inanity bar above my (also moved and costumized) castbar, a voidform stack tracker, a boss frame alittle moved to the center to track dots, a cd tracker for my spells like mind blast/ void bolt etc (All of thats done with weakaura) And fyi once my weakauras failed and i coudlnt make it above 40 stacks because i had no visual feedback for my drain and i had to look up to the rop right to check my stacks, sure muscle memory locks in but its not effective without visual feedback

Haha the default ui has some sweet visuals but is overall located in very inconvenient places it wasn't designed for hardcore players or even moderate players it was designed with gaming graphical visuals in mind to get the newer players hooked, new players typically don't start with any add-ons or macros or any enhancements to the game at all in fact majority of them are clickers, but eventually like any good player they'll grow out of it, quit, or just be bad in a group worst than them and basically dominate that group because they are playing with worst players than them it happens but eventually we all grow out of newbyism and gain understanding that something isn't working as fast as we want or something is taking too long to cast, once that happens we hit the web, find stuff like this and use it, myself I prefer having the bottom bar because I like the visuals of it, but I have my own very specific setup for how to.use it properly and it works for me

I actually think that's ElvUI doing this. Which is an addon that's sort of an all-in-one package. I usually found that it takes up way too much space in its default settings, so you're going to have to tinker a bit with it (or have a very large screen).

Although I agree with the general idea of having everything centralized in a UI, I do not agree with how you kind of blacked out the sides of the screen. I think it would be better for a player to learn how to see everything on their monitor rather than just whats happening on half of it. That is, in my opinion, how soaks can get missed on KJ. I may be over analyzing but just my 2 cents. Great video by the way love everything you do on this channel.

Default blizz ui normie here. I play healer so i usually look at the raid frames so mine is included in there aswell (i use character recourse to watch my mana). I mostly rely on sensory stuff to prepape for things like BW different colored bars that draw my eye's attention to abilities that require extra attention, WA sounds and stuff like that. I actually hate having a clutter in the middle of the screen. Peripheral vision takes care of the rest little things i may forgetting.

ElvUI is really messy, so I wouldn't recommend it. Takes up way too much space. I felt like I could see even less than with the default UI. You're better off downloading individual addons and just making your UI more slim. You can keep the borders while still moving your more important spells to the center.

I tried ur UI for garothi I get your UI and I honestly love it but my god I don't understand how you see mechanics with everything where it is(I moved minimal stuff if at all) I personally use the standard UI with very few addons changing it I guess im just stupid used to it cause I parse 90's or higher most of the time and I don't fuck up mechanics to the point where it hinders the raid ofc. Changing your UI will not immediately "work" for you. It'll take time to get used to it, because you're used to seeing things in a certain location. The idea is that you keep using it and eventually you'll get used to it. Aside from that, it is fairly easy to change the location of the various addons and where on the screen they're shown if you think there's too much in the middle and want to spread it out a little.

I can't stand the way the custom UIs look, I would be willing to try out a clumped type UI if I got to keep it at least LOOKING like the standard blizzard way. I just recently got Bartender and basicly orgasmed at seeing that I get 4 bonus 12 button bars to use but basicly just stacked them ontop of my current bars so it would look the same. I have been using weakauras and clique adds together to basicly simulate this for a while now but got sick of having to make custom WAs just so I can see the thing I want above my basic bars. With bartender I got rid of clique completely and deleted all of thise WAs I used to look like an ability on a bar that was not there.

You should have called this unit frames, not UI, as it is in fact, not a UI setup guide, but a unit frame setup guide. Also, the default frames are fine, and the only real required mod for pve anymore is simply DBM.

The deffault Blizzard UI may not be very practical, but its much better looking. When you play a game like WoW, you want ot enjoy it so it's important that you like what you see on your screen. I believe that with some changes, you can make the blizzard UI more practical, because i know that not every one is fond of seeing a big fat icon in the middle of you screen so that you can be a "better player". The point is that i think there's no need of putting 100% of the stuff in the middle of your screen, only some essential ones, but that's subjective. i still use the blizzad ui for my spell bar, everything else i have in the middle of my screen. i struggle as a result to hit above 97 percentile on parses. its slows me down everrrr so slightly but ive not found an addon that can just let me move the spellbar close to the middle even if its just 1 2 3 4 5

The addons he uses are the most typical generic addons basically everyone has. Elvui a dmg meter. Tellmewhen/weakauras. Dbm. Really everyone should have most of these

Yeah elvui for sure. It's pretty much all the ui addons combined. Name plates, bar cutomization, unit frames. Everything is customizable. Dbm for raiding. skada, weakauras or tellmewhen.

ElvUI is easy to use, personally I prefer using a mixture of Shadowed Unit Frames, Bartender, KUI Nameplates, Sexymap, AffDots, Quartz, OmniCC, Masque and Vuhdoo. If you want most of that functionality in ONE add on, take elvui, easier to set up one thing than 5, 6, 7, or however many (it's just a visual preference for me)

i personally think full UI changes like ElvUI are complete dogshit. you can use bartender which just allows you to adjust bars, pick TMW or weakauras to track your hp and buffs/debuffs/cds, and grab a mini map addon if you are so inclined, but i find the default mini map to be fine. dont really see a point in changing that, it doesnt affect gameplay in a raid so why bother?

You need: something for your spell bars, something for your unit frames (player and enemy health bars and such), something for your party and raid frames and something to track spells/cooldowns/abilities/procs. Which addons in specific isn't important, but I use Bartender, ShadowedUnitFrames, Grid2 and WeakAuras for each task respectively. You can get some addons that do all of it combined (like ElvUI), but I always find that their default settings take up way too much space on my screen and often they're not nearly as customizable as you would have hoped. Additionally you need a boss mod if you're going to raid, but that's less to do with making your UI clean.

Here preach you are doing some really large logical leaps just because it is often used in high end is not a indication of it being the best way to play it is a indication of the standard way to play at top end that does not mean that people on the top end could not make it better. The reason what you are saying here is a halfway truth is because of eye sight and also the screen size, something you are completley ignoring here. 1. i am not a good player 2. i am not a bad player i am usualy around 6th place on the dps meter with my ret paly in our guild. sometimes higher sometimes lower. we are not a hard core guild and we take a more leaned back aproach to antorus as we will most likely be spending some time there so no need to rush it. we are currently doing heroic i think we have 6 or 7 bosses down atm each week we down a couple more we have alot of fun and i enjoy raiding but i utterly hate ui's that put shit into the middle of my screen i enjoy the looks of wow, its a stunning game and i utterly dislike stuff shoved into my face. i actualy play with the vanilla wow ui well i dragged my portait and my target down to the bottem half of my screen in the middle and thats about as much stuff in my face as i can bear. maybe it would improve my dps if i had more information there but for me it wouldnt be worth it at all. i do reasonable well (eventhough im a ''slight'' bit less geared then other ppl in my guild or rather in the raid (last raid i got 4 ilvls from a single ring that droped for me because i still had a shitty 885 ring) i dont do mythic plus i just dont enjoy it and i mean im probably 5-10 ish ilvls beneath the guy on 5th place on the dps meter and there is not much of a gap between our dps and ret is one of the lower/mid tier classes so i guess im doing pretty good where i am

You can experience all of the beautiful game with a customised UI. But you need to be willing to accept change. Clearly you're one of those that cannot handle change. I bet it must suck changing from Windows XP to Vista, to 7, 8 and 10 and the different GUI that comes with it.
