Hey Woolie! Some trivia for you! Amano is actually a master killer swordsman but fights with it sheathed because drawing his blade would make the fight too easy for him. In Last Blade 2, he's actually out to murder some dudes but his sword turns out to be so beat up and busted that he has to fight with it sheathed anyway to prevent it from breaking.

And since we're going for trivia background... Kojiro Sanada isn't related to Washizuka Keichirou. Kojiro appears in LB1, and has a low, male voice. In LB2 Kojiro Sanada is actually missing, and his sister (I forget her name, I think Washizuka mentions it) is impersonating him in order to search for him.

Actually, I think he was just on his way to get his beat-up sword repaired by Hibiki's dad. From what I remember, his sword has always been a cheap piece of shit... but because he was such a master, it never mattered to him.

So, Akari can't be killed because children protection act, but it works differently than what Woolie thought. Unlike pre-VSP Nakoruru, who has lethal moves straight up not work on her, if hit by a fatal move, Akari will appear to be cut in half and die... only for her to be revealed to be a shikigami while the real Akari pops out to sulk. What happened was that Reggie used the wrong super.

Probably my favorite part about this game is actually mask mode. No one can tell how much meter or health anyone has. It makes shit really tense when you gotta do math on top of it. Also There is a code that unlocks a third groove after you pick a character; Hit Kick 6 times on Speed, hit Heavy Slash 3 times on Power, then hit Kick 4 times on speed again and you unlock Extreme or EX mode. You get the combo strings and the command overhead of Speed and all the supers raw power per normal and chip damage of Power with some unique avenues for a lot of characters, but you don't get Plinking or super cancels from power (and obviously not the unblockable), and you don't get the custom combo from speed, while getting half as much meter and taking twice as much damage.

The way that the Last Blade's setting is set up (Autumn in the Bakumatsu, iirc though it could be july) feels so steeped in symbolism about the death of the traditional samurai and the old ways of feudal Japan that it's almost a shame it's used on a fighting game series. Almost.

Rule number 1 against fighting other players: Trying to do super seems only necessary to do during some hits/chain. Doing it raw requires timing and knowing when a AI screws up

The best fighting game of all time in my opinion... Zantetsu is the jam (also my opinion). You can just demoralize people with endless throwing knives and combo or takedown aggression. IIRC there is some way to do an infinite combo with him in some version...? Anyway, check this tourney if you didn't already.
