@ItalianCitizenshipAssistance and @RafaelDiFuria Just an FYI that as of last October, the Italian consulates in the US are now offering the Italian Electronic ID Cards. I went to the Detroit consulate yesterday with my kids and got ours ordered. The consular officer told me that there is a new agreement with the US where the US will recognize the Italian ID cards and that is why they are now issuing them here. The IDs are expected to be delivered to me in about a month per the consular officer.

One additional piece of information about obtaining a Italian passport for a minor in the United States - they need to have their US Passport to prove their identity.

Does the new ID card replace the Codice Fiscale?

No, they’re not the same. Although the individual tax code (Codice Fiscale) is indicated on the back of the ID card, the latter is the only document valid for identification purposes.
