Getting Help For The Convent's Bell

My uncle was a contractor and my father would sometimes work with him. They were renovating a rectory at a church and my uncle misread the print and knocked down a wall that was to stay. They rebuilt it but the whole room had a hand made plaster crown molding around it and he destroyed it and had no idea how to replace it. One day while unloading a delivery some old man started talking to my father and asking him questions. Then he tells him that he worked on the original construction of the rectory about 40 yrs before in 1938. My father asked him what he did there and he tells him he was the plaster guy and yes, he did all the moldings by hand. My uncle tells the guy what happened and this guy, who was like 70, tells them if they build him a scaffold easy for him to get up and down from he'd do it for them just for the fun of it. He did a perfect match and my uncle insisted on paying him a pile of money for this unbelievable, either divine intervention or the luckiest coincidence ever.

Having Ryan do the video and editing was the best choice you’ve made for the channel. Not because there was anything wrong with Billy’s filming or editing but the fact that it has freed billy up to get meaningful work done everyday while it’s still being able to get documented in daily videos.

Its progressing very well in the office area of the Convent, thanks to a great team. Lovely to see Gwen there today, as we rarely see her but know she works just as hard as everyone else. I love the new format. Billy overseeing and doing the work with the other guys and Ryan asking the questions and roaming and capturing all the work going on around the convent. Hi Billy .. saw you pressure washing on you vlog in your yard a few days ago at the convent.Just a tip if you haven't done so already ? Make sure you sweep in some Kiln dried sand after cleaning. This will help stabilize your blocks and keep them held together and stop them from coming loose.I am self employed and have my own pressure washing business. I have 2 very powerfull industrial cleaners and all the equipment should you need any help or advice in future. I am in the UK but visit our house in France a couple of times a year for 3 weeks at a time which is in a village just down the road from you at La Bazouge Du Desert.I am over spring next year and will be bringing my pressure washing gear with me to clean the moss of our tarmac drive amongst a few other jobs. I also am a keen woodworker and make lots of stuff from home.I also work part time at a friends factory doing the wooden treads for bespoke Spiral Staircases. If you have trouble finding the Spiral Staircase you need for the convent ? I am sure they will be able to sort you out. :) Regards Kelvin and Sonja

the further down towards the center of gravity of the bell the spindle shafts are located, the easier the bell swings. My grandfather I. T Verdin of Cincinnati, Ohio made bells.

Re: Sagging - an extra piece is absolutely needed. I used to work for a pipe organ company, and wood sagging under load (especially after 100 years) is definitely a concern! Had to brace up a few swell boxes that were sagging 6" or more.
