Using the pizza delivery guy for a ride home is the most American thing I've heard today 😅
@llamasugar54782 ай бұрын
I did that once. I got to my friend’s hometown on the Greyhound. I got out of the bus and realized I had no idea where her street was. I saw a pizza place across the road, and thought “They’ll know where G___ Street is.” I walked over, went in, and walked up to the counter. “Hi,” I said, “I’m not from around here, and I need to go to this address.” I showed them the address, and one of the delivery guys said he knew it, but it was “a good ways away.” I must’ve looked very dejected (it had been a looong bus ride), because he offered to “deliver” me. That was nearly 40 years ago, and my friend _still_ teases me about showing up in a pizza-delivery car.

Ah yes: the classic “we see you couldn’t afford that, here’s a penalty fee to make you extra poor!”

If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Stop blaming the companies who are offering value to others
@jfrazz9729Ай бұрын
@@borisjoffe to be clear, I was talking about those times that you pay for whatever with your debit card, let’s say a tank of gas, on Thursday, and you don’t realize that you’re a dollar short. You get paid on Friday. Then you get penalized $35 on Monday. But if you don’t live hand to mouth like many Americans, you’re in your own bubble. I’m empathetic to your situation. That’s a tough place to be. Here’s hoping you find the help you need to right your circumstances. Bless you and your family. I wish you only the best.
@borisjoffeАй бұрын
@@jfrazz9729 It's your responsibility to make sure you have enough money in your account. There's also overdraft protection which are free at some banks. The people who get these fees are usually not $1 short once. They're consistently bad with money. I see tons of people consistently making bad financial decisions and then complaining about their consequences. And it's not just poor people. I see rich people making stupid choices as well. In my last year of high school, I realized I was taught nothing about personal finance so I went on the internet and started reading some blogs. Within about a year of casual reading, I knew more than most of my peers and even adults about personal finance. And I make sure to keep learning new things (investing, retirement, etc) as well so that I'm financially secure. It's your responsibility to teach yourself about money and use it responsibly. There's tons of good free information out there on the internet as long as you avoid TikTok and get-rich-quick schemes.

Yes. I mean, he's just making jokes here, but it's sad that some people really do think this way. My opinion: He's just poor, but he doesn't know how to be poor. I've been laid off before. • How's he eating bacon & eggs if he's broke?! 🤨 Even if you have it in the fridge or freezer when you loose your job, I wouldn't waste it on one serving of one meal. You could use one rasher of bacon to flavor a whole dish with multiple servings. You could use the egg to make fried rice, or to bake something. • And I definitely don't go to any kind of restaurant if I'm that poor (not even the dollar menu -- if they still have those!). • When I was laid off, I was fortunate enough to have some savings, but I still stopped spending except for the cheapest groceries that can be stretched the furthest, like rice, beans, potatoes, carrots, zucchini. No dairy, or packaged foods. Only drink water (from the tap). • I looked in the pantry, fridge, & freezer to see what I had on hand first, and how I could make the best use of it. I got creative with things I had like mixing salsa, black beans, & corn together. If I had chips, it was a dip -- if not, it was soup. I still remember the feeling of walking into the grocery store, after I finally found a new job. I was so happy I could afford to buy cheese, or ice cream, or anything I wanted (within reason, of course). It was a profound feeling of freedom & gratitude. • You can also ask your family & friends for help. Even if they can't loan you money, they could probably have you over for dinner. Most people's mom would be happy to have them come by to visit. Maybe you know someone with a fruit tree in their yard. • See if there are community resources, like unemployment, food stamps, community gardens or backyard fruit sharing programs, soup kitchens, or food banks. If you belong to a church, you can see if they can help you. • If you're really broke, you can cancel your internet & use the library. If you can't pay your bills, you can call & ask for an extended grace period, a payment plan, or see if they will waive late fees. You can ask about a less expensive basic service plan. There are a lot of things you can do to stretch your budget & resources.

@@miriamrobarts Bingo! I've been in the "I can't afford luxuries" position before even though I was working, I didn't make much yet I managed to pay for my car, feed my pets and myself, car insurance after a little help from my parents and gas in my car upon ending my marriage to my ex husband. I didn't have rent or utilities to pay since I lived in my parents'house but when your job only pays $125 a week on average and gas was over $4 a gallon, you better know how to stretch a dollar.
@coleengoodell75232 ай бұрын
Yep, I've been poor and would be considered poor right now. I don't eat out. I don't go anywhere to get anything if I don't really need it and I have money in the bank and cash on hand because poor doesn't mean you just don't pay your bills and eat out all the time instead.

I just ordered a figgy piggy pizza with fig spread and arugula and fresh burrata cheese and sun ripened tomato’s with that paper thin sliced Italian cheese and paper thin Italian prosciutto ham. It was delicious. I would order some tomato sauce next time on it, even though it’s has that fig spread, that would still taste good and tamp down the sweet fig spread some. I got it at Rotelo’s. It was expensive but I would rather have a decent pizza than a crappy one.
