Having lived in Italy as a foreigner for 8 years the last joke was funny but very far from my experience. 😂 I was a student and had to renew my residence permit every year bringing all my papers. The second time they issued a permit for work, not for studying. When I pointed it out to the officers they "played" surprised and said "do you really mind, what the permit is for?" I said I didn't want to do anything illegal. They said "Look, we saw from your papers you're really studying, you're doing good with your exams. Now the working permit is valid 5 years, which means you can finish university without coming here every year. Of course we can take it back and see you here next year and lose time over issuing a stupid paper which you'll obviously get for sure. Don't you want to save your and our time?" I kept the working permit. 😁

I like this one a lot. It not only brilliantly plays on stereotypes like the other immigration interview videos do, but has so many "ask question with an obvious stereotype answer, then completely turn the other way" references in there. It's always really rewarding that to get a joke, one must have an ever so tiny amount of background knowledge.

In case you are still wondering ^^ There is a saying that says "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" which means when in a certain country, one should adjust to the local customs. Sometimes the last part is omitted and people just say "When in Rome...". So it was kind of a word play there, they included the saying and then kind of made it literal. I hope this makes it a bit clearer ^^°

Foil looks almost as an Italian with a beach body like this. While studying Italian, I discovered a concept called 'traviamento' - taking the wrong path in life before you get back on the road and take the right one. It's funny how some languages capture something we all experience more precisely. Maybe that's because they ride on both sides of the road?..

@@aliya_punkenglish Good girl. I mean, the verb traviare and the adjective traviato/a, like the opera title, are common. It was just the noun I wasn't familiar with 😉 as for movies I have such a short attention span these days I cannot watch one from the beginning to the end. I'd rather read history books, especially about Ireland. I watch and rewatch FA&H sketches because they are obviously hilarious, but also because I love their accent. When I was an aupair there a century ago the dad was from Dublin and the mum from Tipperary and I remember when I started to say 'lovely' the way he did the mum looked at me and asked me to please stop. 26 years later I am still saying it that way 🤣

@@nicolasblume1046 No, € 50 (per car) is the fixed fare per car, luggage included 24/7. The Leonardo express train to Rome Termini costs € 14 per person, the slower FL1 train to Roma Trastevere and Roma Tiburtina € 8 per person. Then you have to reach your final destination. Awesome! I'm an English teacher from the Czech Republic. I use your videos in my classes and my students love them. I know Czechia isn't as popular as Italy, but I still hope that, one day, when you've covered all the popular countries, our time will come. Possible jokes: stag parties in Prague, socks in sandals, beer, stealing, refusing euro (banknotes with angry-looking dead people instead), former president stole a pen on camera in Chile, the city of Český Krumlov crowded with Chinese tourists, national anthem sounds homeless "🎵 Where is my home? Where is my home? 🎵", often confused with Chechnya, not Czechoslovakia since 1993 but nobody's noticed, natives make foreigners pronounce Ř and laugh at them when they fail. De ekccent vould be similar to de RRussian ekcent, I fink, d and f instead of th, e instead of a (Apple, cAt), -ink instead of -ing.

If you want to speak with an accent, try to focus on a different part of your mouth while speaking. I've found my German accent by focussing on my front theeth and the tip of my tongue. My French accent is somewhere close to my molars. It sounds weird saying it like that, but it works! (at least if you know what the accent is supposed to sound like :P)

Actually was talking to my dad about it and he went to check who else was performing on his phone, "Oh Tommy Tiernan is headlining, no surprise there..." and I waited until he got to the part where it said you guys were headlining on the very same stage. He went "oh and the lads are headlining on the Saturday and Sunday, very good!" He looked up to see me absolutely beaming with pride and I went "of course they are, why wouldn't they be!". You guys are amazing. I loved the mom jokes! So accurate. I bet those moms would not even laugh hearing you though, as their (veeery deep) attachment to their sons is something completely normal to them. The driving joke was on point: especially in some places in the south, there is a lot of anarchy in the streets (as my Neapolitan dad would say). I also died when you mentioned the Vatican. Thank you for that. Personally, I could not relate much to the last one on bribes. Never heard of normal citizens or even a family member getting over state bureaucracy with bribes, and even if it surely might happen somewhere, it is far from being a systemic issue worthy of a cliche joke. Whenever we where dealing with bureaucratic problems, the solutions would come either by a long exchange of letters or the involvement of lawyers. And of course connections that would help sort things out are a big thing. I'm from Rome but I'm sure others can relate to my point. But surely there is the mafia issue and high end politicians are really corrupted, so I can see how you got that impression.

Italian driving on both sides of the road... even worst than that. Took a cab from Leonardo da Vinci airport. I was seating in the front, my sons at the back. The cab driver got on the highway through the EXIT. I saw the cars coming toward us from all the lanes at full speed. The cab driver swerves the steering wheel, the car went throught the grass in the middle of the highway until we got to the other half of the highway and he just inserted himself between all other speeding cars going in the right direction. Did not even have time to scream. Just told my sons: well, we are still alive. I am not making it up. It is TRUE!

Another great sketch, congratulations from an italian. One thing I didn't "like" was the 50 euros in the end, well, corruption is everywhere, not only in Italy, maybe, a different ending, as south part italian, could have been something like: "well... we are the sons of Mark, son of Maria and Joseph, nephew of John, who worked as shoemaker in St. Matthew street..." and the interviewer: "Oh really? the brother of my granddad, Luca, went there for buying tomatoes!" Boom! Ok, not so funny... Introducing our family relationship and what they do is a form to find connection/bond with who is in front of us, but I'm sure we have same behaviour in countries where family relationships are stronger and more important, this is why we never let our parents home... oops... ^__^ Great work as usual, especially the italian accent! ;)
