Thanks for watching guys! We noticed that we should have talked about what month it was in this videos as it would be quite late to sail up to Alaska now. This was filmed in the middle of June and in the next episode we talk about the date when we set off! The videos are not in real time since it takes quite a lot of time to film, then edit and then finding internet to upload them. If you want to follow us in real time as well, join us on Facebook and Instagram where we post real time updates! You can also track our position with our Spot. You find the link in the description! Cheers, Malin and Johan

If that’s a Forespar vented loop, they are actually a lot tougher than they look. They’re made out of Marelon, a glass-reinforced nylon. Not likely to break. However, the valve inside can clog and should be inspected regularly.

Kodiak things to see: I’m sure its has changed since 1982 but there is ice in winter, there are as many bars as churches (why so many churches?) boats boats boats, seaplanes, Eskimos. There used to be a grounded passenger ship a couple miles out of town used for apartments that had a great ballroom and some good musical acts. Some real cool people. And an airport.

You can use rtv silicone on joints up to 650 Fahrenheit above that you can use millpack sealant. It hardens as heat is applied. As for you waterpump ,those are weeping holes. They leak to give you indication that the seals are failing. So before the seal between pump and engine fails, it weeps beforehand to give indication that it should be changed, Arek

My apologies if you know this already, just trying to help. I saw that you used a syringe to top off distilled water in your batteries. There is a container you can buy at US auto parts stores like NAPA, Autozone, O’Reillys, etc, specifically for topping off distilled water in batteries. They’re usually black plastic with a spring loaded spout and look like a pitcher. Only a few dollars, fill with distilled water and store till needed. Lets you fill the battery correctly, quickly, easily and with no mess.

Hey guys, another great video! You are right on target with the importance of the vented loop. I have unfortunately had some vent clogging problems due to salt buildup with the black plastic one that you are installing. If you keep it, be sure to wash the little valve out with fresh water from time to time. None are perfect but so far the bronze Groco vented loops have been good to me and my customers from a clogging standpoint. As you stated, the bypass method which eliminates the valve is a good way to go gives a visual confirmation of water flow and also keeps the water outside of the boat. Don't be tempted however to put the discharge water into the sink or any interior part of the boat because if you should loose cooling water, you now have exhaust in the boat. You will even get some exhaust bubbles even if there is good water flow. So just direct the water into a cockpit drain or over the side somewhere and all is good. Best of luck to you on your sail to Alaska! Jim and Joann, SV Sueno.

Johan, don't forget to check the exhaust of the diesel heater often. I got a corroded stainless steel exhaust hose and all the exhaust in the boat. It was very dangerous because of the carbonmonoxide and carbondioxide. Good idea to use a hose on the vacuum valve. I made the same after the original Volvo valve didn't work proper. so long Tom

My engine got flooded just because of the hose I had set on the hole of the goose neck... the whole thing is in a locker similar to yours, where I store all the ropes, sheets, etc.- It happened that one coiled rope I had put there squeezed the hose not letting the air to come in! It costed me a lot of money.... after that I took off the hose and let the hole free. Nothing happened since then.

So now if you were cooking somehow with diesel. An oven would be easy, stovetop not sure. I noticed some sort of portable brake (break) for bending the metal ? I think I would want an alarm for under the engine for any type of fluid. Very important. I use an organic type of soymilk. They make a vanilla and a mocha coffee and its delicious. Winco foods for 1.25 ! Kikkoman Pearl organic Soymilk Coffee or Vanilla. Unfortunately the closest store to where your going is Bellingham Washington. But maybe its available in a larger store in Hawaii.

If you have time a trip to Dillingham airfield for a glider ride is fun. Good Luck and thanks again for sharing your adventure! Oh I almost forgot.
