Steinhart's attempt was way too big in size. I had it for a very short while and the size of it really didn't work, and it had that 'running out of ink' color problem that steinhart watches seems to suffer from. I would much rather have an alpha homage than Steinhart's version of the daytona.

I’m enjoying My Steinhart reverse panda with the Dubois Depraz module and eta 2892 Top movement…I love the faded ink they use and love the thickness of it…getting the white panda next week at Gnomon

I own 248 of 500 of the same watch. Bought it in the 2000-2003 time frame. I don't wear it that often but when I do I get a lot of positive comments

i learned about these watches around 2005 and ended up buying one of each stainless steel version over the following 10 years...i was lucky to pay between 800 usd and 1200 usd across all 3 ...i love these watches and wore the first daily on offshore drill ships for 10 years...the next one i have worn as my office watch these past 5 years...and the last is still brand new in box ...

“I like watches in general” well said Cam! I couldn’t agree more, I have 4,5 and 6 digit Daytona’s and also bought a couple alpha Paul Newman’s 😋 just for the fun of it! Funny thing is there’s three sides to the “homage watch” on one side you have the haters, in the middle you have the guys that just enjoy the watch for what it is and on the other side you have the guys that go out of their way to tell you it’s better than the real thing Lol. I have a Rolex Submariner ceramic, a Pepsi ceramic and bought the Alpha 'Daytona' as the real thing is unobtainable for me. I love the Alpha, it gets loads of compliments and its actually a solid watch with great time keeping.

I've got an alpha watches homage to the 6263 and I love it. 39mm, manual wind column wheel chronograph, drilled lugs, gingly gangly oyster bracelet. People forget that the daytona back in the day was really not that special at all, it's only in the last 30 years that it's become collectable and been associated with luxury. Chances are if you see someone wearing a alpha daytona or a gevril then they are an enthusiast. Chances are if you see someone wearing a rolex Daytona then they have money and that's about it.

Its funny how this daytona homage is so loved, its not a homage, its identical, the parts can be swapped from this on a genuine daytona.Ginault on the other hand meets a shitstorm

ehhh i dont think that the parts are direct replacements and if so they would stand out like a sore thumb because the main differentiation between the homage watches and the real deals in any situation is that the quality of the real deal always grossly surpasses the homage watches. That being said these are great little watches that in my opinion due to teh automatic movement and some other features stand in their own category

Nothing wrong with a homage. It's not like they're stealing customers from bigger brands. It's just a way to enjoy a similar watch if you can't get the original. The keyword being "can't" cause if you could get a Paul Newman, milsub, etc, then you prob would.

I don’t understand purists and Rolex fan boys (usually guys that can’t afford a Rolex) give Steinhart Mil-Sub so much crap (which the Mil Sub is a much rarer Rolex than a Daytona). Yet give this Daytona homage a pass? It’s very hypocritical. At the time in the late 90’s Rolex Daytona’s Paul Newman/4 digit ref Daytona’s were selling between $7k - $15k at the most. Still I would say great homage and probably a better watch mechanically. It gets a pass from me, even a Steinhart is ok. I wouldn’t buy one but I won’t crap on anyone’s choice in a timepiece. After all it’s just a watch nothing more than a tool to tell time.
