My cousin Jeff Degenhardt worked at Raven software for 15 years as one of the leads on the art team. He worked on all the cod games “multiplayer maps”, X-men legends, ultimate alliance, Wolverine, wolfenstein 2009, singularity, etc. Now works for Hangar13 “Mafia series”. I’m gonna share this video with him mate 👌. He’s going to love this.

The OG Captain Price, back when he was John Mullins
@Sholvacri
@Sholvacri 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've always said that to my friends but they look at me funny (as most haven't even played SOF anyway, lol). Price's totally based on good old John's appearance, which was based on a real person too, he was actually that person. Fun thing is in multiplayer the John Mullins skin was used mostly by new players who didn't know how to switch, or really good players who wanted to take the piss and make other players angry and wonder "who is it, omg how's he so good?" , hah yeah, good times.

Theres a guy who does really good videos on the topic if you look up gore reviews on KZbin and he goes into depth on what these games did right and the few modern games that do as good of a job, like red dead 2

Soldier of Fortune 1 is hands down the best of the series! I remember that after Half-Life and after Rainbow Six, I felt like games were heading into two directions: story-rich shooters with puzzle elements (Half-Life) or tactical shooters (Rainbow Six) but Soldier of Fortune was a fast-paced run-and-gun, basically Doom with terrorists! Soldier of Fortune 1 is the R rated action movie Soldier of Fortune 2 is the more serious "Tom Clancy" thriller, which is not bad, but not as good as 1 Soldier of Fortune 3 is the terrible direct to video "Asylum-esque" rip-off, lol

After watching this video i learned that : I am a chad gamer and a true FPS fan cuz not only have i played SOF but Quake 2 and that star wars jedi outcast game as well. Loved them too. Also i think theres no better heavy machine gun any game since SOF. It looks awesome, it sounds crazy fucking good, the damage is great and it fires a phosphorous grenade as secondary fire! And Oh Gman not to overstep my boundaries here or smthin but the enemies exploding wen u shoot them with a microwave gun doesn't hapn at random but happens wen u use the secondary fire on that weapon. It fires a ball of plasma that comically inflates the enemies up and then gibs them. Video was fucking entertaining as always. Keep up the good work.

Still feels more brutal and violent than any modern shooter out there, where any brutality against another human being you can see is limited to some mild cutscenes. I don't get this comparison to puppies fighting, considering how super-tame games are nowadays. All gory games are limited usually to demons or zombies. Some won't even give you any wound decals not to mention a full model of an exit wound or a functional dismemberment. Soldier of Fortune 2 has it all nailed! Current games look like kittens in comparison.

@John Chaser RDR2 and TLoU2 has some weaksauce animations tbh. RDR2 has nothing on this game, The Last Straight one of US 2 was the least inspired 20fps slideshow I've had the displeasure of viewing in a long while.
@EvilScrooge
@EvilScrooge 4 жыл бұрын
@John Chaser Those are hardly First person Shooters But ignoring that, can you shoot the bits off of people? Can they react to pain? All the gameplays seem very weak and lack of squirting blood. Maybe some executions feel nasty (in concussion kinda way), but those are mostly just people getting punched. And I do count only violence caused by player to others, outside any cutscenes or finishing animations (to avoid counting in MK). all I can spot is just red decal where someone got shot. Characters in modern games don't react to being shot until they just die. kinda anticlimactic if you ask me. I'm yet to play Red Dead 2 myself so I don't know much outside of what I could quickly find.

@John Chaser Sounds cool! Though I doubt they react to being mortally wounded by grasping for their guts or their stumps after loosing a limb. Rockstar does not do creepy dying in agony thing. Still, I need to investigate this game. I have never heard of that game having a good dismemberment system. I know Shadow Warrior 2 had a detailed procedural gore system but that one felt like cutting a paper doll full of red water. Was hardly violent that one. Violence is a complicated thing...

Most all don't play the single player but the MP, there are mappers who are still releasing maps for SoF. Basically, you'll need the Platinum version which is the original plus Gold Patch and Platinum patch and then SoFPlus Client that allows you to see and join servers or run servers with the Server version There is a patch for GoG version and a patch for the none GoG version at: sof1.megalag.org/ Map packs and more info at www.sof1.org/ The community edition has platinum and SoFPlus. I am currently running 4 servers, not many people right now and we all were hoping to get more. A month or so ago we had many games every day. Some new and old players are supposed to get ON on Aug 28th. THe MP speed and feel I like better than SoF2 and even RTCW.

Hey guys, just a little FYI; If you are planning to play the Dreamcast version, make sure you play it from a GDEMU. As it DRASTICALLY cuts down on loading times! It brings it down from a 2.5 min load per levels to 10 seconds flat! MUCH BETTER! Also, it doesn't hurt to play on an overclocked Dreamcast as it makes some sections which have slight slowdown smooth like butter. Furthermore playing in 480P on VGA is recommended as well. It makes the game way better and how everybody should play it if on the Dreamcast.

This was fun when it came out. I miss the jumps/revolutions we got back there in systems and games. The changes were incredible. I loved this game. BEFORE THEY PATCHED IT. I can tell based on the minimizing of gore that you are playing the patched version or SOF GOLD. A small caliber handgun blew people’s brains out. Much more graphic than blowing their head entirely off. A shotgun blast exposed intestines and a Desert Eagle wound amputated body parts. The patch ruined the AI and also messed up amputations. I also find it interesting that this games main antagonist were a white supremacist Afrikaner group. Nowadays they try to make the antagonist completely benign. When a special forces soldier killed you they actually don’t want you to suffer because you make a lot of noise moaning and screaming. In real life they shoot you dead on the spot instead of letting you linger, suffer and warn other people that you’ve been killed.

I remember playing SoF2 when I was a kid... When they first introduce the OICW at the test range I somehow glitched it out to keep the gun. Then I fired the grenades into the briefing room, and yea all of those assholes giving you briefings between missions were fully modeled. The crazy part is that the game knew that the characters were dead so it didn't initiate their voice overs... So it was the funniest/most disturbing damn thing to see John having a conversation with a bunch of mangled bodies around a table.

I know you're probably sick of randos like me recommending games by now but please hear me out on this: There's a game called Roboquest, just hit early access on steam, and for the limited content it's got atm I think it's really decent and has the chance to be something excellent; it's a lot like gunfire reborn without the grindy out of run levelling and as I genuinely think your video on gunfire reborn helped make that game the success it is I feel that roboquest may also deserve that chance as an arguably somewhat rival to it. I bought it on a whim the other day because it looked fun and have just really enjoyed the gunplay of it and all that and I think you might too and I guess recommending it to go under your scrutiny is my way of seeing if I can help the devs out a bit, you could hate it so that coud backfire but....well just know I, some rando on the internet, think it might be worth a try :)

Man I remember living this game back in the day when I was a kid. I had a few games for PS2 but most I rented from the nearby Hollywood Video. We would ride our bikes like 3 miles to the Tanasbourne shopping center to look at games to rent. Didn’t cost that much. Tanasbourne is like a giant strip mall, with shopping islands and apartments interspersed for like a couple square miles. I remember renting this game for multiple weeks, playing something else for a few months and then heading back down to Tanasbourne with my friends to rent it again, and then get Jack in the Box and skate around there a bit. The 4 player on my PS2 was the key to the fun here. Similar to Time Splitters 1 and 2
