the fact you were able to get this through obs and input lag is beyond unthinkable, massive congrats! btw most of the time when dealing with older technology and region setups for games and whatnot it's usually a good idea to look towards speedrunning communities that play older games after decades of time figuring out best ways to capture/play at ease. what a good amount of people do in todays time is play things on a monitor when usually it's meant for a crt and composite cables. with different scalers that have basically 0 input lag such as the Rad2x, Retrotink, or the clone called Retroscaler2x that's a bit cheaper but still gets the job done. and some sort of 1080p capture card like the elgato for example with an hdmi output, there are plenty of videos explaining how to set them up. it's great for multi regions because it cuts out the need for some pal tv or crt that can be hard to find or costs way too much to ship.

I'm actually pretty familiar with all things retro from a channel named My Life in Gaming, the problem is that even the most basic retrotink model is like $100, often out of stock and even more on the second hand market as a result. Idk much about the alternatives but as with most things you get what you pay for, gambling on a cheaper lower quality device may introduce input lag or other side effects that make it not worth it, but again that's just speculation. Anyway, for people who want universal setups for retro gaming, that's a generally palatable admittance fee, but for those of us who need it for a single two mintue song it just isn't worth it at all, even just having to buy or setup Free McBoot is an annoying hassle for what you're doing it for. The cap card I picked up recently and am using is the GV-USB2 which as far as I could find is the best (especially price relative) analog card, and I found that through speedrunning circles from recommendations like Abney (MK64). It's definitely a quality device and this likely would've been a lot worse on a lesser device.

@@EvilApple567 I'm 100% with you on how costly it can be for upgraded setups for something that may not be worth it in your case for example, people have even resold them at stupid prices on ebay which really sucks for players who need reliable equipment for their hobbies. I went with the retroscaler2x on ebay for like $60 which is clone of the retrotink and haven't had any issues with it playing n64 and ps2 and looks decent with my elgato hd60. Now the wild thing about the gv-usb2 is that the audio on mine busted after 4 years and had to resort to vcr capture until I could replace it, then having the replacement break on me in the same way after barely a year with no solutions from others online as to why, and haven't been the only one. that's the main reason I had to upgrade to something that will hopefully last as long as possible, the gv-usb is a great capture card it's just the motherboards don't always cooperate in newer windows systems. Abney is a good dude and has been around for a while so his word I'd vouch for. You play older games quite a bit by the looks of it and was only speaking up on what may be helpful, playing through obs just hurt inside to read haha. I hope your capture card holds up, just don't sleep your pc with it plugged in or obs running. I found safely removing it after each sesh helped for a while before something went wrong and still not sure what.

5 actually, don't know what happened to the other one (might've just been in one of the other choke video files but didn't have time to sort all the way through them). Funny thing is I said in my first FC on emulator "I wonder if anyone's ever choked post solo on this song?". As heartbreaking as some of those were (still upset about the x12 first act) this grind wasn't even particularly close to the worst of the setlist, getting used to immeasurable disappointment that ruins your day is half the battle with many/most of these.

Gj getting that extra tick, as for the second act, is it possible for it to be moved to the first YO chord and maybe squeeze the first 2 or 3 GY chords at the back end? You can TAS it to check it but I bet with the nerves you get fcing the strumming it would be too much pressure
@EvilApple5672 ай бұрын
I wanted to try an adjusted 2nd act, but even on dead runs I didn't see too much potential with moving it back either 4 or even 5 chords just to get the full YB sustain in. I generally only TAS things I can theorize/find practical application for, and with the whammy for the solo being a complete shit show there's just not much to be gained from it in that regard even without the nerves and PAL engine jank.
@fjollesmoll2 ай бұрын
Great 1st, shitty song to squeeze for sure. I wonder if 800+ is possible with the ridiculous extra points from ehw on the 1st act + "perfect" whammy from solo. I have tried a few runs of this and I haven't been able to execute the ehw technique for the 1st act yet (Only managed to get x80 and x84).
@EvilApple5672 ай бұрын
Trying the YB on the 1st is one of the first things I did with this, but even with what I felt and reviewed to be good EHW front ends I struggled to even get the Y in. Seems weird charting/timing wise, but I just wasn't able to get anywhere with it and with the solo being a slot machine I couldn't imagine grinding a likely frame perfect EHW squeeze beforehand even if it is possible. Also wanted to try an adjusted 2nd act (after the 4th or at least 5th post solo chord) but even on dead runs I didn't see any real potential with it, especially factoring in nerves/EHW PAL jank.
@KyleHUNK2 ай бұрын
@@EvilApple567As a note you can’t even early whammy in the solo like slowhero has because the strumming is over the strum limit, so even if you start the strumming early at most you can start the whammy with 0% early whammy. Getting another note would definitely not be possible on an FC run
@EvilApple5672 ай бұрын
@@KyleHUNK On the slowhero path no, the idea was to adjust the act either 4 notes back ending on the YO of the last quint chord pattern, which is the same timing as the first three chords in the path act, or even moving it back 5 notes just to get the full YB sustain in with the same amount of notes. Also worth noting (not that I fully understand the mechanic) there should be a small amount of extra whammy you can milk from using the descending EHW fret trick on the blue sustain post solo, which is what lead to the first choke I had in clip 1.
@fjollesmoll2 ай бұрын
@@EvilApple567 Yeah the time signature makes it hard to adjust the activations. 1st act front end is in 3/4 and it ends in 9/4, so changes in front end has a 3x effect on the backend. Same thing with 2nd act, except its front end in 9/4 and it ends in 4/4. So activating a note later (0.5beats) on the 2nd act translates to 0.22 beats on the back end.

Correct me if I'm wrong as someone who has never had the patience to try this, but wouldn't going the 3rd gy after the solo to squeeze in the last yo be better, in my head it makes sense but there's probably some really simple explanation to why that wouldn't work lol

what did you use to force the game to run in PAL? Swapmagic? FreeMcBoot? I'm trying to do get PAL going also and not sure how to do it these days.
@sleeper_wave2 ай бұрын
Free McBoot would be the cheapest and most accessible option for someone in 2024 assuming your TV or monitor supports PAL output. I personally use SwapMagic though these days it’s a dated/expensive method.
@Trafffic10922 ай бұрын
@@sleeper_wave gotcha. If anything I'm glad Free Mcboot is an actual alternative. I've got a FMCB memory card and have used GSM to make my PS2 display at PAL50. Just wasn't sure if it was working because I was way more consistent at Beast & the Harlot solo D but still god awful at Trogdor... guess itll just take more practice lmao. Even on PAL this feels impossible.
@sleeper_wave2 ай бұрын
@@Trafffic1092 I’ve actually heard from others that Trogdor still feels difficult using Free McBoot however I can’t confirm that myself. Swap Magic feels amazing and from personal experience you can actually make Trogdor very consistent.

@@sleeper_wave before i spend money on SwapMagic (plus I need the slide tool because i still have my fat PS2 from 2001) i'm gonna try getting a PAL GH2 iso to see if that makes a difference.
@EvilApple5672 ай бұрын
Yeah, cheap FMCB from Amazon. As I said right after the run, I didn't even think about how I was going to display it due to the incompatibility of NTSC CRTs with PAL signals, and the only reason I was able to use it at all was due to my capture card but the experience is still pretty shit. I imagine the more reasonable alternatives aren't all that much better though, sure many HDTVs accept multi-region signals but they also generally have the same issues of harsh input lag and crummy analog visuals.
