Thank you Ghib-san for having us (me again)! 🙇🏻♀️✨🥰 It was a fun exchange and it's nice to learn from Japanese POV~🇯🇵 Of course, the things we said were mostly from our experiences (culture shock). Definitely not all Japanese guys are like what we mentioned and not all Singaporean girls think like us, thus it can be subjective. Although we may not have mentioned much, there's also many nice things about Japanese culture that we love too❣️🎌 I personally feel that being in any form of relationship (can be even friendship), takes 2 hands to clap so it's good to learn/understand from each other and also to accept each other's differences/mindset/background. P.S. I hope that we don't scare people with negative 🦁 image about SG girls, there's so many nice and friendly girls out there~ please give them chance ok🙏🏻🥹🙇🏻♀️ 🇸🇬

I think bringing your girlfriend or boyfriend to meet your family members just after 2 weeks of dating is not good. It kind of gives the wrong signals when u hardly know the character of the other party. U need to observe your partner for at least 6 months and get to know the character, personality etc more deeply before introducing to your parents. Parents will usually form their 1st initial impressions of the partner. It’s always good to be frank & sincere and to voice up gently instead of keeping things bottle up as once the volcano blows up it’s too scary and too late. Do remember that during dating period, both parties usually put forward their best aspect forward. U need to see beyond that before confirming is he /she the right person for u and your family. Marriage is not just 2 persons getting together, it’s also bringing both parties’ families into a in-law relationship. Surely u want both sides to bless the couple and both in-law families to be harmonious.

Wah, I really like this video. I don't agree that Singaporeans showing their private lives openly on social media. Some of us are rather private and reserved by nature. Perhaps I'm old school but meeting with parents should be done when the relationship's in a stable phase. All in all, it depends from each individual. Ghib, maybe do a video with parents of Japanese+Singaporean couples on their views of their children's partners?
@estellawong365 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the Japanese culture of keeping privacy and not allowing social media posts of photos in a relationship too frequently. That's because of the issues of scammers and abuse of photos under certain disgusting traits evil people will endorse in.

Love to see Ghib-san getting grilled by 3 Singaporean ladies lol! It's all about cultural differences, mindset and preferences. Some people like it slow, some like it quick. Some like to maintain the halal gap some likes it touchy, you just need to find the right partner that could cater to your needs. A little differences is alright as long you're happy with your partner. Thank you for this insightful video coming from a Singaporean man haha!

Such a fun way to open the video 😂😂 Speaking as a female though, I prefer to live life simply (not all girls are this scary 🤣). I've been trying to understand some Japanese culture and mindsets (for travel purpose) through other KZbinrs so I guess the behaviours are understandable i.e. how privacy is valued and how they're not really exposed to foreign cultures (so they are really unaware as a result). If anyone is really looking to date a Japanese, it's best to learn the culture first before jumping in 😁

It's definitely not common to meet gf's family after dating for only 2 weeks. Your friend was right to reject the girl's invitation and it's not really a cultural thing, more like a common sense sensible thing. But of course there's a correct way to turn down the invitation isntead of outright no.
@audreychoong7323 Жыл бұрын
It is polite to eat with mouth closed , so that others sitting at the same table cannot see the food that you have chewed up in your mouth. Even in the Western world/ countries, they see people who eat with mouth closed are polite (eating manners).

Hi Ghib, i feel it’s not true that all japanese don’t show affection in public. But i feel it might be their personality or environment influencing their thinking. My husband is japanese and im Singaporean, i think he is traditional but he does say “love you” because i do say that to him. It’s just a type of way to express ❤. But there are many ways too. So i feel it is not entirely about nationality but personality too. Really enjoyed this topic. 👍

Hmmm..I think when it comes to dating we need to understand and respect each other’s differences especially if he is from a different country. He grew up with that kind of culture. When a guy really loves you, he will do everything for you without you demanding for it. He will adjust for you. You cannot force someone to change for you though.

I totally agree with Ghib-san. I am a Singaporean, I do not think it is appropriate to be touchy on the train. It is very distracting. It shows lack of consideration of people around them. This is no different from people who talk loudly on their mobile while on the train. I really enjoyed my train ride in Japan. I saw a few instances when people needed to talk on their mobile when the train was not crowded, they would move away from their seat to a corner and speak softly.

In regards to dining etiquette, I think many Singaporeans open their mouths unconsciously while eating, because we don't have very strict table manners. My wife, who is a Japanese, used to warn me from time to time, even though I didn't intentionally open my mouth while eating. It was quite frustrating. 😅(Intentional relationships/marriages take ALOT of commitment and understanding for it to work) Now that I'm attuned to Japanese rules and customs, I've also become quite sensitive to my family's table manners (opening mouth, chewing sounds, slurping sounds etc.) when I return to SG.

Interesting convo! But I don't agree that everything re your relationship needs to be on social media. Sometimes you want to keep your life private and you don't need to broadcast your situation to the world. Just live your life and be happy.

Girls, stop being so needy! Men in general are ‘cooler’ and would rather be less touchy freely. If you feel insecure going out with someone who likes a more dignified approach, find someone else. Otherwise, try to be a little empathetic as high expectations often lead to bigger disappointment. Life is too short, just enjoy the moment and not be in such a hurry! All fun and joy, words and appropriate actions are all important in any relationship and friendship. Respect cultural differences and enjoy them! ❤️

This is a fun exchange. In California - I did not meet my son's girlfriends parents for 3 years; between Covid, and me just being a bit shy (ok, very shy) and introverted. But mostly I did not think it was necessary to meet her parents for a long time until the relationship was more serious. I don't want to get in the way of their relationship by causing any kind of tension parent-to-parent. My son did show up at my house with his girlfriend after dating her for a month. I've grown to love her like a daughter over the three years I've known her. Her parents love my son too. Eventually we met and hit it off. But it can be awkward for the parents too, if the relationship is not solid yet. Give the parent thing some time. That being said, everyone is different. I feel like if it was my daughter, I want to know who she is dating right away. With a son I worry less.

I agree with Ghib-san that it is not just a Japanese thing to eat with mouth closed. It is same for Europeans and Americans. Also, it is not just Japanese men who spent a lot of time after office to go and drink with colleagues and business associates; the same with China people from major cities and Hong Kong people. It is a Singapore thing for men to go back home after work.

I understand some are even obliged to socialise on weekends playing golf with the boss. I hope Singapore doesn't change. Colleagues should socialise at lunchtime or the occasional work functions. After work, quality time should be spent with the spouse and children. It makes for stronger family bonds. Singaporeans need to have a good work-life balance.

Ha ha I only know slightly about Japanese people through my fav J-pop group MAX for close to 20+ years and my three years of working at a multinational Japanese firm in Singapore. Actually, keeping romantic behavior in check is overall an Asian thing and not just Japanese. Singaporeans are very much exposed to western vibe since young due to our English education and movies/TV that we watch so that our needs/thinking in many aspects are in line with the western way.

There are some of us who don't text alot, don't post our private/personal life issues in social media, likes to be hugged, engage in hand-holding, touches while out with significant other. Not sure if these two ladies are really fluent in Japanese, but surprised why they had no idea of typical Japanese behaviour and outlook in general, and fail to cater to that. I think they are more suited for local guys or ang moh guys. Overall, an interesting video :)
