A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

This is an amazing song and anime. Origa, unfortunately, died from lung cancer in 2015. She had a beautiful voice and sang the song in Russian, English, and Latin. All rolled into 1 song. A very overlooked, talented singer. I enjoyed the reaction and am glad that someone suggested it to you.

​@@chb2551 correct me if I'm wrong but a boy soprano sang the Latin part. You can even hear it closely the change in tone and pronunciation in the song. It is even stated in Origa's wiki page and the ghost in the shell fandom page. The boy's name is Ben Del Maestro. He sings the Latin and English parts and Origa sings the English and Russian parts. Origa did sing this song alone on stage, however she does not sing alone in the studio recording.

Yoko Kanno is the Japanese equivalent to John Wiliams in film music. She knows all the genres and uses them in her music brilliantly. Really worth checking out!

Yoko Kanno is the master of everything, writing from the catchiest idol pop to the most sweeping orchestral music of her generation. She's not very active these days, but her 2017 TV score "Naotora", while relatively restrained, might be her best: its main theme ("Amatora suite") is a wonderful 14 minutes 3-part suite with Paavo Järvi and Lang Lang---her love letter to music.

The track is written for the opening of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series (which has glorious OST). Visuals in the clip were from 1995 movie, which has pretty different tone (including musical). Making of a Cyborg is pretty legendary composition from the opening of 1995 movie.

Love the writings, animation, story and of course that soundtrack from that anime, better from the first original movie and later series if you ask me, imo.. RIP to Origa

My kids weren't interested as it's an old anime to them, and the nudity at the start was unexpected but it served a purpose. I fell asleep during parts of it as it was late at night. I may watch it again.

Now you must see the rendition of this incredible song by the vocal quartet Forestella. First Yoko Kanno and her company when they heard that they cover the song by their company on a show refused the diffusion. But She listening their rendition and changed her mind , impressed by them . Imagine this beautiful song sing by four men with soprano, barytone, tenor and bass voices.

this is my child hood in a video(the show is very violent but underneath it explores very complex topics and ideas) i can remember staying up late watching tonami on cartoon network and have my mind blown the animation style and the idea of how human we are in this future depending on how augmented we become and the intro to the show was something in the early 2000 was never something you could hear every day man thanks for the nostalgia.

Great reaction video! I love Yoko Kanno, and I love and miss Origa, may she rest in peace. However, if you want to hear this song you will have to watch GHOST IN THE SHELL: STANDALONE COMPLEX (2004). It will not be found in the original GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) movie. You will be surprised how good the movie and the series are.

the singer ("Origa", actual name: Olga Vitalevna Yakovleva) was very famous, but she died about 7 years ago, has a really beautiful and interesting opera voice/singing, as she's russian and japanese, so, quite unique and beautiful combination and you also got legendary yoko kanno involved too, so, the ost/music is really good ----------- Motoko Kusanagi is 100% cyborg (a 100% organic human is extremely rare in its futuristic setting/world, most "people" are either full cyborgs, or part machine part human), so, she only has her human organic brain, everything else is cyberized (machine/robot), along with a cyber-brain (which allows them to connect to the network/online and etc stuff), which is like connected to her organic brain or combined with it, meh, it's confusing, lol if you do watch this anime, you'll learn of motoko's past (2nd season), it's one of the best told backstories... especially, with what she became/grew into/up being, a total s'xy bad'ss, laughs ------------- GitS: SAC (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex): Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (1st season, ~ 30 episodes) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig (2nd season, ~ 30 episodes) IS the legendary anime series of the legendary Ghost in the Shell manga by legendary manga author ---------------- whereas, the: 1. the 'Ghost in the Shell' animated films/movies (there's a few of them, not sure how many remakes/versions they have done of it now... lol) 2A. Like Rastrelly said this was the opening song for the series,..the first time I heard it was the first time I watched the series, and that drop down bad ass base, comes in where as the opening credits and all, theres a scene that happens in an episode, where a giant Tachicoma( there are mini ones that can accommodate someone riding in them like you would a motorcycle, they have their own AI, but there are bigger ones, also can accommodate human passengers, drivers, and they're like a tank, but have an insect like design, like a spider), is walking down a path of stairs but really big area, this video, is from the movie, not the series, and there's a brief scene in this montage that shoes the character "Major",. with an arm missing, thats where she tore off the top of one of those giant Tachicoma tanks, badass movie, I couldn't believe it when I saw it,..I remember renting the VHS of Akira, had seen it years before, and the clerk at the video store suggested Ghost In The Schell,..blew me away, this just before the series started, I have been a fan of anime since Speed Racer,..keep going so much good music in these shows, check out music from Samurai Champloo, Nujabes is brilliant,.enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌

The more you listen to the song, the more it hits you. I should know. I've been listening to it for two decades since I first saw Ghost in the Shell. It's one of two songs that never fails to make all my arm hairs stand on end and tears bust out of my eyeballs, just because the musical power of it is so overwhelming. Yoko Kanno has composed a very large number of songs for game music, animation, commercial songs, TV programs and film music. She composes songs of all genres such as hip-hop, jazz, rock, classical, etc. with very high quality. She is also a good singer. Origa unfortunately passed away in 2015. Ghost in the Shell was made into a Hollywood movie in 2017 starring Scarlett Johanssen.

@@deanwolfechannel I haven’t seen the Hollywood version of the movie except for the trailers. I have heard many terrible reviews from animation fans about that movie. But I do know that animation fans have never had a good opinion of the live action version of the movie. The Matrix borrows many of its key aides from GITS. Like the biological plug outlet on the back of the neck and The falling green characters at the beginning of the film. By the way, do you know what those characters are about? There is different movies and series in the Ghost in the Shell universe. For me among the best sci-fi. Yoko Kanno worth a deeper análisis. If you like jazz the BSO of Cowboy Bebop is a good option.

Your point is correct. Ghost in the Shell was created under the strong influence of Blade Runner. Not only in terms of the visuals, but also in terms of the music.

Don’t feel bad about your “ghost in the machine “ mixup. Ghost in the machine was a common saying for “ghost in the shell” before ghost in the shell became a saying. They both come from “do androids dream of electric sheep” which is what the entire cyberpunk genre is based off of. So everything from blade runner to ghost in the shell to the matrix can trace its roots to that single piece of literary work . Highly recommend

You should try Macross Plus OST, also by Yoko Kanno. And you have Cowboy Bebop OST too. And for Ghost in the Shell, try the original movie OST, composed by Kenji Kawaii (Yoko Kanno composed the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex TV series).
