I managed to play the grove in the same exact way you played it Scott. But to me, it took like a lot of effort, whereas you look like so calm and happy while you play it! :-) Thanks for the great video

Thanks for your videos. I am primarily a guitarist (studied classical and Flamenco while in college), however, my bass playing is, well, like a guitarist playing bass. Even those these are basic for me, as for as left-hand fingering, they help me to feel the groove you “natural bass players” feel. I know some will say that Flamenco is rhythmic, too, but it is different than the way bass players fill in gaps. Bass players are much more percussive, in my opinion.

Hi Scott. Love all your videos. I wonder if you could help with something. I'm looking for ways to replicate percussion noises on the electric bass (to use with a loop station, for example.) There are various ways to get sounds that mimic a drum kit on acoustic guitar, but I've never seen anything with a bass. How would you go about getting the basics (kick, snare, high-hat) on an electric four-string?

I can help with that, if you palm mute the E string and slap you can get a kick drum effect. If you use one finger like an alternating pic on a muted or ghost note on the G string you can get a snare like effect. Hope I helped

He's playing in 4/4 time, only 4 beats in a measure, and the groove is 2 measures long. Every new measure you start counting at 1 again, so you just keep saying 1, 2, 3, 4 | 1, 2, 3, 4. This is how it would appear on sheet music.
